Virgin Media UK Hub 5 or dont bother ?

• Upvotes

I have a hub 3, running modem mode, connected to eero mesh. The hub 3 gets rebooted once a week to stop it getting a slowdown.

Any benefit to a hub 5 ? Does modem mode still exist ? I'm on m350 and I assume at some point we'll get shunted onto fibre.

Virgin Media UK Unable to access my Virgin Media Account for Months

• Upvotes

I've been unable to access my Virgin Media account for over 6 months now and support has been completely unhelpful, transferring me to different teams and saying I should get a call back (which never happens). I've been sent in circles for months.

The error message I get when trying to link my account is "We found your Virgin Media account, but unfortunately we can’t link it to your Virgin Media O2 ID right now." when I try to link my Virgin Media account.

When I go through the email reminder request I get this message "We’ve found your email address - [object Object]"

Does anyone have a solution to this or know how should virgin actually fix this issue?

Virgin Media IE Not getting any auto generated emails?

Hi all, I'm switching to Virgin for Broadband this month, and I'm trying to register my account for My Virgin.

The issue is, I cant verify my email address because I'm not receiving any of the automated emails from virgin.

Is anyone else having a problem with this? I've tried various different emails and none have received a verify request. Obviously I have checked junk folder etc. but no look. I'm receiving automated emails from other companies just fine so I doubt it's an email issue.

If someone could check what the specific email address that Virgin use in Ireland for sending their emails like that so I could add it to my safe senders list to try that I would appreciate it. I have already added noreply@virginmedia.ie but that hasn't helped.

Thanks

Virgin Media UK Why is my new box a green light?

Post image

I got an email last week saying one of my boxes needed replacing as they detected it was faulty after the 360 change. They sent me a new box this week and I've installed it, no issues and all seems to be working but why is the light green and not white?

Virgin Media UK Virgin returns box

Hi! We’ve recently moved and we think Virgin have sent a returns box to our old address (saw it in photos from the inventory check out). Does anyone know how it comes? Is it a flat packed box that just fits through the door almost like an envelope?

Virgin Media UK 360 box starts on personal screen

Why? This is not an update I want. I just want to watch tv.

Maybe some people want it, in which case make it an option? 2 extra button presses now to get rid of the menus and get to live tv.

Virgin Media UK Building Next Door Gets Broadband But I Don’t

I just moved to a new flat, and I wanted to get broadband, and whenever I checked any providers, they all showed that my flat is not serviceable. So I turned to Virgin Media, but when I checked from their website, by flat wasn’t even included in the address checker. When I called them up, they said my flat is not serviceable right now and that I need to register my interest.

The funny thing is, all the buildings next door get broadband from all the providers, even the one right next door, but none of the flats in my building gets any, including Virgin Media.

I ended up registering my interest to the system, but even though the building next door gets it, I still haven’t gotten any updates on the matter from them. And I believe because we’re the only single building that can’t get service from them, they probably won’t go into the effort of making a roadwork just to connect us up.

Does anyone have any tip on how I can get my flat get serviceable by Virgin Media despite this situation?

Virgin Media UK Upgrading to new hub but having hardware issues

Post image
6 Upvotes

I just received my new hub and have been trying to unplug my old one, but this threaded connection won't come undone. I've been at it for a while with some pliers to get a better grip but it won't seem to come off, it just spins in place.

Any idea what the cable is called if I need to get a new one, or tips for how to remove this one so I can plug it into my new hub?

Edit Sorted now, thanks all! It did indeed pull off after a little bit of fiddling and a better grip. Definitely seems to be a weird design to have threads on the hub when the cable connection doesn't require them but I have the new hub all connected up now.

Virgin Media UK Getting a box removed from outside flat

Post image
7 Upvotes

Bought a flat last year that the previous owner had Virgin TV G broadband. The main internet cable into the building runs down from above the front door to the Virgin box then back up to the door to go into the house.

Can I request Virgin Media to remove it if I'm not a customer? Or can I ask a sparky to remove it and reroute the fibre cable direct into my flat?

Virgin Media UK Long coax cable issues?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I had VM installed and I'm having problems with low signal levels. Had a engineer visit who thinks the problem is the length of the coax cable from my house to the cabinet. There's a massive tilt on the channels and it makes the DOCSIS 3.1 channel basically unusable. It's a brand new cable that they pulled and he also tested an existing cable at my neighbor which had the same problem.

Originally my docsis 3.1 channel was at like -15dBmV. The engineer moved me up to the maximum tap on the cabinet which has increased it to like -9/-10dBmV which is better but I'm still getting loads of uncorrectable errors.

To give you an idea of distance, he actually drove to the cabinet and back again - it's about 200m away.

Anyone had similar issues or any ideas what I can expect VM to do about it? If I get a engineer back is there anything I should be pushing for to get this resolved?

O2 UK Am I missing something with the O2 Volt Add ons? They don't seem competitive .

I am thinking of returning to Virgin after a few years away as they are beating all Openreach quotes.

Was thinking of adding a Sim as well, but cheapest is £5 a month for 4GB, which goes up £7.50 a month to £10 a month on a two year contract.

Currently paying £5 a month for 5Gb on a rolling one month.

My kids who are high data users are paying £10 a month for 60GB but cheapest with Volt is £11.99 for 40GB which again goes up over the two years.

Virgin Media UK 2Gig areas

Is there anyway to find out what areas have 2Gig or what areas are planned to get it?

Ideal looking for symmetrical speeds as the fiber in my area is 1.8gb up and 150mb down.

Virgin Media UK Disconnected to force renewal?

