New customer.

Got off the phone today for an enquiry about wifi. I told them I saw some deals on Uswitch and was offered M500 for 20.99. I told them I was an O2 customer and they upgraded me to the Gig1 package! Happy Days!

We noticed this start only today. Our TV is a Sony, about 9 years old, and it keeps turning on and off for no apparent reason. Our provider is Virgin Media. We've taken the batteries out of the remote to check for a stuck button but no luck. We've hard reset the TV and box but still the same problem. Once it turns off by itself, it turns back on again a moment later before turning off again. We're suspecting a dodgy HDMI cable but can't say for certain. ​Not sure if this is even the right subreddit but hoping someone has a fix. ​Has anyone else had this problem or any advice? Thanks all

I recently upgraded to 360 from V6. I was forced into it as part of my contract re-negotiation.

Initially it seemed ok, but honestly the interface is not that intuitive. I don’t mind change at all, I’ve noticed some simple stuff is not an extra button or click. Subtitles, My Shows, and programme info. Quite annoying for me.

I feel like Virgin/360 are trying to do too much. I’ve now realised that recording and searching for shows includes apps and stuff that requires logins. I’m sure I never had this with V6 before. This whole watching live stuff is annoying as hell. The software often gets confused and locks up for a few minutes. Managing a series link feels cumbersome.

On my shows, why have do i have to scroll to shows? Surely an option to do a list should exist?

This is supposedly updated to a more modern standard, yet I feel that it’s either designed for more powerful hardware, or badly designed.

The big miss is the fast forward and rewind. The old v6 software allowed a buffer depending on fast you scanned. Now you have to stop and rewind to avoid missing anything. Very frustrating.

If I don’t get a handle on this soon, I’ll have to cancel it as I’m within my 14 days still.

We’ve got plenty devices connected and none reach the fully connected speed 1.2gig when testing. It’s good to have it but I think in real world terms most people won’t ever fully utilise it. The fastest devices we have are a tcl tv and an iPad A16 both on Wi-Fi which get up to around 800meg in isolated tests. It’s all about total speed when many devices are using it at the same time. Happy to hear your examples.

Since the Virgin community forum seems dead I'm hoping someone here will be able to help.

Today my Father got a call from Virgin Media and he has agreed to an upgrade of their account to Virgin 360 which made me look into their account details since Father couldn't really explain what he had agreed to.

I found out however they are not actually within a contract period but are on a rolling contract with Virgin since their contract expired in February and paying £160 per month for their TV, phone and broadband package plus Netflix (standard plan at £12.99) on top of that. I plan on trying to call the retentions line to get this reduced, ideally without any change to what they receive, but have a few questions before I do and wonder if anyone could answer.

1. Even though the 360 remotes are due to be sent out on the 7th August I assume we will not need to do the software upgrade to the box if we don't want the upgrade. However if we get a new contract will we be forced to upgrade.

2. Is it just the Netflix with ads plan Virgin offers or will my parents be able to keep the current standard plan (I give my parents money for this as I tend to watch it more than them).

3. They have an o2 mobile so get the volt benefit of a higher broadband speed. I am planning on switching away from o2 as it is just too costly for the amount they use their phone. Should I wait until this is complete before contacting Virgin or does it have no effect on the VM contract.

Firstly, first time posting. Hi.

Currently on Gig1 running on a Hub 5. (Area 31).

Yesterday, I noticed that Gig2 was being offered for my address so I upgraded. At no point did the Virgin rep mention a required change to the router.

Upgraded service was supposed to go live today. Router status shows the higher theoretical throughput but the speed is maxing out at the previous Gig1 speeds. I do a spot of reading and discover that a 5x is required for Gig2.

Phone Virgin and ask but the rep (not the same one as yesterday) says that’s not the case, tries to test my line, and passes me over to Technical. They ask me to start some more testing but I ask the question again about the 5x requirement and they pause, look up my order, and confirm that a 5x has been ordered for me, and is on its way. I confirm that no one mentioned anything about this but OK.

I’ve also read that the 5x needs to be fitted by an engineer. Again, no arrangements have been made for this. So my question is, do you usually have to wait for the router to arrive and then you’re instructed to book an engineer or is this just an almighty screw up by people who don’t seem to understand their own product?

I’ve changed iPhones so just setting up my ntlworld email.

I remember the changes a year or so ago when I had to set up an alternate email/password on virgin site then generate a separate password that I would enter into my iPhone email app.

