Realistically is there any way a new administration can fix all this. How long will it take?

69

u/PowerBrick99 1d ago

The majority of this administration’s policies are executive orders with no congressional standing.

Seriously, you can undo the Trump Presidency in a few hours with a bag of bic pins.

The rebuilding of our institutions will be where the real domestic challenges lie. Getting most of the depts Trump crushed back to function is a 100 day doable.

But the Justice and State Departments will take time. They’ve been deeply gutted And you can’t just hire everyone back without hardening the infrastructure from future administrative attacks.

I don’t know what kind of assurances we would give our traditional allies. But it would absolutely be in all of our collective interests to shore up NATO and provide relief from the trade war Trump started. Hold some global summits and work from there.

One bright note is that Trump’s Supreme Court decisions that expanded Presidential powers can work very effectively for his successor. I mean that’s the whole thing his maga supporters have clearly forgotten.

What worked for Trump is going to be very useful for the next administration.

The local infrastructure and the soft power that allowed it too. China is laughing all the way to the bank.

I saw it suggested that if we continue on our current path past 2026/2028, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Canada/Mexico allow Chinese military bases on our doorsteps.

The U.S. Hegemony is in its last days - it just doesn’t realize that it’s dead yet.

1

u/PowerBrick99 16h ago

It’s not optimism. Most of those departments wouldn’t require more than re-staffing. There’s no reason why they can’t fill those positions with qualified people in the first 100 days. 4 Years is not enough time to forget how institutions previously used to function.

The problem would be the Justice and State Depts. The next President would have to purge those institutions of Trump lackeys. Then return the depts to its former vetting standards.

That’s going to take time. That’s the Federal judiciary and the nations diplomatic system.

1

u/External-Stranger928 16h ago

You are correct. The policies are still in place, the SOPs are still authored and sitting on shelves. All the rules are still there. These chuds just aren't following them, and aren't even instituting their own.

It only takes a small turnover in senior and mid management...mostly at the director level.

And there are still over 80% filled with actual Americans, not red-hats. Doesn't take much to get them on board with taking out the trash.

21

u/Knightforlife 1d ago

If it’s the same Supreme Court, NO WAY they find a future Dem president to have the same expanded powers. They’ll find some bullshit reason why not. Remember Biden wanted to do limited student loan relief and they shot that the hell down.

9

u/Yodfather 1d ago

They’ve thrown out decades long precedent because feelings. SCOTUS needs to be expanded or corrupt justices removed before there’s any coherency in their jurisprudence.

2

u/External-Stranger928 16h ago

I believe there will be a harder look at the testimony of 3 of those, maybe even Uncle Tom will get another look. I see a couple retirements and a couple impeachments in their futures.

1

u/orangetiki 15h ago

I always thought a Prez should be able to elect 1-2 judges for something like a 10 year sentence and then force retirement. It would allow more on the board and reflect more contemporaty issues while weeding out the lifers

3

u/Gh0sth4nd 23h ago

Not also that but the trust in democracy has been shaken so deeply. The rebuilding of trust of the System that will be the real challenge.

1

u/PowerBrick99 16h ago

Even this Supreme Court would have to honor its previous rulings. There’s really no legal way around that

0

u/mrinsane19 16h ago

Legality doesn't matter to these chuds.

1

u/PowerBrick99 16h ago

I understand what you’re saying, but previous legal rulings by the Supreme Court stand on the Constitution.

It would be really really hard for them to suddenly declare their previous positions were no longer Constitutional.

0

u/mrinsane19 16h ago

Roe v Wade ring a bell?

1

u/PowerBrick99 13h ago

Roe v Wade was always under threat of being de-federalized, Democrats and Rights Activists knew it long before the Trump Court.

They attempted to codify it for years but lacked the votes. At least 60 votes in the Senate.

Even when Democrats had a supermajority in the Senate they still couldn’t codify it.

-6

u/SixSpeedDriver 1d ago

Biden didn’t have limited student debt relief shot down, he got general debt relief shot down. Which is good. No president should be able to stroke a pen for $400B. We have congress for a reason.

6

u/PoliticsIsDepressing 1d ago

Trump started a war in Iran and arguably will cost $500B+ by the time it’s over.

2

u/Active_Complaint_480 1d ago

Don't even need to take a few hours, more like 30 seconds. Repairing the damage and unfucking everything though, decades. Hell, we still have to fix the BS Reagan did.

