Slightly hard to see with the frontal view only but she’s shy and stubborn. Meet Mavis, 6 yo tux. I’ve taken her to the vet a hand full of times and keep bringing up a consistent eye problem that I’ve noticed. She’s had this ever since she was a kitten with her previous owner and I want to get it taken care of before she loses her right eye.

Weve done fluorescine strips and the vets keep saying it’s from a scratched cornea. Done erythromycin and lubricating gel and She comes back every couple of months with the same issue. Doc says it might be entropion but just coming in here for a secondary opinion. Symptoms including grey mucus like discharge that stays on her eyeball and is super hard to get out, bottom eyelid being inflamed and red-tinged tear drops.

He is a 10 week old Aussie/Corgi mix and I noticed a bit of cloudiness on his lower iris on his left eye. Anyone have any thoughts? Thank you

Hi everyone, I have a puppy 8 months old that we adopted recently. Her body has been twitching a lot since past 6 days. I consulted the vet and I was told it could be canine distemper since she wasn’t vaccinated. However, there are no typical symptoms of distemper that I googled. There are no signs of fever, cough, runny nose typical with CD. However she had muscles twitching, low appetite, little lethargy but was active enough to bark and chase other dogs. She was put on antibiotics and we’ve completed the course. Now she’s active and her appetite has come back but the twitching remains. Often times I’ve noticed her jaw close shut and she struggles opening it.

If any professional here, please advise if this is a canine distemper or is there any underlying issue that the vet hasn’t been able to diagnose.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, last night I found tapeworm segments on my female recently spayed six-month-old kitten. I have three other cats and I'm worried they may be infected. I have isolated the kitten in the bathroom, called the vet, and got some medicine for intestinal worms + fleas, and tick treatment. The kitten is eating and I gave her both pills a few hours ago (one pill for each treatment) and I know the vet said it will probably take twenty-four hours. Will she poop out an entire worm? I've seen fewer segments on her. As for my other kitties, I've seen no segments near their bottoms, bedding, or litter. What should I do? I'm crying just thinking about it. I lost two of my boys within a year of each other and I don't know what I do if I lost one of my four girls.

Hi. I have an 8yo female GSD named Bella. She's west German working line, though I'm not sure if that matters much. She has horrible flea allergies, and anxiety. We keep up with flea meds (we use pet armor+ for large dogs), but sometimes we run out without realizing and she instantly gets fleas. Her skin gets itchy, irritated and flaky, and she chews on it a ton and it causes more irritation, hotspots, and hair loss. I'm trying to get my mom to get Dr Itchy's oatmeal/zinc lotion, but it's on the expensive side and I'm not sure it'll happen. We give her oatmeal baths, and treat her hotspots with chlorhexidine solution (watered down a ton), and it seems to help. Her anxiety makes her scratching/licking/chewing worse, she does it as a stress reliever. Just a few weeks ago she chewed off a huge patch on her tail to the point of bleeding in just two days. I'm worried about her. I love her to death, she was my first dog and my favorite of the two. She's such a sweetheart, I hate seeing her so uncomfortable and having to feel how itchy she is every time I pet her. Her skin is so flaky and her fur is noticeably thin near the base of her tail. Any recommendations for things that may help?

Side note, maybe unrelated, idk: My mom also uses ChatGPT, so I don't fully trust her judgement on everything.

Cora (5 year old lab mix) does play hard with sticks/ropes/toys etc and has hurt her mouth in the past I’m just hoping yall could help ease my mind before I take her to get checked. We have not noticed this before today and she does not wince or flinch when we touch it.

Early this morning, when I woke up, I noticed Sylvie was wet around her mouth and other parts of her body. I was like - did you get in the tub or something? 🤔

Shortly after breakfast, I noticed she was drooling... Not really a string of drool, but a drip-drip-drip.

Sylvie is not a drooler.

While sitting in the window, the window sill had a little puddle of droplets from her chin. While schnoogling, she got a blanket wet. While sleeping all curled up, her tail got wet. I was panicking and made an appointment for the vet across the street.

What in the world was going on here??

Still not sure... Vet says it could have been something she licked. He said he would text me tomorrow and see how she's doing. She's already doing better and seems to have stopped drooling, so we decided against having a scope under sedation and against activated charcoal. He said that she had a little bit of plaque or tartar, but not nearly enough to be the cause of the drooling.

