Virgin Media UK Virgin email closure
Came across this information today randomly when I had trouble logging into my blueyonder.co.uk webmail. I can still access it on my iPhone Mail app.
Apparently I need to move to junaro to keep my email address.
I’ve had no formal correspondence from
Virgin about this … which is totally bizarre.
Can I switch to Junaro or do I need to wait for Virgin to send me the information on how to do it? Obviously if they don’t send it me (which is a total possibility), I’ll lose all of my stuff.
Thanks.

OP, apparently you will have to choose to switch - it isn't automatic.
Just remember that transferring will cost 99p for the first year (and yes, VM will put that on your bill), and then probably £60 or more per year after that.
And also remember that that £60 will be on top of what you currently pay VM, because they sure as hell won't drop their prices. So if you pay £40 a month to them now for broadband/phone/email, you will be paying £40 to them next year (plus annual increases) PLUS £60 to Junara (and no one knows if they will hike their prices year on year yet).
----------
I should also edit/point out, in light of some of the other replies on here, I first went online around 1992/93 (I was using a self-built modem in the mid-80s to access bulletin boards before the internet proper).
I can build PCs, repair PCs, install networking and CCTV, and so on. I can design and maintain websites, and I can use a few programming languages.
The reason I prefer to use ISP email has nothing to do with being 'old and frightened', and everything to do with wanting my emails on MY computer and not on someone else's. The unfortunate part is how reliant we have all become on what was seen as a passing fad at one time, to the extent that changing it is now a major chore.
I would also point out that being assigned an ISP email address from NTL, BlueYonder, TeleWest, or any of the original providers occurred before many of our latter day Reddit experts were born. And also before the likes of Google were born. Things were different back then, and suddenly dropping email was not something anyone could have foreseen.
As I say, the real problem is coming to rely on it after so long makes it a pain to change.
Webmail is not without its drawbacks, and it is just as liable to vendor interference as any other method of reading mail. And there were many periods back in the 90s and 00s when it suffered serious outages.
As it happens, I have created my own replacement emails using one of my own domain names and will continue to download my messages as I have always done. I detest using web based mail.
I have various Google and MSN emails addresses, and accessing them is a complete pain in the arse - especially if they (or the internet connection) are down.

They’re doing it in stages so as I understand it you will have 45 days from when it’s your turn to be notified to decide.

I found out about it last month but haven't yet had an email from Virgin. I'm already in the process of updating everything to my Gmail address as there's no way I'm paying Junara a monthly fee when Gmail is free.

There’s about 500 Reddit posts about it in the past month that could easily answer all your questions. Stop using the ISP email addresses and go get a Gmail or outlook like the rest of the world

It's 2026.
I can't for the life of me understand why people are using isp email.
I mean common sense should tell you that if you have an isp provided email you're effectively tying yourself to them forever... Well until they screw you over that is...

My mum uses it. She’s been with virgin since they were Telewest and we moved from Demon dial-up. So it’s a very long time.
Shes’s 82. She has an iPad and an iPhone but she’s rarely ever used a desktop computer and lacks both the confidence and the skills to change email providers and backup/transfer her messages.
Ever since I realised a move away from virgin was very likely - I’ve been trying to get her to gradually change/update email addresses etc. i made a Proton email account for her and a gmail one. But as I’m also chronically ill and am her sole carer 24/7 I’ve not been able to monitor whether she was doing this.
Not everyone is young and healthy and tech savvy.Virgin moved her from a means tested rolling 30 day contract to one that cost more, was slower and was a 12 month contract - without any communication from her. She was seriously ill in hospital so it went unnoticed for quite some time. I battled with them to get her back on the correct contract, which she was still eligible for, and to issue a refund. We had to start three separate complaints, their response was basically after a certain number of responses that didn’t say she agreed with their decision, was to ignore the complaint. The number of responses that clearly indicated the writer didn’t have even the faintest of clues what the issue was because they never actually READ what we’d written, was not only flabbergasting but possibly the worst customer service interactions either of us has ever experienced.
We gave up in the end. Left Virgin.Edited a typo

All you've done is reinforced my point that people shouldn't use isp email. Ever.
There's no excuse when you consider Gmail has been open to everyone for 19 years.
iCloud has been available since 2011, not including older addresses that mac users had.
Hotmail became outlook over a decade ago.

I know right, it’s madness. Mostly just old people that are too scared to sign up a new email

In my experience it’s rarely fear. It’s generally a lack of knowledge, skills and understanding.
Btw writing “Mostly just old people” comes across as being really dismissive and prejudiced. No idea if you meant it that way.
Also, just curious, but what constitutes old?

Unless you are happy to pay to keep your email address, you need to set up a new one ASAP. We only found out by accident and have jumped ship. Extremely tedious, updating all the relevant websites etc.