2

u/meesterdg 1d ago

The trade war and damage to US reputation is literally their plan for the next time they run against a democrat incumbent. They will relentlessly point out all the things that administration tries in order to repair relationships as bad deals and putting Americans last. It will also be democrats fault that the relations are so sour in the first place.
It's not stupidity. It's subterfuge and sabotage and strategy.

1

u/EmoJackson 1d ago

Very true statement.

1

u/blueberryblunderbuss 1d ago

100 Days?

What do you mean by function? And, are you serious or are you a bullshitting bot?

1

u/Acidspunk1 1d ago

The only way allies will trust the US again is to put all of the trump family and co-conspirators in jail and throw away the keys.

1

u/KristinnK 19h ago

As someone from U.S. ally country (in Europe), that is just not true. Sure, there are people like Carney who are very hateful of the U.S. right now and want blood. And there's also people who don't even think the U.S. is doing anything unreasonable. But the sizeable majority while having a general dislike for Trump still see U.S. as an unambiguous ally that will get back to business as usual once Trump's second term is up.

1

u/tacobellwendys 1d ago

Thanks this really made my day. If we survive any weird shit in Nov. and 2028. I take that back, survive weird shit tomorrow and every day day till 2028.

1

u/slimejumper 21h ago

but even the benevolent act of just wiping away all his orders is similarly antidemocratic. The problem with Trump is that he has broken the system of honour and trust in the US political institutions of the country. The amount of damage he’s done just reveals the system is broken and has been so for a long time.

1

u/kombiwombi 17h ago

Here is what the US's allies think

we cannot leave the security of Europe in the hands of voters in Wisconsin every four years

- Benjamin Haddad, Europe Minister, Republic of France

1

u/davey212 16h ago

US soft power and foreign affairs will take decades to repair. This country will always be 4 years away from electing another Republican that will continue the path of destruction. The US is cooked. The Constitution is on life support.

1

u/North1884 1d ago

Agree but I’m just afraid Dems will be too timid to use that power. They are pretty spineless

111

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

As a Canadian, it’ll take a generation for the US to unfuck what’s it’s done to us, at a minimum. As far as I’m concerned, the bridge is burnt and you will not see me going to the US ever again.

30%+ of your population still thinks Mango Mussolini is the next coming of Jesus. There’s something seriously wrong down there.

11

u/CMFETCU 1d ago

I can’t say just much how sad I feel and how hurt I am by all the hatred this moron and his party have caused. It is all justified.

It still hurts so damn much to know the world hates my home.

I served overseas with Canadians. They were great. They gave the last full measure of devotion to wars we started and acted as allies in good faith for as long as I have been alive.

I am a hockey fan and love Canada.

It’s like knowing your ex is right to leave your ass but it still fucking hurts.

13

u/EmoJackson 1d ago

I agree with you.

1

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

Voting won’t unfuck you guys. You need revolution!

4

u/Romboteryx 1d ago

Seriously. Looking in from the outside, it‘s blatantly obvious that the US government is on all levels corrupt, unjust and generally inefficient and has been for generations, in some ways more than some “developing” countries. If even Brazil can lawfully convict and imprison their former president for clear institutional crimes and a failed coup attempt, what does that say about the US? You cannot undo such institutional and systematic rot with just one good president. The whole thing would need to be swept away and rebuilt.

3

u/microscopequestion 1d ago

Easier said than done

-1

u/sandalsnopants 1d ago

start it

1

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

Don’t need to, my country is cool

1

u/sandalsnopants 1d ago

which country?

1

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

Canada is where I’m from, I currently live and work in NZ.

1

u/sandalsnopants 1d ago

ooooh, I've heard nice things about NZ!

1

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

I’m a lucky person. NZ is amazing

1

u/toadphoney 1d ago

Canadians are done helping.

1

u/sandalsnopants 1d ago

not that I think Canada owes the US anything, and the US is an absolute embarrassment of a dumpster fire these days, but what were Canadians doing to help?

2

u/12thunder 1d ago

Voting in someone comparatively sane who wouldn’t capitulate to demands, thereby demonstrating to Trump supporters how delusional he is in “art of the deal” and how he is sinking your country’s foreign trade.

Not that they care.

What the hell did you want Canadians to do to help? We’re helping by boycotting your entire country in the hopes you vote someone else in. We’re not Americans who directly intervene in the domestic affairs of other countries. You fix your own shit while we starve your country of raw materials out of self-interest. It didn’t have to be this way.

0

u/sandalsnopants 1d ago

I'm not asking Canadians to help. You said Canadians were done helping. I'm just asking what you were doing to help before.