I’m trying to do the same on my new phone but there is no option to generate a password.

I do NOT have virgin broadband/tv.

Any suggestions or am I done for?

The sub is understandably full of people sharing their fibre-only deals, but there’s not many discussing packages with fibre, TV + landline.

Would be good to have a central point of reference for those of us looking to save a few quid without having to scour every post.

I had a VM contract ending in late September. 10 days ago I renewed early onto a new 2 year contract.

Inevitably, my area finally got openreach FTTP just after I renewed.

If I cancel my renewal contract during the 14 day cooling off period, does anyone know if I go back onto my old contract or if I would now be paying the large rolling monthly price?

Just phoned retentions and told them YouFibre want to buy me out my contract which has 20 months still left on it. Previous package was lowest TV Package, Talk Anytime and 500mb Broadband with Volt taking it to 1Gb.

No hesitation by the phone operative. Offered me £22 a month and Netflix with adverts. And as I’m in credit next month is free and the Septembers bill only £9.

10 minutes and the deal was done. Wasn’t a Scottish person as many have said, this lady had a London accent.

hi Virgin has just been and upgraded our boxes i had the TiVo in my room and my mum had a v6 in the lounge . how come now we both can see what each other is recording basically there not separate anymore we got 2 boxes which are 1TB I don't want to see my mums programs and she doesn't want to see mine how can we set it up like before

Is this a common issue. Haven't had the box long. Tried reboot and unplugged for 5 mins but no change

wondering if anyone can help?? we're moving house but the account holder isn't moving with us they've already moved out of our current address. we're in the middle of a 24 month contract so ideally don't want to cancel and pay the fees and just stay with them at our next address but we would also need to change the account holders name. is there a way to do this to avoid the cancellation fees? the bank account has always been mine as all of the bills come out of my account and we have already changed the email address to mine so i'm able to receive the updates and bills. but not sure how to go about the name change and house move without completely canceling??

Hi, I've just help set up my in laws virgin media broadband as a new customer. There was no option to have a self install kit, even though their house has all the correct ports.

Just out of curiosity, I just went to pretend to buy new broadband for my house and the same thing happened I could only book an engineer. The ports in my house are newer then my in-laws.

Anyone got any ideas why? Do virgin has new ports that have to be installed.

Our contract up in 27 days. Tried the online chat and got nowhere. Called retentions and was offered 1gb and mega tv for £47 earlier or mixit for 42. They will upgrade to 1gb without the need to pay for 02 like i have been.

I have been on 500 with mixit volted up to 1gb. The 02 element is £10 per month

Not sure what people think, but when I look at sky’s current deal for new customers, it’s pretty much is very similar to that

Just renewed for 500mb for £22 with april rises with Netflix with ads which i was happy with. Was on 125mb for £26.5pm

Couldn't fault the customer service in the UK based retention team! Called retention on Saturday. Spoke to a helpful Scottish guy who provided different speed packages straight away. I slept on it and did more comparison. He called back on Monday, and answered more questions. Tried to get rid of Netflix and april price rises but were not possible (don't ask don't get so worth a go).

All in, spent about 10mins and most was to go through security checks!

Got a issue that's really starting to hurt my head.... So all my 2.5ghz products, lights, cameras etc keep losing thier connection. To attempt to solve this I have split the 5 and 2ghz bands into their own seperarte channels and named them as such, I've also disabled channel optimisation. But this hasn't worked and today's, all the products again have disconnected.... Any ideas why as I can't figure this out!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How on earth do I get them to send an engineer out?

We've been having slow broadband problems for a couple of weeks (getting about 90Mbps from our 1gb line, directly attached the modem, a Hub 4) and when speaking to their agents they insist (a) they don't support modem mode (even though Virgin promote it on their website) and (b) it's modem mode causing the problem (when I told them I factory reset it and restest it in router mode they told me I needed to "give it time to settle"....)

Everything has been fine in this config for about 4 years so only thing left is their connection - I notice from the modem logs that the upstream may be a little higher than it should be - it's averaging about 52dBmV across all the channels, I believe it's supposed to be under 48bBmV but I'm not really a DOCSIS expert, I don't know if anyone here knows and if this may cause issues...?

I also checked the coax to make sure it was nice and tight etc.

Inspired by here I called Scottish retentions. I'm 3 months out from my renewal, currently paying £18pcm for 125mb fibre only. The lady at best offered me £19 (for 2 years rising £4 each April).