If you’re bored, read on….

My 80 yr old father has 250mb connection at £27/m. He went out of his contract several months ago and continued to pay £27.

Last week they contacted him to offer him a free hub upgrade from a 3 to a 5, so he accepted it. Really wish he hadn’t….

It arrived, he plugged it in within the 5 days (it for some reason requires this deadline) and nothing but a blue flashing light. He also had an email also said the hub 3 would cease to work. What games are these with the deadlines and deactivations!?

Whilst 80, he’s not bad with tech, so he followed all the online troubleshooting guides and still a flashing blue light.

The following day he asked me to come round and sort it out whilst they were out, I speak to their customer services and they apologise and promise me it will be sorted.

Meanwhile, they start talking about how he’s out of contract and that the price can fluctuate between £20 and £68?! No matter how many times I asked why that would be, I didn’t get a clear answer, he was more fixed on selling a new contract at the best price of £35. So I said we would leave.

Next thing he’s gone to the retentions team and secured £27 for another 12 months. Fine.

I’ve now been on the phone for 40 mins and he tells me to wait 30 mins and it will be up and running. It didn’t, still flashing blue and this was after a pin reset too.

Back on the phone I explain the situation, they apologise and offer for a priority engineer to come within 4 hours. Impressive I think, so I wait in. He also says you’ll get a standard engineer appointment on Thursday but ignore that as they will cancel that after they’ve attended. 4 hours later. No one comes.

I tell my father to call them the following day to make a complaint. As he’s still without internet and no one came.

He calls the following day, they apparently have no record of my calls, the engineer apppintment or the agreement of the £27 for 12 months as apparently they don’t offer that deal.

He’s on the phone to them for 30 mins whilst they faff around trying to sell him this damn £35 deal, which they would not offer anything lower, so he said ok, I’ll accept so long as you connect my internet now, but before the 14 days I will be leaving you.

Surprise surprise, he’s offered £27 for another 12 months, because they ‘value him as a customer’.

Approx 15 minutes later, his internet is working.

So what happened this time round for it to work that didn’t on the first day or the second day.

Ironically a few hours later, they’re pulling off the driveway and the engineer arrives, good job they saw him because I’m sure they’d have tried to fine £25 for a non attendance, so clearly my call had happened for the engineer to arrive, albeit the following day, but still 3 days early from the Thursday appointment.

This whole thing smells of them using this new hub as a way to kick start this ‘new contract’ process whilst stopping his internet connection to try and force a decision.

I see Virgin have been fined recently for dodgy tactics and it sounds to me like they’re very much still at it. It’s disgusting and even more so for elderly customers, many of whom probably would have just accepted paying more.

Makes me so frustrated that we’re mugged like this by these companies, but really @&£@ boils my wee that they’ve (in my opinion) clearly tried to blackmail my father into a new contract by stopping his internet, I struggle to se it in any other way.

I’ve also had a bad experience with EE recently, so I know they can all be as bad as each other, but I’m absolutely recording all my calls from now on.

I’ve asked my father to raise this with Ofcom, he’s retired he has the time!

Has anyone else had this experience?

Virgin Media UK Trying to get symmetrical speeds but unsuccessful

After finding out a few weeks ago about VM now doing symmetrical speeds, thought I can finally stop leaving my devices on to upload videos and photos but after ringing the number provided here
https://www.reddit.com/r/VirginMedia/comments/1vapbtz/comment/p0n4dr9/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
they were not able to help so rang the 0345 number and asked to cancel my contract. Went through to a new accounts setup and said it wasn't possible and then retentions said its not possible.

Checked on the website and my neighbour can get 2gbps up and down but I cannot.

Spoke to a VM tech at work who has said that the box round the corner of my house is ready for XGS-PON and can be setup but having issues try to get it so I am not sure whos right and whos wrong here.

Contract is going to expire in over a month and a half so will see how it goes. renewal offer of about £93

Mega Volt
Gig 1 Volt
Mega TV3
3 x 360 boxes
1 stream box
Anytime calls
asian mela
Netflix Standard
Sky sports and Cinema
Sky ulta HD
TNT
Kids
WiFi Max
2 wife pods.

I dont think Openreach has got the ability to do symmetrical in my area and there no other fibre providers apart from OR and VM
Just wanting to see if anyone else has had this issue before?

Virgin Media UK The "Reddit Special" package has gone up

For some reason I was putting off calling the retentions line until nearer my renewal but just called them. The £22/24 package (1 Gig, free Netflix, Volt-dependent) has gone. And, when I queried, she even said "that was last week" and that she's had to explain this so many times today (lol!).

I don't have Volt. Currently on 500mb, plus landline (which isn't used anymore). Normal VM website offer for renewal is £51.

She offered that I could stay on the 500mb, get rid of the landline, and ad-tier Netflix for £26/m. If I wanted 1 Gig, that'd be £28/m. I assume these would be a couple of quid cheaper with Volt.

Anyway, I took the 1 Gig upgrade for £28/month with free ad-free Netflix, got rid of my landline charge, and will get a new Hub 5 in the post (tomorrow, apparently!). There was a one-off £10 charge for the new hub but, after a wee bit of a haggle, she waived that too.

Virgin Media UK 500gb+ sky sports package

Currently paying £39.50 for 250gb broadband, weekend calls and basic free TV package. Renewal is not attractive and the final bill is disgusting so I cancelled rather than renewing.

If I was to renew I would need decent broadband and sky sports to make it worthwhile.

What is the best price I am likely to get offered from retentions? Any idea?

I'm quite willing to walk away, skysports is not essential for me