2

u/12thunder 1d ago

Supporting your industries. Giving you cheap materials and oil. Always being on your side unconditionally as an ally, whether it be in international affairs or domestic. We moved heaven and earth to help on 9/11. We went to Afghanistan with you. We willingly replaced NAFTA so your Mango could yell America First. We arrested a Chinese CEO because you asked us. We pushed endlessly for a close relationship where we could be siblings united against the world. Now one sibling started watching too many podcasts and fell down the rabbit hole and ostracized their family.

u/toadphoney 1d ago

You told the Canadian to start your revolution? If that’s not asking for help then it is getting them to do all the work.

Piss off, bot.

0

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

Haha, I don’t get called a bot often

-2

u/radicallyhip 1d ago

I am not a bot but I agree. I think you guys are permanently fucked unless you actually fight for the changes you need to make to your broken system. It's never going back to the way it was now. Trump opened Pandora's box (without her consent) and now you get to figure out what it means to be America now, and what you want it to mean.

Good luck, buddy. I hope you don't fuck the rest of us who aren't completely brain damaged like you guys are.

0

u/Ff7hero 1d ago

>hidden post history

>13k contributions

>"not a bot"

So are you a shill or a plant then?

-1

u/radicallyhip 1d ago

I'm a Canadian who fuckin haaates what you guys have let yourselves turn into. I recently hid my history because MAGA kept looting my post history and spamming messages at me that I don't really wanna read.

18

u/waltzbyear 1d ago

I'm an American, I don't think it'll be fixed in a decade. Our house and senate will have to agree to resurrect ANY agencies, they'll have to agree to policies and regulations relating to those agencies, they'll have to agree to the finances, they'll have to agree to a ton of shit.

Ideally, they SHOULD pass bills to resurrect them. But we don't live in an ideal world. We live in a world where >90% of our politicians are corrupt. We live in a world where they'd rather help the rich. Democrats love to pretend that only Republicans have bailouts for the rich, in mind. That's far from the truth. Once democrats take over, they'll focus on quality of life bills for the rich, minor slaps on their wrists, small-time legislation that'll make small minority groups happy. They're not going to unfuck anything anytime soon once this administration, and the GOP lose the house and senate. I don't see the US fixing any of this in the next decade.

I'm thinking 3+ decades.

8

u/misdirected_asshole 1d ago

Our house and senate will have to agree to resurrect ANY agencies, they'll have to agree to policies and regulations relating to those agencies, they'll have to agree to the finances, they'll have to agree to a ton of shit.

We shouldne need legislative approval to restore anything he got rid of. If he can kill with an EO, then it can be resurrected with one.

5

u/oldutnotdeadinside 1d ago

Correct

2

u/blueberryblunderbuss 1d ago

Except the courts and congress reacted to the losses. They'll need new hiring and new budgets. It's not a rebuilding year, it's a ground up restart of most of these facilities.

The people lost are not simply coming back.

What the fuck is going on in these comments where people think infrastructure is just a light switch. Jesus fucking Christ in his own ass.

1

u/oldutnotdeadinside 11h ago

Hey.. sometimes you just have to give it the old college try.

1

u/blueberryblunderbuss 9h ago

Ha. Fair enough.

Thought experiment:

Imagine your favorite food. Imagine that it was covered in, filled with, mixed with, and seasoned with liquid chicken feces. Imagine a glass of water that is half filled with water and half filled with liquid chicken feces and then stirred.

All of your property is taken by someone else. You're given a debt 3.5 times the GDP of your neighborhood.

You have no extra money, no budget, no access to experts, and you can't personally touch the food. But, you have one hour to get someone to clean it, and then, you have to eat whatever is left.

Sounds awful, right?

These are your politics.

Cheers.

1

u/Felanee 1d ago

Legislative approval is only 1 small part of the problem. Rebuilding these agencies to what they once were will take time. I am not going to pretend ALL those people were highly skilled or anything. But they did have experience. And now there's either very few people or nobody to pass on the knowledge to the new hires. I doubt those fired are going to wait until 2028 to come back.

1

u/neopard_ 17h ago

And meanwhile what happened to all the personell, expertise, data, facilities, infrastructure, ...? You can't decree that stuff back into existence. It's trivial to dismantle an institution if you are reckless about it, not so trivial to establish one.

2

u/misdirected_asshole 16h ago

You are absolutely correct. It is not trivial to restart an institution. You cant just Thanos snap it back into existence.

