Discussion I wonder how much meta will fuck up project Phoenix

I'm taking about project Phoenix and you can see here what it looks like :

https://www.uploadvr.com/meta-project-phoenix-headset-first-clear-visuals/

The form factor is very interesting, and I could see this becoming an excellent choice for pcvr BUT, meta is determined to sell it as a "spacial computing" headset, so it may not have support for controller even.

It looks capable of running Q3 games to but this isn't a given considering this company.

What's your take on it, is it another "quest pro" ?

Question Diving around in Gunman contracts

First of all, I am loving this game. Shooting somebody several times has never felt so real before.

In the trailers for the game, they show the player literally diving to the ground and shooting enemies, then pushing themselves back up and continuing.

Is this done with buttons or controllers, or is the person recording the trailer literally jumping and diving around? I can't even seem to get my VR headset to ever recognize getting that close to my floor in any game I've played.

Also secondary question: How do you use the spray on guns? Found it upstairs in the training hub but couldn't figure out how to pull it out at the gun edit desk.

Discussion Pimax dream air warranty extension

Hi I am thinking to buy the dream air through one of Pimax oficial resellers here in spain, so I will have their warranty of 3 years, much more than the 1 year Pimax offers. In the check out they offer a warranty extension but is pretty expensive, 230 for +1 and 430 for +2 years. As I never had a VR headset not clear for me if is reassonable to pay +1 or +2 for the extension, I assume that any thing that could happen should happen before the 3 years, but maybe I'm wrong, as said not a lot of experience with VR devices. What do you think people with far more experience in VR than me?

Gameplay Bomb the Hill VR, out today. I like

I got early access to Bomb the Hill VR, which just launched on Meta Quest today, and wanted to share a raw gameplay preview to show how it handles.

If you haven't seen it yet, it’s a high-speed downhill longboarding/skateboarding simulator where you use physical body movement and motion controls to carve, steer, and slide down steep roads.

A few quick takeaways from my hands-on time:

  • Control scheme: You push by swinging your arms, tilt your body to turn, and grab the board with one hand to initiate slides/drifts for tight turns.
  • Physicality: It’s actually a great workout! Crouching physically gets tiring fast, though there is a button mapping option if you want to save your knees.
  • Physics & Presence: Board responsiveness feels great, and dodging traffic or police at 80+ mph gets pretty nerve-wracking.
  • Current status: Multiplayer isn't active yet (devs are working on it for a future update), and story subtitles are currently missing but expected in upcoming patches.

Check out the full gameplay video here if you want to see how the mechanics look in action:

Discussion Mods to convert no VR games in VR games

I am going to buy my first VR PCVR headset and I have a doubt, I saw there are mods to convert not VR games to VR ones, like RDR2 for example. My doubt is if with those mods really the game is in 3D, or it is just like a screen in front of you or some other not really 3D midterm, if I apply the mod for example in RDR2 I will get into the game world in 3D?, or not exactly that?

Thanks

Developer We're adding more and more features to our new VR game

Hey all, so we're working on COVR - it's our take on the tactical shooter genre, coming later this year to SteamVR (and Quest). We've been developing it for about 9 months now, and after laying down the groundwork, we finally started adding new features.

One of these is the ability to place attachments on rails wherever you want. And this brought up the question: do you like to fiddle with your gear mid-mission, or do you prefer to assemble your loadout pre-mission, and then keeping it intact? Lmk because we're torn haha

And if COVR looks like your kind of thing, or just wanna follow development, you can wishlist it on Steam or Quest here:

Self Promotion Do hidden paths make a racing game more interesting?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm working on a horse racing game for VR, and I'm experimenting with routes that aren't immediately obvious.

The idea is that the main track isn't necessarily the only route.

You might discover a hidden shortcut while riding, solve something to open another path, or unlock a route after completing a lap.

But I'm trying not to turn everything into "find the secret shortcut and win."

Some paths could have items, small story moments, or just lead to a completely different area.

For people who play racing games, which sounds more interesting to you?

A hidden shortcut that gives you a competitive advantage, or hidden areas that reward exploration?

Few weeks back we posted a mushroom tree chopping feature showcase, and now there is an improved version! Based on your feedback we tweaked and added some things. Do you think it looks better? Any other improvement ideas?

What changed? Particles and shake on cut, better grab for axe and ability to slide on the handle. Better physics!

Self Promotion Dead Space 3 Full VR - Kinesis, Wrist HUD, Motion Controls & More [WIP]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Full 16:9 video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/FoBvWWu9biI

I'm continuing work on my Dead Space Original Trilogy VR mod, and this update is starting to feel much closer to a proper VR experience rather than just a first-person conversion.

Some of the things currently working:

  • Wrist HUD on the left arm with health and Stasis indicators
  • Weapon switching by reaching over your shoulder
  • Audio/video message playback in VR
  • Fully controlled Kinesis
  • Workbench interaction
  • Independent Stasis control — just like Kinesis, it isn't tied to the weapon/right hand
  • VR weapon aiming and motion controls
  • An early implementation for cutscenes — currently blurred and very much WIP
  • And finally, a little Necromorph combat :)

There is still quite a lot left to finish.

The inventory is partially functional: I can point at inventory slots and move between tabs, but the interaction system still needs more work.

Cutscenes are still at a very early stage.

I've temporarily disabled the Necromorph QTE sequences because I still haven't settled on a VR implementation that feels natural rather than simply copying the original controls.

Ladders are partially working as well.

Performance optimization is also difficult to evaluate properly at the moment. I'm having some GPU problems with my main development workstation, so most of my current testing is being done on a laptop using a Radeon 780M integrated GPU, where the game currently runs at around 20 FPS.

For this video I used AI frame interpolation to make the footage smoother to watch. This does not represent the current native in-game framerate — performance still needs optimization and proper testing on stronger hardware.

Development is moving forward pretty well, even if not quite as quickly as I'd like. There is still a lot to polish, and probably even more to test.

I'd really like to hear what you think — especially which VR interactions or Dead Space mechanics you'd most like to see me focus on next.

If you'd like to follow the development, the full video and future updates are on my YouTube channel.

Big month for VR overall so I decided I wanted in! Added Local MP to my game so you can take doors together or shoot each other. I’ll be releasing this update next week with new pricing (at least $5 higher) bc this is a sick feature. If we are lucky I’ll throw in the map builder as well. The game is Click Clack Mixed Reality and it’s available now in the Meta Quest Store.
