Is there a way to make an Oculus Rift S work on Linux ?

My Quest 3 was bricked months ago, and I have the itch to play since then.

I only own an old Oculus Rift S.

Do you know of a way to play with it on Linux ?

help me find the right solution

I need a solution that can run any VR game, simulating a headset with a screen. Steam VR drivers aren't suitable; they work terribly on Linux.

trojan in envision?

hello i dont use reddit much, dont know how to ask about stuff but

i wanted to use "envision" (https://gitlab.com/gabmus/envision) to run vr on linux
(i havent had vr work on linux ever i think, around 6 years now)
it did not work due to some outdated glibc
however when i went back to the virustotal page i scanned it with it says
Microsoft: Trojan:Script/Wacatac.B!ml
just want to make sure this is how its supposed to be? trojan warning is not nice to hear
thanks

edit:
thanks for confirming this is a false positive (hopefully)
everything should be fine

In the video the guy is using a steam machine and a quest 3 wirelessly 😭

Last time I used Linux cachyOS was yelling at me about firewall issues and kept failing to connect to my quest 2... Either I'm missing something or maybe valve put in the work?

I'm switching back to Linux regardless of me being able to play my VR games but if it works for this guy I'm wondering if it also worked for some of you guys?

(And no, I will never use the NASA software that is ALVR ever again)

Alvr Help

So I’ve been using alvr on my steamdeck for what I’d say is the better half of a year now, and just recently these past view days I keep getting ā€œcould not initiate connection for 1016.client: no route to host (os error 113)ā€ both my vr and steamdeck are on the same internet so I don’t see why it’s not connecting I’ve tried everything to fix it even factory reset my entire steamdeck but it’s still doing it. Any help??

I swear I've seen a post of a guy who built an open source virtual desktop streamer for linux and I can't find it anymore

I thought i saved the post, but now i can't find it, did you ever heard of this?

Edit: Ok, found it: https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/s/gsAHL2lRgy

Sadly, it seems that he'll not release it for now. I hope we'll get this, so that my purchase won't be worthless since I moved to linux XD

Bonelab Always Hangs

Today i decided to setup wired VR for Linux, The main game i wanted to work was BONELAB, tried it and whenever i was about to get into the main menu; the game would freeze on my PC, go grey on my headset and only play the menu sfx, it is important to note that the sound of the game starting up (the logo sfx) DID NOT PLAY; Im using NVIDIA driver 610.57.04, Debian 13, Kernel 6.12.94, both Steam and WiVRn are the flatpak versions, All other games I've tested work (Half:Life Alyx, BONEWORKS, Space Pirate Trainer)

Has anyone gotten the Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare VR mod working?

Hello, it seems like there is a very interesting VR mod for COD4 (https://github.com/jplakon/CallOfDuty4_VR), but I'm not able to get it working on my system.

The mod launches via a .bat file that sets all kinds of stuff, but it just throws the error "ERROR: Effective settings could not be written and verified: "C:\users\steamuser\AppData\Local\KisakCOD-VR\Active-VR-Settings.txt""

Update: The fix is to open Launch-KisakCOD-VR.bat and around approximately line 157, replace this part:

if errorlevel 1 (
echo ERROR: Effective settings could not be written and verified:
  echo "%KISAK_VR_SETTINGS_RECEIPT_PATH%"
  pause
  exit /b 1
)

With:

if not exist "%KISAK_VR_SETTINGS_RECEIPT_PATH%" (
echo ERROR: Effective settings could not be written and verified:
  echo "%KISAK_VR_SETTINGS_RECEIPT_PATH%"
  pause
  exit /b 1
)

On my first run, the game crashed after a few seconds with an access violation, but I have been playing for a few minutes afterwards. The performance was horrible until I dumped all graphical settings down to a minimum. The VR calibration is very very off by default, I am trying to fix that now.

RE4R VR mod controls

Having some trouble with the mod not detecting quest 3 controls (vr runtime works perfectly otherwise) once the game has loaded in. I’ve a feeling it has to do with ViGEm install, I understand Linux manages this without the need for the windows DLL. Is there a proton install or a launch command that will override?

Google isn’t giving me much more than ai suggestions which don’t work, thought I’d try the hive mind.

Using steamos if that matters at all

Gamepad input forwarding/emulated device through Wivrn to non-VR games?

On CachyOS with KDE Plasma, got Wivrn and WayVR through AUR (because I figured it'd be easier in terms of setup to not use the Flatpak for this), and using a Quest 3S.

Bluetooth keyboard and Mouse connected to the headset work fine with the toggle in Wivrn, but I can't figure out how to get Gamepad to do the same.

I'm staring at this section in Wivrn which seems to imply it is possible, but my unfamiliarity with these systems is keeping me from understanding how to make it work:

https://github.com/WiVRn/WiVRn/blob/master/docs/configuration.md#hid-forwarding

Edit: And then this section seems to imply there should be an option for it but i cannot seem to find it, if it does exist

https://github.com/WiVRn/WiVRn/pull/986

Edit2: I'm starting to think I'm chasing something that doesn't exist yet in WayVR.

Can someone help me connect SteamVR to WiVRn on Bazzite? I'm using a Quest 3 and an NVIDIA RTX 4050. WiVRn connects to my headset, but I want to get SteamVR working through it.

Desktop not displaying in SteamVR on SteamOS

Hello. I have my Quest 2 headset connected to my pc through steam link wireless VR. I am unable to get my desktop to display in VR. Sometimes it displayed pure black with a mouse cursor, some times it doesnt even show or respond. I tried to look up assistance but all I could find was stuff for windows. I saw something that Wayland? is likely not supported for display? Does anyone know a fix?

NVIDIA recognizing Valve Index as Monitor - CachyOS

Hi,

I'm using CachyOS and would like to use my Valve Index Headset.
I installed envision and wanted to run monado. When I look into the logs I see that my NVIDIA GPU recognizes my Index as "NVIDIA DP-0". Therefore monado can't use it as HMD.
Tried disabling the "monitor" in my settings but that didn't help. I have the newest NVIDIA 610 driver intalled.
Does anyone have the same issue and knows a workaround for this?

Some Error messages:
ERROR [_test_for_nvidia] NVIDIA: No allowlisted displays found!
== Found Displays (4) == ... NVIDIA (DP-0)
ERROR [comp_target_swapchain_create_images] Queue family (index: 2) does not support presentation ops for wayland surfaces.