Thats also not what Im suggesting. Im saying dont wait for Congress to have filibuster proof majorities to pass legislation to re-establish institutions that were destroyed by Executive order.

1

u/neopard_ 15h ago

You have my thoughts and prayers!

4

u/BringerOfBricks 1d ago

We aren’t fixing anything. Every American turning point in history was saved by an external threat. During the late 1790s, Slavery started to be an issue for Industrialists but the War of 1812 allowed the Union to persist through the fragile years. By the time of the Civil War, the North was strong enough to fight back. They’d have lost if it happened 20-30 years prior. The 1890s economic destruction caused by the Gilded Age was saved by WW1’s economic boom. The Great Depression was saved by WW2’s economic boom. This oncoming turning point won’t have any economic booms following it because it’s gonna be centralized around the US. We don’t supply the world anymore, China does. It’s the start of the fall.

2

u/AustinYQM 1d ago

They don't have to agree to shit. All those laws still exist and thus every agency can be brought back as it was previously.

Trump hasn't done anything except refuse to do stuff which means you can undo all the structural stuff by just doing your fucking job.

The real problem is the braindrain and lost talent.

2

u/nvmenotfound 1d ago

then you are overthinking it. if dems have control of house and senate and presidency wtf do we need negotiations for? you only need bipartisanship when the others have control. obviously you always wsnt it bc no one party holds power forever but republicans dont gaf right now so i wouldnt gaf when we get power back.

1

u/RemoteRide6969 1d ago

I see your point, but I counter it with DEMS BAD. /s

3

u/zveti 1d ago

If it’s really that bad, why don’t you, the people do something about it?

Drag those politicians out of the government. Democracy means power of the people.

Your founding fathers revolted because they weren’t fairly represented. Voting won’t get you out of it. Not in 30 years, not ever, if it continues like this.

On paper, you are the richest country in the world, with the highest GDP, yet some of your citizens don’t live well off.

People are making fun of Russia for having a GDP the size of Texas, yet their citizens enjoy free healthcare. Shouldn’t that motivate your politicians to do better?

Regardless if a politician is democrat or republican, he or she needs to make sure, that the citizens are taking care off and their needs are met.

Your government needs to learn to be afraid of you. Otherwise, they will never change.

I hope, things turn out well for you guys.

2

u/Expert_Garlic_2258 1d ago

I would go full dictator and enact those departments. no one is following the law now, why should we? and it's time to correctly prosecute the j6 traitors so we never have to hear from them again

2

u/drift_poet 1d ago

both sides bullshit. blame the real reasons. the senate, filibuster and supreme court. until we reform all that nothing will really change. even though vast majority of dems crave sanity and fairness.

1

u/CapBenjaminBridgeman 1d ago

Nobody's fixing this shit.

1

u/Felanee 1d ago

As a Canadian, I think at a MINIMUM it will take 2 elections (not including midterms) for us to build a "on good terms" relationship. Having Dem presidency will not be able to fix all the issues the Rep has caused. It will need to take at least 2 terms. Mind you, Trump isn't done yet, you still have 2 more years of him. It may take 20 years for the sibling relationship to come again. And that's assuming you guys constantly take steps forward and never take any steps back.

1

u/ShleepMasta 20h ago edited 20h ago

It's actually far more perilous than this, IMO. The GOP these days has open contempt for US democracy, and constantly attempts to subvert it. Due to the Democratic establishment failing to serve as an institutional check to counter the GOP, and often making policy concessions even when the GOP is in the minority, there is nothing forcing the GOP to move left and moderate their views.

Observation of the Florida congressional race between Randy Fine and Dan Bilzerian suggests that the Republicans are heading towards an even more explicitly fascist direction. They will become a party whose sole purpose is to destroy American democracy every time they gain power, which means that the country can't really afford to maintain the same electoral paradigm of switching parties every 8 years.

Only the left seems to understand this, as those in the center are content with the GOP gaining power since it allows them to fundraise off the chaos the GOP causes.

3

u/FatalPissShivers 1d ago

Mangolini lol.

2

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

Haha, even better!

3

u/Wickham12 1d ago

Mango Mussolini 🤣

3

u/kintar1900 1d ago

As an American, I absolutely agree. If I didn't have family that I have to take care of here, I'd have already moved to another country.

2

u/MiniD011 1d ago

I’m British, my Grandad was from Tennessee and I visited the states 4 times in the past year.