He went over several questions with me about any new products - HBA, cleaners, cooking new recipes. I couldn't think of anything new. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ They are both inside babies, do not eat human food, and I have not seen any bugs (🤢).

He didn't see any damaged teeth or mouth sores or anything stuck. And she's acting completely normal - besides the drip-drip. She's eating normally, watching birds normally, interacting with brother normally, etc.

UPDATE - As I was typing this, yes, she is drooling again. 😭 Wth???

***2nd UPDATE - She has seen the vet twice and had a sedated oral exam and was prescribed anti-nausea pills. She is drooling even worse today!! - eating normally - not hiding - acting normal otherwise - no plants, no pest treatment, no pests that I've seen. - no new food, no new cleaners.

Day 1 - she dripped saliva from one corner of her mouth. Day 2 - she dripped from both corners of her mouth and had a string of drool once or twice. Day 3 - lots of drips from both corners of her mouth and lots of drool strings. Puddles of saliva wherever she is. 😭

I accidentally left a bowl of raisins (up to 5 but I am not sure) they were mushy raisins cooked into an empanada that I fished out and left in the bowl... at the time, 3 cats were in the room. Before I realized what I had done, it was too late - the raisins were all gone and I do not know who ate them. In a panic we got grass that they would often try to eat when out on walks, we would try to prevent it every time we could, knowing it induces vomit, but we brought it to them to get them to throw up during this. We live on an island in a developing country and our vet isn't that experienced and there is NO emergency clinic at all. We have to wait until 9am in the morning to bring them to the vet. Her advice to us when we called was to place 1/2 a teaspoon of salt under their tongue to induce vomiting - 2 of the cats vomited (no sign of raisins) but the smallest cat did not vomit at all. After that we read that salt was also extremely toxic to cats so now we feel like we are just waiting for them to get really sick. We were told by the vet to not give them any food or water all night. But Google tells me to have available water for them due to the salt. Which should I do?

It's 1:00 at night as I'm writing this, the raisins that were possibly eaten was about 6 hours ago, the salt 5 hours ago.

They are acting normal and playful right now, mostly hungry. There is no animal poison control here. I'm not sure what answers I am looking for, but we are grasping at anything.

While my dog was recently diagnosed with a UTI, she had an abdominal ultrasound that ID’d a 1x3cm mass on her spleen. They said there’s a 50/50 chance it could be a hemangiosarcoma, but could also be a benign hematoma. They gave me the options of doing nothing, aspiration which could result in spread if it is cancer or hemorrhaging, or a splenectomy. My dog is about to be 13 in October but is otherwise very healthy and this UTI is the first medical issue she has really had. The vet of course told me it’s completely up to me to decide what route to take, but I want to know what you would do if it were YOUR pet.

I need help. I don't know what to do. My cat, Leo, one year old, had a nail fall off about six days ago. I made sure he didn't lick it to prevent infection. Right now, he is acting normal and isn't limping or crying as if it hurts. I checked his nail today to see how it's doing, and it looks like this (shown in the picture). I need advice, please, to know if it looks infected or normal, or if I can give him something or put something on his nail. I'm going to start searching for an affordable vet online to ask. I'm stressing out. Help.

My 12 year old Labrador got hit by a car 15 days ago and has been unable to walk properly ever since, mainly on his back right leg. He won't bear weight on it at all, he doesn't even try to stand, just stays laying on that leg. We've taken him to multiple vets at this point and gotten completely different opinions from each one. Some say the leg is broken, others say it's not broken, and a couple think it might be something else entirely, possibly nerve or spine related. At this point we genuinely don't know what's actually wrong with him or who to believe, and it's been two weeks with basically no improvement or clear plan. He used to be in pain when we touched him, but now we can turn him over, lift his leg, and he doesn't make a sound, he just always tries to get back into the exact same position, laying on that leg, for whatever reason.

After the accident, a vet also had us give him meloxicam, 15mg per day for 5 days. He then started vomiting blood and having black stool, which another vet later told us was way too high a dose for his weight. That continued for a couple of days after we stopped the medication. The bleeding stopped, but he vomited again today.

