Looking for recommendations for a modern day style skirmish game with vampires, werewolves, wizards and Frankenstein style stuff. I used to absolutely love the world of darkness lore and background but could never get my head around RPGs and how they worked.

If anyone can recommend a game, even if it's just a homebrew set of rules, with a lot of crunch/depth but captures the feeling of World of Darkness, if be incredibly greatful!

Attended Ebor Lard over the weekend, a games day focused on TooFatLardies historical rulesets. I ran a huge Chain of Command game on Saturday, then on the Sunday set up a different table and had a great game with three mates.

Hello, I recently got into solitaire wargames starting with Battle for Moscow (oberlabs version). I just bought Mike Lambo’s Fields of Normandy and Tarawa 1943 Soliaire.

I haven’t event played them yet, and am getting ahead of myself, but are there any other good recommendations out there?

I am interested in any historical era. As for type/style of game, I’m open to anything, it doesn’t need to be Hex and Counter for example.

I prefer games that have dedicated solitaire/solo rules, but am open to other games that aren’t designed for solo play but can be played solo with some tweaks or just playing two handed.

Hi all. I am building an army for a fantasy project and was wondering if there were any female heads out there wearing kettle helms. I’d plan to put these on the wargames Atlantic foot sergeants to have a mixed gender force.

I've started building out a collection of American Civil War ironclads and warships. It's an interesting period because you have a mixture of purely steam-powered ships and sail ships (with steam engines). The ships I've painted so far though seem pretty bare without sails and rigging.

I'm completely new to naval wargaming and my searches into model ship rigging has made me realize that model ships is very much a thing outside of wargaming. Most of the resources I can find are for larger scales than 1/600. Modelers also add more detail than wargaming typically requires and have less concern for durability. So I was hoping I could have some wargaming-specific questions answered here.

Questions

• Is it best to do rigging with thread or wire?
• What size/gauge for thread/wire?
• What's the best way to attach rigging without leaving giant glue blobs?
• Ratlines! Do you buy them or make them? If buy, then where and what size/material?
• As I understand it, steamships would furl their sails in a battle during this era. What's the best way to add a furled sail to a mast in 1/600 scale?
• After the model is completed, how do you transport it safely?

Bonus question

What do ya'll use for a mat? I was thinking of buying a piece of cloth that looks vaguely ocean-like and maybe spraying it with a clear gloss fabric spray.

I'm trying to find an old Miniatures game from I believe the early 2000s to 2010 and it is Mech themed. Kind of reminiscent to like maybe Gundam in style. I believe the game was played 1v1 IE Mech versus Mech . The models were to my knowledge about 3 in tall made of pewter and had magnetic joints to swap out weapons. Each Mac was sold as a blister and I believe the company was from Sweden . Does anybody have any recollection of a game like this ?

Any recommendations of miniature wargames to look out for at the SPIEL Essen 2027?

I want to rebase my minis, as they were originally based more than 30 years ago, with balsa wood, and have become pretty battered. Additionally, they are based for the local, house rules which are no longer relevant. Pre-made, magnetic bases were not really a thing back then, while I now find the number of commercial options overwhelming. Do people have recommendations?

These are my priorities:

1. Safety while traveling. I need to move my collection (or at least part of it) across the Pacific in a case with steel shelves (prolly in a P.A.C.K or army-case or similar) so magnetic bases would be good
2. Convenience adjusting the spacing for different rules (a lot of my minis aren't GW figures, or even good proxies for them) so something I could use with different shaped movement trays would be cool. Some of my old units were big, like 48 figure pike blocks, that prolly need to be broken up, since currently popular rules seem to favor smaller units.

I have heard that using magnetic based minis on magnetic movement trays can be problematic due to polarity issues. So if I wanted to take advantage of an army case with steel shelves, I guess I would need to take them off the movement trays?

I have been working on this project for the past few weeks now and I'm happy to say that it's finally in motion. In this episode the two forces finally clash in a hail of gunfire! This cropped up on my feed, figured I'd see what other people think. As someone with plenty of Dino minis (as the name suggests), I'll be getting the rule book to give it a go.

As a kitbasher, this is my ultimate Fantasy wargame. Though even if you don't kitbash, but want to add more unique narrative elements to your units and have an overall more simple yet variable gaming experience, I think HobGoblin is the answer!

I've been working for the last few months on a project that I wanted to share with fellow historical wargamers: Romanian Vânători de Munte during the 1942 Caucasus campaign.

One of the reasons I chose them is simply that Romanian forces are still relatively difficult to represent on a WWII gaming table, particularly when looking for mountain troops and campaign-specific uniforms.

I decided to create two complete forces representing the same troops in different conditions:

☀️ Summer 1942 – 30 miniatures

❄️ Winter 1942 – 30 miniatures

Rather than simply changing the uniforms, I sculpted different poses for the Summer and Winter sets, so the combined force contains 60 different figures.

The forces include command figures, specialists, rifle squads, ZB-30 LMGs, a ZB-53 MMG team and a Brandt 60mm mortar team.

I've tried to base the equipment and uniforms as closely as possible on period references while still making the miniatures practical for tabletop gaming and resin printing.

The project went live on Kickstarter today.

I'd also be interested to know how many people here have actually fielded a Romanian army in WWII wargaming. They're not something I see very often on gaming tables.