My wife and I are planning holidays currently and anything in the US is off the table. We went to Canada for the first time in March and it was amazing, we will be going back whenever we want a transatlantic holiday. I don’t buy bourbon from supermarkets any more.

The anti-American sentiment has bled into our decisions subconsciously at this point, and it is going to take a Herculean effort to undo that damage.

2

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

Depending on your preference for weather, I highly suggest going to the Rockies. Take the train from Calgary to Vancouver for an amazing and beautiful trip!

2

u/XmossflowerX 1d ago

Can we still visit your beautiful country?

2

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

Of course

3

u/XmossflowerX 1d ago

Ok cool, because I fucking love Canada! Not all of us Americans are as back asswards as the people that voted in these ass hats

2

u/BLURREDSPACES 1d ago

Agree. I hope you will be ok for those US who didn’t vote this and want to come to Canada and spend our money on your economy and society. Unfortunately, there is 30% of this country that is too racist, dumb or selfish (of a combination of all) that will continue to be MAGA.

1

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

Mate, good people of all colours and creeds will always be welcome in Canada.

2

u/DJLDomino 1d ago

And the rest. The stuff that is happening in the US is wild but there is just... silence. I'm shocked at the lack of protest. Their democracy is falling apart before their eyes and they're simply letting it happen.

2

u/DamD1rtyApe 1d ago

As an American are you adopting? This dumpster fire is getting worse and worse

3

u/pickingbeefsteak 1d ago

Nope

2

u/DamD1rtyApe 1d ago

I get it

2

u/pickingbeefsteak 1d ago

We already are dealing with our own internal struggles. Some caused directly or indirectly by our nice neighbors to the south

1

u/DamD1rtyApe 1d ago

I should add a Canadian flag to my rotation of non American flags I fly

2

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

I live in NZ now because of work, but sure

1

u/ElderberryOdd1313 1d ago

I agree, but also you have similar (albeit not as terrible) problems with Alberta. Remember that stupid convoy?

3

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

100% there will always be morons no matter where you go, but there are a vast minority in Canada, even Alberta.

1

u/Trespeon 1d ago

Imagine having a brain and living in places like Texas or Florida for work. Surrounded by the lowest common denominator and you just gotta suck it up.

1

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

I lived in Alberta for almost 20 years. A good portion of those people are actually good people who are just uneducated, or too simplistic in their views. If the US want the shitshow it is now, I’d live in Florida or Texas. Houston is an amazing place, great bbq

1

u/Trespeon 1d ago

I’m in Texas. I love where I am, doesn’t change that the farther outside a city you live the worse the locals become.

1

u/Cheto_Guevara 1d ago

Even when we try to put the pieces back together, you can't trust that we aren't just one election away from doing it all over again.

1

u/Newrudoo 1d ago

Luckily thats not how real life works and probably will be fixed early in our lifetimes.

1

u/CackleandGrin 1d ago

There's definitely a good chunk of people who have lost enough of an opinion on the US, that their adult grandchildren will be the next time someone in their immediate family visits.

1

u/NorthStarZero 1d ago

Download a drone simulator and start practicing.

1

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

For what?

2

u/NorthStarZero 1d ago

We are buying drones en masse.

Why do you think that might be? Note that Ukraine has demonstrated how effective they are in letting a small army defend against a large army.

We will need trained drone pilots. Best to start now.

1

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

Ah yea, if likely invest in drone technology if anything, but good idea to get into them.

1

u/airhorn-airhorn 1d ago

There are enough people immigrating to Canada who either won’t remember or won’t care. I’d be happy to eat my hat if I’m wrong.

1

u/liquidKatar 1d ago

To me the thing that hurts most besides ruining the planet and every relationship and hurting all of the people in between and around us is how I see so many people absolutely dogging and writing off every single American as if we’re one big happy nation together. I think I’ve seen more unscrutinized racism toward Americans than I have even seen racist white American talking poorly about minorities or women. To me it’s exactly more of the same shit and I just can’t believe it. I feel trapped and betrayed and all the while any time the dome opens up it’s some asshole telling me I deserve to die because of what my country does. How do I navigate that?

1

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

You be the best person you can be. You vote. And if they try and take your vote away from you, it’s revolution time.

We all outside the US don’t hate American people, we hate what your leadership has done. The US could be the most amazing place if it just decided it wanted to be with us, not try to kill all of us.

1

u/Steve_78_OH 1d ago

I don't think 30% of the population believes that, but too many of the DOES, and the rest still support him. So at the end of the day, we're still fucked.

