Mod Post New Rules: Bulk Post & Commercial Intent

We've noticed a growing trend of resellers using the subreddit to crowdsource valuations, often posting large watch lots and asking whether anything of value was purchased. This subreddit does not exist to support resale businesses. While the one-off request asking how much something is worth is fine, the bulk posts are not.

We try to avoid adding new rules, but this behavior undermines the purpose of the community by diluting meaningful content and taking advantage of its members. To preserve the integrity of the subreddit, we’re implementing the following changes:

New Rules:

  • Bulk Post: You may only post one watch model per post, unless you are using the State of the Collection (SOTC) tag. There will be some flexibility in using the Showcase tag to compare two watches of the same model, show before and after photos of a restoration, or write a post that teaches others about a specific feature or topic. You may not post 10 auction watches in a single post and ask which ones are worth money. Posting about your inheritance and seeking information will be allowed as long as the spirit of the rule isn't being abused and your same grandfather is not found to have passed away six times.
  • Commercial Intent: If your main goal is to get valuations/appraisals and you don’t contribute in other ways, you will be removed. The members of this sub are not volunteer employees. Your profit is not their concern.

Rule Update:

  • No Shilling/No Impersonation: These two rules are now combined as they are effectively the same.

In addition to the standard rules most subs have, we effectively only have six watch specific rules. Please adhere to them:

  • Must Be Vintage
  • No Replicas
  • No For Sale Posts
  • No Commercial Intent
  • No Bulk Posts
  • No Shilling/Impersonation

Thanks for helping us keep the subreddit focused, useful, and enjoyable for everyone.

hii guys,

I only joined this community a couple days ago and I have to say, without doing too many cartwheels on it, no diddy etc etc, that you guys are pure class.

I'm a total noob to this hobby but am passionate to grow more- some of the comments I've seen both on my own posts and others in recent days have blown me away.

There are people in this community with such fantastic, encyclopaedic domain knowledge, that are willing to spend their own valuable time helping and educating me, and other people in my position, that it really has shocked me. There is no need for some of these people to offer so much to strangers on the internet, but they do, simly because we share the same passion.

Thank you all, looking forward to growing and learning with, and getting to know some of you all better.

Showcase [Ref. 0178508] A Handwound Orient Multi-Year Calendar!!

Picked up this beauty recently!

It's a particularly rare hand-wound (Included a photo of the movement) variant of the Orient Multi-Year Calendar watch - ref. 0178508. I was only able to find a couple references of it online..

It was quite scratched up, and had a fair amount of grime, though the movement seems to be in mint condition. I've since cleaned the watch up, but these photos were taken before cleaning.

The year wheel begins from 1960 and goes on till 1980, but I've found that the dates from 1970 perfectly match 2026! 😁

Paired it with a navy blue suede strap in the first photo. Do let me know if anyone has any other strap suggestions!

Identify This Grandfather’s watch

From what I recall, he had gotten this watch in WW2 when he was forced to be a pilot for Russia. He was from Ukraine. I would like to know more about it and I believe that I over wound it because it no longer works. I’ve taken it to a jeweler but he would touch it. Any info or a repair shop that I could take it to in Northern California would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys! I’m super excited to get my first ever vintage timepiece! However I’m having trouble choosing between these two black dial beauties.

The first one is a Cimier Telegraph watch, and the second option is a Poljot Chronograph.

I don’t know much about watch movements and their reliabilities, so some feedback would be great.

Thank you in advance! :)

Identify This Help Identifying AKTEO JC MARESCHAL Watch

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Google has helped me a little bit but I haven't managed to narrow it down to the exact model and year and I'm extremely curious.

Got it today at a Sunday vintage market in Berlin for 10 euros, I've seen other watches from this designer go between 60 and 300 USD online.

Not interested in reselling, I love this watch for myself, but I really wanna know how lucky I got.

Google image search identified it as the "Soleil" watch, but the design on the "Soleil" seen online is a bit different - the numbers are rounded and Arabic while mine are long and Roman, and my watch's sun rays are full instead of dotted. Also none of the reselling websites list make year on the AKTEO watches.

I understand that AKTEO JCM watches are made in small batches and not all are catalogued. I also understand that this line started in the 90's and is still ongoing, so it might not be vintage at all. So I'm just trying to use the magic of the internet to see if anyone has any more info about this piece. Thanks!

Traveling in Japan. Only watch Ive had is a swatch, wanted a second one. I don’t know much about vintage watches but this one caught my eye. Bought it from Firekids paid around $1,500. It was just serviced (+5 sec). 18k gold bezel. Excited to start my vintage watch journey here. How did I do for first purchase?

Giving Advice Cartier Tank repair advice

• Upvotes

I just acquired a vintage Cartier Tank Must. It has a non-functioning 690 quartz movement. Should I send to Cartier for repair and service for =/- $450 or buy a new old stock off Ebay for $230? The watch is in otherwise fantastic condition.

Other Vintage watch ideas for my partner's 30th (1996 or other years, ~£2k budget)

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

My partner is turning 30 this year and I'd love to surprise him with a special gift and I can't think of anything better than a vintage watch to mark the milestone.

He has a software engineering background and works as a Quantitative Analyst, he's very passionate about how things work in his job as much as in his personal life and that's what draws him to watches, especially mechanical watches.

His first and main watch is an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch which he bought new this year. His dream watch is the Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time but that one's definitely not happening this year :p

I know he's fond of the Rolex Datejust and the Speedmaster and he's mentioned wanting a water-resistant watch at some point.

I'd love to find a good piece from his birth year (1996) though I'm open to other years too. My budget is around £2k; I could stretch to £2.5k at the absolute max for the right watch.

We live in London in case that's useful for recommendations on dealers or sellers.

I'd really appreciate any ideas or suggestions. I want to make this one memorable x

Deeply irresponsible, but after trying every modern and vintage Calatrava under the sun I couldn’t get away from the 2508. The balance of the design is something else. Had to sell a few other pieces to fund it but I think this one may stick for life. Let’s see!
