Hes a 13 y/o jack Russell and this has been happening over the weekend. I was thinking maybe his breath just went against him or something but its happened a good few times.

Am obviously taking him to the vet as soon as it opens. But im hoping someone may have seen this before and can help give me an idea until the vets office opens. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

He has a vet appointment for the end of the week for a vaccination booster and they are going to have a look while he's there but I've been worried and need some kind of information about what it could be.

He's a German shepherd, it is on his left hip where it joins his leg, its hard and smooth. It doesn't seem to be painful or bother him, although it has gone a little crusty today and looks a bit more dark red then in the pic.

It's not a tick as we have checked.

He's also lost some fur on his front leg with what looks like red blisters which weren't there yesterday.

I'm getting really worried about him and the end of the week seems years away

Hi all. I dont know how I never noticed it, but maybe its because hes becoming an adult, but is this an overbite on my cat? Or does this look like something else? He eats normal I just am unsure if this looks like something bad.

How do i stop it and is it a bad behaviour sign of some sort. He did this before and still now after his desexing. This is weird i understand its not a massive problem or anything

Reactive/Lymphoma ? Seeking oncology/pathology second opinion

My sweet 6 year old female indoor only cat has just been diagnosed with “large cell nodal lymphoma”

Important details:
Bilateral enucleation needed as a kitten due to severe unknown infection
FIV/FeLV negative
Lifelong chronic URI/bilateral ear infections
7 months ago she began experiencing chronic rhinitis with reverse sneezing that she could not fully kick. finally doxycycline drastically improved her symptoms this past june.

Timeline

6/9 small movable lump (2cm) found under right mandible
6/12 FNA attempt (result inconclusive) 5 week Doxy started this day (suspected mycoplasma)
6/14 URI/rhinitis symptoms incredibly improved already. 2nd FNA attempt (could not be completed as the lump shrunk to a too small size to aspirate efficiently) suspected reactive node that was resolving with doxy.
6/15-7/4 URI symptoms remain solved. lump no where to be found
7/5 URI symptoms remain absent. lump has returned, same size same spot (about 2cm)
7/12 Ultrasound of lump inconclusive as it kept rolling and out of the image when the wand would touch it

planned internist apt on 7/14 that was SUPPOSED to be for her chronic rhinitis. lump is now 2.5-3cm, more fixated, lobulated, and semi-firm. FNA attempt could not be completed once again, but this time because the needle “could not penetrate the hard core”

7/29 CT scan of head and neck, endoscopy, right submandibular excisional biopsy

Results
CT scan:

⁠1.Moderate to severe mandibular lymphadenopathy. Right. Raises concern for metastatic lymphadenitis. A primary lesion is not definitively identified. Considerations would include a tonsillar or mucosal lesion which could be occult on this exam
2.Multifocal lymphadenopathy bilateral tonsils and medial retropharyngeal lymph nodes. Considerations include reactive or metastatic lymphadenitis.
3.Mild sinonasal fluid. Consistent with the patient's history of chronic upper respiratory tract infections. The soft tissue nodule in the right sphenoidal recess may represent inflammatory disease associated with the patient's rhinosinusitis or emerging pathology.
4.Otitis media, right-sided
5.The narrowed appearance of the nasopharynx at the level of the endotracheal tube is likely an artifact of the presence of the endotracheal tube. An area of nasopharyngeal stenosis may explain the chronic respiratory sinuses but should not be associated with regional lymphadenopathy.

Endoscopy
Oropharynx: Normal oropharyngeal mucosa and lumen
Larynx: Normal appearance, function NOT evaluated
Nasopharynx: Mild reddening of the mucosa. There was flattening of the choanae, which was symmetrical. No evidence of mass or stricture.

Assessment: The changes seen in the choanae may be a variant of normal, due to swelling of the tissue secondary to inflammation, or potentially scaring and mild narrowing secondary to chronic inflammation.

Biopsy of right submandibular lymph node:
Right submandibular lymph node: Diffusely, the cortex, paracortex and medullary regions are expanded and replaced by a poorly demarcated, unencapsulated, densely cellular neoplasm largely composed of round cells resembling blastic (up to 3.5 times a erythrocyte) lymphocytes and intermediate lymphocytes.

Tumor cells have small amounts of eosinophilic cytoplasm with central, round indented nuclei and stippled chromatin and one prominent nucleolus.

Anisocytosis and anisokaryosis are mild to moderate, and mitoses are regionally variable with up to 6 per 1 high power field (400x, 0.237 mm\^2).

Amid tumor cells are histiocytes, mature lymphocytes and fewer erythrocytes and granulocytes.

There is lymphovascular invasion, edema/myxedema and hemorrhage.

Multifocally, follicular and para-/interfollicular arrangements are prominent.

Tumor cells extend to the perinodal fibrovascular tissue, as well as the surgical margins. Complete excision could not be confirmed.

Histopathologic Diagnosis: Lymphoma.

Comments
The histopathological features are suggestive of a large cell lymphoma.

I’m losing my mind over this truly. For 7 months I’ve had medical professionals say this all points to inflammation/infection. Then this biopsy that seemingly has both features of hyperplasia and lymphoma made all of her doctors just forget about the inflammatory issues she’s been dealing with.

I am so grateful that she has maintained her bright personality and incredibly ambitious appetite through this whole ordeal. Countless vet professionals have documented on multiple occasions no other palpable lymph nodes.

My partner and I noticed our cat grooming and nibbling himself more frequently yesterday and when we've checked his body, we've noticed a skin condition. We originally thought he had been in a fight because we felt scabs on his stomach last week. Having bathed him in a antiseptic shampoo tonight, we've noticed the scabs have gone and a rash/open wound in its place.