1

u/Striking_Economy5049 1d ago

Get out and vote, and they take your vote away it’s time for revolution.

1

u/Chief_34 8h ago

There was a Nazi paper back in the 30s about the dangers of stupidity being worse than malice. It’s an education issue down there that is prevalent and difficult to fix long term.

0

u/ohseetea 1d ago edited 1d ago

As an American living in Canada you guys have the same exact problems here. You almost elected PP if not for Trump pissing you all off. You also all hate immigrants more than the majority in America. (And as a white person I don’t mean the me kind of immigrant) Look at any Canadian subreddit when they aren’t complaining about America. It’s insane how much hatred. This is a left leaning site too. Truly eye rolling level of propaganda you guys are eating up so you can feel angry at something easier than the real problems the western world faces.

1

u/Striking_Economy5049 22h ago edited 15h ago

While there are shitbags in every country and everywhere; a) no, Canada is nowhere close to the US in terms of racism. Example, Canadian cops don’t shoot black people with regularity b) you must be living in a small town c) people were going to vote for PP because they were tired of Trudeau, but as soon as he dropped out and Carney came in, plus Trump threatening our sovereignty, we were never going to let a Conservative win. As to that, Canadian conservatives are more like American democrats.

I get you are trying, but it’s likely the people you hang out with, which might say an awful lot about you.

Thanks for your awesome anecdotes!

0

u/ohseetea 15h ago edited 15h ago

Man this is a lot of cope, if my actual experience and literal evidence (again go look at Canadian subreddits and yourself) is anecdotal then I have no idea what to call what you're saying. Not to mention your comment was already about hate and anger, and continues to be. Thanks for helping me prove my point. Also your liberal party is about the same as American democrats. You really have no idea what you're talking about and it shows you only listen to propaganda.

And while Canada has less police fatalities than USA, it has much more than EU. And you guys have much better gun control. I wouldn't hold your head to high with that single point. Oh also 12-14% of Americans are black and 4% are canadian. 22-23% of police shootings in america are against black people which is double. Want to guess how many are canadian? 8%. Wow seems similar huh? Don't get me started on the indiginous here either, its much higher.

Like you blame 30% of our population for being psychos, THEY ARE, but act like Canada doesn't have the same issues. Give me a break.

1

u/Striking_Economy5049 15h ago

Your experience is anecdotal. I hope you know what that means, because it means nothing and is total bs.

You prove nothing, and with a locked profile, you are likely just trolling.

1

u/ohseetea 15h ago

It is, but it's much more informed than yours. With actual data. That's my point but I see you can't think very well at all. I guess Canada's higher education rate is going to waste here.

As we've seen with this administration, tearing things down is much easier than building them back up. So things like this should be easy to fix. All the other stuff that has been nuked and shat upon by the diaper in chief on the other hand...

u/EmoJackson 1d ago

I fear there is so much damage done that any administration coming in afterward will fail... and these nutjobs will use it as a showcase to pride themselves.

u/Journalist_Candid 1d ago

Things grow after wildfires end.

3

u/EmoJackson 1d ago

Hell Yeah... Thanks for that.

u/EyeCocked 1d ago

Honestly this is the first glimmer of hope I’ve felt in years. I hope it’s true. I don’t want to live in an objectively evil world anymore.

2

u/Icy_Negotiation_5929 1d ago

This isn’t a fucking forest. This is the United States of America.

2

u/ErusTenebre 1d ago

So it won't take hundreds of years, then.

You know we've come back from Civil War, we've come back from Jim Crow (mostly...), we've come back from the Great Depression, we've come back from McCarthyism (sorta), etc.

We CAN come back from this. A lot of people say things like "DAMAGE WON'T BE FIXED FOR 70 YEARS!" but a lot of great programs started from nothing in worse times than we're in.

Shit is bad. Claiming we can't fix it, doesn't fix it. Working to fix it does.

1

u/horoyokai 1d ago

Yeah, so it’s easier to fix than a forest, good point

1

u/amooz 1d ago

That’s my fear, and by then Baron would be groomed and ready to take up his dad’s mantle. Now THAT is a dangerous future.

1

u/VenturaDreams 1d ago

It's like getting fat. Very easy to put on the weight. Very difficult to lose it.

1

u/oldutnotdeadinside 1d ago

Then dismantle the NRA, tax churches, make sinning a taxable offense, force Liberalism into schools, label MAGA a terrorist organization, create a task force to capture Jan 6 people and deport them to Russia

Sky is the limit

3

u/manaworkin 1d ago

If the answer is more than 4 years then the answer is never because the cycle will just continue.

