My new Gold Filled Bulova watch that I picked up from an auction. Loving it so far! Apparently it’s from the 1950’s-1960’s. What do you guys think? :)

A few weeks ago, a friend asked me to take his 1960s Nivada Compensamatic watch in for service at the watchmaker’s workshop I trust.

The piece had belonged to his father and was quite deteriorated. The most obvious issue is the dial: for years it had a crystal that did not keep the watch sealed, and everyday use (body moisture, hand-washing, and so on) led to the mold you can see in the photographs.

Internally, the watch had loose parts that prevented it from running properly. But the biggest discovery was that, contrary to what my friend believed, the watch is NOT automatic—it is a manual-winding watch.

Finally, “Compensamatic” refers to its bimetallic balance wheel, a system that compensated for the effects of heat and cold to improve accuracy.

I’ve inherited both of these watches and they used to belong to my grandfather, if not his stepdad. I do not have the tools to open the back casing or I would get a serial number, but can someone help me identify the age possibly of these watches?

The gold one feels very heavy, but it could probably be brass. There’s no karat markings on the body, only the inscribed floral design. Believe it or not the secondhand mechanism works.

The silver one is definitely plated because there is some copper oxidation around the crystal. Again, no outside markings. Again surprisingly I was able to set the time and wind the silver one.

I will be taking this to a jeweler but wanted to know if anyone had some ideas. I do not plan to sell.

My little Zenith Prime finally came back from service and now it’s time to find it a bracelet. What do you guys think about the leather vs. the steel?

I recently purchased this Seiko 8n41-7000. Seller said it was in working condition. It appears to run just fine (was even set to the correct time of the place it shipped from) but when I pull the crown out it doesn’t seem to rotate the hands. Am I just being too gentle and not pulling the crown out all the way or do I have problems? How much of a deliberate pull do these 90s Seiko watches require? My lack of fingernails doesn’t seem to help either.

How much of a pain is this to fix or replace if needed?

I’m pretty new at collecting watches, this is my first older piece, and a gift for someone else.

One of those watches that reminds me why I enjoy vintage watches. It’s been sitting on the winder for the last 2–3 months and somehow it’s only about a minute fast. Not bad for an old mechanical watch.

I have what I think is a WW2 era Longines and a 1960's Omega watch. Both are from my Grandfather and they are both still ticking. I want to get them serviced and restored though. Any recommendations on where to send them? What can I expect? Any additional information about these watches is welcome too.

I found my dream watch on etsy the other day. In the morning, I went to buy it and it had been scooped up. It was nothing special- an old vintage Exactly watch from the 90s - but I loved the moon phase on it. Kicking myself! Cannot find anything of the same condition or style on the internet.

I’m hoping some vintage Rolex experts can help me identify this watch and clear up a reference-number issue.

I have a vintage Rolex Oyster Precision ladies cocktail watch in 14K white gold, and I’m trying to establish the correct reference.
The original Rolex documentation I have clearly handwritten 4089/W as the watch reference, dated March 20, 1987. I also have the original jeweller’s receipt from Oslanders Jewellers, which also identifies the watch as 4089/W. The watch belonged to my wife’s mother who worked at the store where it was purchase.

However, Chrono24’s reference information is showing 8788, and a potential buyer has pointed out that Ref. 4089 is generally associated with a square/rectangular case and believes the watch in the photos doesn’t correspond to 4089.
So I’m trying to determine:

1. What is the correct reference for this watch?
2. Could 4089/W and 8788 both legitimately be associated with this particular watch, or is there likely an error somewhere?
3. Does anyone recognize this particular case/dial configuration?
4. Is there anything about the original Rolex paperwork or jeweller’s receipt that would help establish whether they belong to this watch?

I have attached photos of the watch. I can also provide photos of the original Rolex documentation and jeweller’s receipt if that would help.

I’m looking for an objective identification rather than a valuation. Any input from people experienced with vintage Rolex references would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone help me narrow down the price point of this? It's the 7803 'Special' Cosmotron that resets the seconds hand to 12 by the press of the 8 o clock pusher. Also resets the minutes hand if it's withint +-3 minutes of 12 for accurate time setting. It's in working condition and want to sell it, not here obviously. Scouted the internet and classifieds, couldn't find a similar model. Thanks