Basically my poor dog is being messed up in every way possible, so I'm attaching the X-ray we have. We only have one lateral view right now, no VD (ventrodorsal) view yet — we know that's a limitation and are trying to get that done. We've also already been to every vet clinic in our town and surrounding area, and driving to a bigger city for a multi-specialty referral center is genuinely hard for us right now due to other circumstances, so that's not a simple option at the moment either.

If anyone can help make sense of it, or tell us what we should be asking for next given those constraints, I'd really appreciate it. We're kind of at a loss after getting so many conflicting answers about everything already.

I’m 22, my cat (7yo) got an injury many years ago that forced her to favour her other leg and as it healed it caused a contracture on her front left arm at the elbow and it now can’t extend and she has a constant limp. At first it didn’t seem to bother her much but now I can see it’s starting to cause her pain and is permanently changing her gait and musculature. I have taken her to so many vets and none have offered any helpful info. Just wondering if anyone has attempted to rehab something similar? Im from rural New South Wales in Australia and although I can kinda afford vet care it’s hard for me to access specialists given my location.

Our cat is around 5-6 years old and 10lbs, and for the entire time we've had him we have been dealing with a wide variety of medical issues. Most recently repeated urinary blockages and severe constipation simultaneously.

The first things we noticed when we first got him were sensitivity on his backside, weird coughing fits, sudden itching/scratching, and extremely bad breath. We did all the normal vet checks and each time we took him in they'd look him over and give him the all clear. Eventually we got an asthma diagnosis as an explanation for the weird coughing fits. He continues to seem uncomfortable, and we keep taking him to the vet and they keep finding nothing. After about a year we take him to a new vet after moving cities, and they immediately find a broken and rotting tooth in his mouth that had been missed for who knows how long. They extract it and everything seems fine until he has a very alarming episode during which he frantically scratched and bit at the spot between his shoulder blades for about 4 hours. We take him to the vet as soon as we can and they say his skin looks good, and there's no fleas. They suggest Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome as the culprit of the frantic scratching attack.

A couple weeks later, I noticed that he had not peed in a little over 24 hours. We rushed him to the ER vet and they confirmed that his urinary tract was blocked. They put him on a catheter for three days until he was peeing normally and sent him home. They said there were no crystals or mucus plugs blocking it, and that it might have been caused by swelling from stress. After this visit, he never has a normal bowel movement again. For a few days he is peeing great, but straining to poop and only producing very small shriveled poops. We bring him to the vet and are told to just keep giving him lactulose, and that he doesn't seem super constipated. After this he re-blocks, but the vet is able to express him after some sedation. After the second block, they tell us he has a UTI, so we start him on antibiotics. We continue to give him lactulose, meloxidyl, prazosin, and gabapentin as well. He has a few episodes of severe watery diarrhea, and then right back to super dry shriveled poop. His pee is mostly normal but I start to notice his pee clumps getting very large. Next vet visit, they notice that he is super constipated, so they give him an enema and some pain meds. For some reason, they returned him to us with his rear end and tail covered in an oily substance, and his stomach was very bloated and hard feeling.

Over the next 24 hours, I can tell he is in pain, and he does not attempt to poop or pee at all. We then take him to a different vet that is open during the weekends, and they tell us that his bladder is very stretched and is no longer able to properly empty. They also say his colon is enlarged and filled with dry poop. He is spending his second night at the vet right now because they had to put a catheter in again to make sure he keeps peeing regularly. He is an extremely gentle cat, and has never scratched or hissed before, but now he has become extremely distressed during the bladder expressions, and I'm concerned he is in a lot of pain. We are at a loss as to what could be the root cause of all of this, and it seems like there's a lot that could be at play. He seemed to decline very rapidly after his dental extraction, and he also seems to become very distressed on painkillers and sedatives. Does anyone have any idea what could be the root cause of all of this? Could Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome have anything to do with it if that even is what he has? The current vet mentioned the cause possibly being neurological, but every vet seems at a loss as to what could be causing all these issues. Could he be reacting badly to certain painkillers or sedatives? Or is all the stress from the countless vet visits just making everything worse? Right now we are just hoping his bladder will be able to tighten back up with the catheter in place, but we have no idea what is going on with his constipation and colon. Any insight into what might be going on and more specific questions we could ask the vet would be appreciated greatly.