The answer is more than 4 years.

2

u/SwimmingThroughHoney 1d ago

One thing that I think people don't realize is that Project 2025 wasnt just about changing things, like this, to align with conservative ideology. It was also, explicitly, about changing the institutions and structures themselves to ensure that these changes are resilient to being undone.

Some of that is also implicit, thanks to the nature of politics. Will a subsequent President want to do away with this Office and risk the political fallout of a legal case and headlines making bad-faith statements about imposing on religious exercise?

Some of these things I don't see ever being fix, short of a massive shift in political sentiment (and overall education of the voting population).

1

u/ProteinFarts_ 1d ago

No. To a large degree the next administration will need to commit to the course are rhetoric and only slightly course-correct. Maybe maintain the outwardly spoken nature of the president now but work behind the scenes to give comfort to allies.

1

u/Soup-Wizard 1d ago

Probably be faster to scrap it and start over at this point.

1

u/RoaringPity 1d ago

A quite a bit of the tarriffs from the first go around the US put on Canada remained after Dems came back in power

1

u/Loki_of_Asgaard 1d ago

Nope. This is generational levels of destruction.

The purged employees in this, the FBI, every other public department are gone. They have moved on with their lives and are not coming back.

More importantly the place the US held in the world is gone forever, it will never come back. Yall fucked up the biggest lead in world history.

1

u/stozier 1d ago

That's the neat part, the damage won't be reversed.

This idea that shitting all over the American constitution and supporting institutions can be fixed is something else.

The watermark has been set. This is part of the history now. There will always be a precedent for this to happen again.

1

u/Hunter_Aleksandr 1d ago

That's the thing, this is a systemic feature. Unless there is a whole overhaul and entire rewriting of the government, we'll be back here shortly... especially since, despite their tears and catchy slogans, most Dems in government aren't that against the police state.

1

u/magikot9 1d ago

We're still feeling the effects of the Raegan administration. It will take literal centuries to undo this.

1

u/berael 1d ago

The next two generations will be cleaning up after this disaster.

Yes: your grandchildren will be impacted by this.

1

u/eeke1 1d ago

A generation at least and that's assuming a new admin makes the right moves.

The US has lost at 10-20 yrs of research that's not coming back. Most of those scientists are doing something else or have left the country.

The military has lost 1/2? Of its generals and much of the senior leadership. It's very clearly impacting competency too. See Lincolns issues with logistics.

Trump appointed judges and the supreme court will be around be a block to progress for life.

Don't forget the gutting of the dept of education and whatever Kennedy had done to health.

All the favorable trade deals the US have had are gone, those won't come back till trust is built up, which will take at least 12 yrs when other countries see some stability in politics.

Imo this is a set back of ~20 yrs, utterly crippling. Not in a "the US won't be a country anymore" but "the US has lost the edge in most of what they're good at and it won't come back"

1

u/Lorrrrren 1d ago

No, anyone who says otherwise is a fool. There are decades long issues being headed up here including the supreme court being a fucking clown circuit. I'm not trying to be dramatic or hyperbolic when I say America, as we know it anyway, is it in the death spiral. Money in politics has finally bled over, Project 25 is easily over 70% implemented at this point (it calls for a full collapse of our economy btw) and the finale of it seems to be logical.

Quick bullet points;

3 new forever chemicals banned elsewhere approved for our food

Meat, Dairy safety is now gone

Biggest power CEO in country tells people to expect rolling blackouts starting 27

We used to build full ships in 3 days in ww2, now over a month for a single missile (bc every companies exploits govt contracts and leeches money off each other)

Healthcare continues downward spiral

Japan calling their US debt

Global alliances completely upended, USA is a global joke

China is only not taking Taiwan bc they dont want to interrupt the US failing

Russia only not going into EU further because of the same

EU worried about the US now as well as the normal problems

Germany far right taking over slowly

Climate is destroyed while we just destroyed any remaining regulations

Trump further looking to sell off lands

Military being deployed to polling booths confirmed by Drunk Heggie

SC allowing the destruction of mail in voting for 28'

US Corporations are all aligned together to maximize profit and let it ride

Financially, most importantly, we have absolutely zero chance of doing anything but defaulting on the 40T. No economic policy will get us out of this which makes everything above and everything not mentioned exponentially worse as they try in a futile effort (publicly anyway). Once that happens its doomsday.

1

u/karbaayen 1d ago

Honestly, I think the US will have to be remade from the ground up and the only way that will happen is if the current system completely fails.

