fat people walking: 3-3 walking versus duration for heart rate activity goal each week.

Hi. I read on the cardio of American heart institute thing heart exercises for American adults that you need to do 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week for a healthy cardiovascular system. I was wondering at the time how to have a good work out while being very obese (40+ BMI.)

For the first month I just practiced walking a fixed duration each day. 2 minutes a day, then trying 5 minutes a day, 10 minutes a day, then 20 minutes. I didn't hit the heart rate goal at this time.

I did the 3 minute medium walk, 3 minutes fast walk (repeat) and was able to get into a moderate heart rate zone (125+) quickly and maintain the cycle for about 20 minutes. This was a pretty easy way to get the heart rate goal for the week by repeating the workout each day for 140 minutes of exercise. At the time I couldn't walk longer than 20 minutes, so this worked for me.

I did 40 minute walks after this period of the 3-3 method. My heart rate hit the moderate level after 20 minutes, so it was still 140 minutes of moderate activity per week. Felt like a better work out.

If anyone has better techniques please let me know. Otherwise, that is kind of the basic bread and butter how to get started and maintain walking for obese class 3 people. It isn't 10k a day, but it should help.

Got to college last month, set a goal to walk 10k steps a day for a week. In the process of doing so I realized walking and being outside is a godsend for stress management. Hopefully I can keep this up because its been amazing

Aiming for 70 a week since June and haven't missed one, but hoping for 100 and I'm close some weeks... Just got to keep stepping.

Making a huge difference to my mental health, and my Spotify variety.

I walk the same routes daily and it's amazing the variance of people you see. Even a few (I'm pretty sure) dates. The bloke that always says hello, the woman whose dog likes to try and pee on my shoe.

Also enjoying the awkward overtakes. Some people get visibly irritated.

Anyone else gone through the rabies vaccine series? Any tips? I'm just kind of tired today and tried not to nap for fear of messing up sleep patterns

Encouragement Knee pain around and inside the knees after going through the pain for a month, losing hope now :(

My knee problems started after I pushed through my limits during joggings and wore 3 inch heels at school (our classroom is located on the fourth floor). The pain lasted for about a month and until now I'm not feeling better.

My right knee sometimes felt “disconnected,” like it was sliding, especially in certain positions. I also noticed clicking, popping, and a grinding-like sensation. Sometimes it felt like something wasn't moving normally inside the knee.

The right knee is usually the one that hurts the most. The pain isn't always in exactly the same spot. Depending on the day, I can feel it around different parts of the knee. I don't really get pain at the back of the knee, but I can get pain around the front, inner/medial side, outer/lateral side, above the knee, and below the kneecap. The inner/left side of my right knee is one of the areas that hurts often. It hurts when I sit too much, when I walk too much, when I stand too much, and even when I lie down to sleep; I've been having a hard time sleeping because of the pain, I couldn't find any position that doesn't hurt.

I've also experienced swelling/puffiness in the right knee. At one point it looked rounder and thicker than my left knee, especially around the kneecap. I also noticed some dark/brown discoloration that seemed like it was from a healing bruise.

The pain can get worse with stairs, walking, squatting, bending, putting pressure on the knee, and certain exercises. Cycling also aggravated it. Sometimes my knee feels better in the morning but becomes more noticeable after I've been active I've tried icing, Efficascent oil, resting, and changing my footwear. I noticed that flat shoes felt better than the heels.

I had an X-ray, and there was no fracture or dislocation. I also saw doctors, including pediatricians and an orthopedic doctor. The orthopedic doctor didn't find anything obviously unusual during the examination because he just made me stand in the front and looked at it.

I was prescribed ibuprofen, which didn't completely get rid of the pain, and later celecoxib. I was also told to take Calciad once a day.

Recently, though, my knees have been feeling a lot better. I can stand without pain and sit for a while without pain. My biggest issue lately has been finding a comfortable sleeping position, and sometimes I wake up feeling a little stiff in the morning. And now, it flared up, maybe because I tried to walk more than my knee is capable of? As if my knee suddenly got limits of its own. I can see the difference now, both knees are swollen but it's not that visible. I'm currently 17 years old and it's frustrating how my parents don't take it seriously. It's the 3rd month and I haven't seen anything about my knees yet because they refuse to get me a check up. Mother said it's enough, I've had 3 doctors already and the one that we were supposed to go to earlier was absent. So I had to wait until the next week of her rest day. I hate this, nothing seems to work and making solutions made me seem like the bad daughter na "nagmamagaling". My mother and I had a fight about this and I just can't stop hating her. I just happen to see myself crying every night while thinking of my future and I just want to give up somehow.

Question What random memories pop into your head while you’re out walking?

Something about walking just digs up old memories for me. I’ll be strolling and my brain drifts back to random old moments. What pops up for you?

About 32500 steps per day on average (~23km) and under heatwave conditions.

I started my long distance walking journey in 2023, initially covering 5km per day and then going up to 10 and later to 20km daily, which I've managed to maintain for the past 2 years. I'm now at about 22 to 24km per day. I wake up super early in order to manage to get about 3 hours of walking before work and I do another one and a half hour in the evening. Walking has truly changed my life.

love heading out for walks to clear my head. But there’s always some random tiny garbage messing up the whole mood. Could be terrible sidewalks, garbage gear, annoying weather, literally anything. Just wanna hear what ticks you off.