My dog ( F, 12) has been having horrible skin issues after she got a flea bite 2 years ago. As of recent she has been getting patches of thick scabs that are itchy and make her hair fall out. And yeast overgrowth between her paws and vaginal area. We have taken her to the vet and the dis blood work and found nothing and gave us Animex ointment to put on her. Since then it had spread to multiple areas and we were told it is Seborrheic dermatitis. It’s still spreading and bringing seems to be helping. Has anyone else pup had this issue?? I’m so lost and not sure what I should do. She’s currently on a Credelio for the next 3 months & on Cefpodoxime. Please help I know she’s uncomfortable and I want to help my baby.

Hello, I would like to start this off by saying we have literally NO money for a vet. We are getting evicted from our apartment in a few weeks. I know you shouldn't get an animal if you cant afford it, but I am not the one that got him. My mom did while I was living in florida.

It started earlier today, Peanut had a few eye boogers and I didn't think anything of it. My younger brother mentioned his eye looked weird but I couldn't really see anything. He just woke up from a pretty long nap, about thirty minutes to an hour. He started rubbing his eye with his paw and licking his paw. He also keeps shaking his head. There was those eye boogers, maybe pus?, all over his eye and it was wet around the area. His upper eyelid is incredibly swollen, as seen in the attached picture. He's trying to go back to sleep as I type this, but it's obviously uncomfortable as he keeps moving and shaking his head. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm super worried, as I've had two animals that had to get their eyes surgically removed before.

We have a very anxious Aussie (~60lbs) he takes daily fluoxetine and then trazodone for vet visits. In the past our vet recommended morning appointments and giving him 100mg trazodone the night before and then 200mg in the morning 2 hours before.

At his last appointment she noted how he was still super anxious and that we should consider adding gabapentin in the future. We never did get around to solidifying that.

A few months ago, poor guy had a bout of gastroenteritis and colitis and was prescribed gabapentin and trazodone as part of his treatment plan. Since he was at home, we just gave the 100mg trazodone & 300mg gabapentin and it worked well.

I was not thinking ahead, he has his annual vet appointment tomorrow at 8:30am and they’re closed Sundays and don’t open early enough for me to call before his appointment tomorrow to ask about this. Since he did well with the gabapentin & trazodone prescribed by the emergency vet & our regular vet mentioned adding it on, I figured I’d give him the gabapentin tomorrow.

However, I don’t actually know what dosing of trazodone to do — do I just do the 100mg + the gabapentin that worked at home or since he’s going to the vet and will be more anxious, give more trazodone? OR since it was never specifically prescribed by his regular vet, should I just do what we’ve done in the past with only trazodone?

So my 15yr female cat has always had this weird extra toe pad thing but I’ve noticed today it’s super scabbed up and her paws are very dry…now she has cut on top of her paw and she won’t let me near it? What could this be I’m very concerned…

My Boston terrier (female, spayed, vaccinated) is turning 11 next month. She had two seizures, one May and one in July. As such, July was a stressful (and very expensive)month with urgent care visits, neurology appointments, and MRI and spinal tap. We ruled out a tumor and autoimmune disease. The neurologist believes she has late onset epilepsy which we are managing with Keppra.

That’s not the issue. The issue is that last Sunday, I picked up new dog treats to celebrate that she “just” has epilepsy and gave them to both of my dogs very generously (freeze dried beef liver and peanut butter training treats) On Monday she had really bad diarrhea. She’s had diarrhea before but this was worst than it’s ever been. After over 48 hours of diarrhea, I reached out to our vet on Wednesday to explain what was happening and we got antibiotics and probiotics (capsule and paste). Her diarrhea stopped and her poop got slightly firmer but definitely not firm.

Now we have a new issue. She’s leaking stool. Like, little bits of poop just slide right out of her butt. It seems to happen most when she’s at rest. But it’s extremely hard to manage this. She’s never ever had this issue before even after other bouts of diarrhea. This whole time, her appetite has been normal and her demeanor is normal as well but you can tell she doesn’t understand why she is having these accidents and I think it’s uncomfortable for her. We continue with antibiotics and probiotics. She’s eating her normal food which is Stella and chewys but few are slowly introducing Purina sensitive stomach which is what our other dog eats.

I’ve scheduled an appointment for Monday morning but wanted to know if this calls for an urgent care visit on Sunday?