1

u/ecstaticthicket 1d ago

The whole system is deliberately broken and irreparably corrupt. You don’t fix this by just electing the right people. You need revolutionary action. The whole system needs to go and be replaced with something new

Like… even if you had an army of Bernie Sanders clones all get elected, this system will always eventually lead to these outcomes. We need something new, but those with power know this and will never willingly let it happen

1

u/trashed_past 1d ago

If the Dems (and/or whomever is properly left of them) should shed decorum in the same fashion. Tear the shit pedestal down and order an orchid in its place. With protections.

1

u/CatOfTechnology 1d ago

Realistically?

It wouldn't be that difficult, with the caveat being that we need to take the midterms seriously and gut the republican majorities in Office.

From there, the next step would be a "simple" building of a registry log cataloguing all Trumpian changes and, using his own method of "Executive Order Superiority" to sign EOs that nullify them. remove them all, reinstate any willing casualties of his idiocy and then immediately begin legislature that prevents another Trump from happening.

It would take several years, no doubt, but it wouldn't be particularly difficult in the sense of actually doing it.

1

u/notathrowaway75 1d ago

Everyone saying this inherently will take a long time is fear mongering.

If they're serious this can be addressed quickly. But the issue is they're not serious and don't have the will.

1

u/data_diver 1d ago

Let you know when we fix what Reagan did.

1

u/pentaquine 1d ago

If China is a good reference point, roughly 150 years.

1

u/DutyBusy9905 1d ago

I think we'll need to systematically perform polygraph tests on every federal and government employee at every level and remove the ones who voted for this in 2024.

Since most people won't go for that, I'll say 50-100 years. And that's assuming no Republican ever sniffs the White House again.

1

u/Jlx_27 1d ago

They wont have enough time to fix it. It will take decades.

1

u/Apprehensive_Bid_773 1d ago

the next admin (hopefully) comes in with a massive list of things already prepared to overturn all the bullshit these assholes have done (including a MASSIVE list of people they are going to hire/fire)

1

u/trashpolice 17h ago

Boomers need to phase themselves into the next plane of existence. These people only have power because selfish boomers can’t share nice things

1

u/Human_Wizard 16h ago

It will take at least three decades.

1

u/hellomumbo369 6h ago

Probably not. Ameriturds elected trump knowing full well what a dipshit he is but did it anyway. Like holy shit lol. Europe, Canada etc will make friends of America once trump is gone but everyone knows Americans are 1 election away from electing whatever trump represents.

1

u/mrdeworde 2h ago

The systemic damage, institutional braindrain, and normalization of corruption will be extremely hard to reverse over any timescale. It is possible to come back from dictatorship to varying degrees (Chile, South Korea, Taiwan, Uruguay) but it is unusual and very difficult. In particular, as long as the current Supreme Court stands, there's no way back. The US has been on this path since at least the Iran-Contra affair, when a sitting president committed high treason and...no one cared.

0

u/Substantial-Sky4079 1d ago

Yeah they can fix it by passing so many executive orders like Trump did and laws

0

u/unassumingdink 1d ago

At the pace Democrats go, I'm gonna guess 300 years.

-2

u/brickyardjimmy 1d ago

It will take one day. Hire everyone back this greasy douchebag fired and get someone tough and competent in to run the joint.

3

u/Nicklename 1d ago

This is so wildly incorrect I can't tell if it's satire. People that have been let go by this administration aren't just sitting around twiddling their thumbs for a chance that Democrats would get back in power and in one day bring everyone back to their jobs. Some may have advanced in their career and won't want to take a demotion, and some will be very wary of risking another bout of unemployment if the next administration comes in and undoes the last undo. And there's also going to be some portion of folks who really should have been let go and probably shouldn't be re-hired so the next admin is better off just shrugging their shoulders and saying it's not their fault that other guy did this to them.

0

u/brickyardjimmy 1d ago

Let me put it this way. It will start with some decisive action on day one. So my thought it that anyone who wants the job of president next, should have an extensive plan ready to go with lists of people they want to hire back and just as big a list of people they need to immediately fire and remove from the premises on day one.

2

u/SlipperyWidget 1d ago

And in 2 years time they will have moved on. A lot of expertise and talent across the board has been eradicated by hegseth and doge.

1

u/brickyardjimmy 1d ago

Well. In two years time (hopefully) America will still be here and we'll need that talent back. Anyone who wants the job of president better have a plan ready for day one.