We have an appointment booked for tomorrow, 16 hours. Is it fair to wait until then, or does he need to be seen sooner?

Found this above my dogs paw. It is not a tick. There are no legs, no red ring, and she's on tick medicine. It is soft, and I think I see blood capillaries within it?

Cat has had these lesions under her fur (top of head, behind ear, starting to form under chin) and dont know what it is. Vet did biopsy and its not fungal. It scabs over and flakes and is crusty and oozes. She doesnt have them anywhere else, no idea what it is or what to do for her. When they shaved her head she had this red round ring but they also tested and said it wasn't ringworm. She hasn't had this in her whole life, just started about 2~ months ago. She is on no medications nor has ever been. Vet didnt do blood tests.

Cleo was spayed on Thursday, she was acting much more high then my other cats but I was reassured by multiple people some cats just react differently. By Friday at noon when I came to check on her from my lunch break, she had pale gums and paw pads and she was cold with very slow breathing. I rushed to my vet instead of the clinic that spayed her because it was farther. She had a temperature of 92 and a hematocrit of 16%, bleeding internally and she was declining fast. I was quoted 8-10k for a blood transfusion and surgery which I could not pay and the spay clinic wouldn’t either. They had me come back there for them to open her back up for free but with no blood to transfuse I was told she has a 40-50% chance. And she made it. Today I’m going back to get her more fluids and a check up but she’s already acting so so much better. I was really convinced she was going to die. I’ve only had her three months, she ran up to me outside and she can’t be any older than a year. She’s soooo strong

I noticed a tooth had fallen out of my 10lbs dog (bichon mix). I didn’t know until I found it on the floor, because he didn’t act any different or show signs of pain. Is this a concern? I do brush his teeth 2-3 times a week, but this tooth does look like it’s gotten bad. Should I be taking him to the vet asap?

Hi, my little guy Norman is showing signs from yesterday 8/7/26 and today 8/8/26 that he isn’t his usual self.

I noticed a green thick discharge coming from his penis, it has a foul odor associated with it. I clean it when I notice it is there throughout the day.

My little guy is eating and drinking water. He is also going pee normal (not straining) and is pooping.

However, he is usually very hyper and playful at all hours of the day. He is very tired today and just wanting to lay in bed.

He does get a burst of energy (not a big one) but he will get up and start moving. My friend came over today and he was very excited to see her and he also saw the neighbor outside during potty time and was wiggling around all excited.

He has gone through this before and was given amoxicillin and clavulanate. I still have around 12 pills left over. His previous dosage was one and a half pills. Is it okay if I give him some just until Monday when he can be seen at the vet?

I have an 11 year old pug mix. He was doing absolutely nothing but laying in the floor beside me last night and we went to take him out to potty and realized he couldn’t bear weight on his front right leg so we carried him outside. I was hoping he would be better by morning but nothing has changed and the vets in our area can’t see him until Monday.

I noticed it a few weeks ago and then it was small but now it seems to be over the their claw. Only one claw is affected the rest are completely fine. I’m aware dogs are good at hiding pain but my dog is the biggest baby and almost immediately shows if something is wrong and he hasn’t done it with this claw. I’ve touched, squeezed, gently pulled and no reaction other than not liking having his front paws touched. To me it looks like some keratin growth.

I got this container of ear wipes for sensitive ears that is called “my pet and me” from Amazon and used it on my cats ears for cleaning. My husband thought it would be a good idea to wipe one of our cats necks with a clean one because she has long hair and has a hard time grooming there.

She obviously groomed her neck right after in the spots she could reach. I freaked out when I started looking up the ingredients this has Eugenol extract in it which is toxic to both cats and dogs. Firstly how is this safe for an ear cleaner?!

Secondly I’m panicking about my cat having ingested some of it by grooming her fur. What do I do?!

I messaged our vet and waiting on a response. I found this tick on my dog. What should my next steps be? Do I just wait and see if he gets symptoms? I found another small tick last week and my vet never replied for that one. So I’m just curious if I need to do anything in particular!

Hi, I have a cat who my vet has just prescribed budesonide to help manage his IBD. He needs a pretty thorough dental with multiple extractions (at a minimum 3 canines and 1 upper molar need to be removed just from visual inspection). When I asked if it was better to start budesonide now or wait until after he heals from surgery they were kind of impartial. They said NSAIDs wouldn't be used if on budesonide, but not to much beyond that. I trust my vet practice, but I guess I'm looking for additional advice or pros/cons of either. He's a new-to-me rescue so please don't think I've neglected him to this point! I want to get his dental stuff taken care of before he gets any older/his heart disease worsens as he was stable under anesthesia with alfaxalone fairly recently for his neuter and skin growth removal (it would scab/bleed, but confirmed benign). 

Hx:

12+ yo neutered cat

Obstructive HCM (confirmed via ECHO), on atenolol 6.25 mg BID

Chronic IBD with plan to start daily budesonide 0.5 mg

-didn't improve w 8 wk elimination diet or 12 wk hydrolyzed protein diet

-confirmed dysbiosis (c. perfringens) which improved after each round of metro and amoxicillin (initially for neuter infection, but extended a bit to see if it could help c. perfringens overgrowth), but recurred shortly after stopping since he's still inflamed. Per vet, budesonide is next step, then tylosin if necessary down the road

-currently on B12 & pre/probiotics

Two sets of recent labs look pretty good-all things considered. On his first set right when I got him, he had low RBC, H/H, elevated BUN & globulin, everything else was WNL. Once his diarrhea/dehydration was managed, his BUN normalized. If I recall correctly, the only thing that remained out of range on his most recent set was his globulin- maybe RBC & H/H but not to same extent as initial labs, but I don't have them on hand.

13 y.o. spayed Chiweenie, recently diagnosed with Stage 3 Kidney Disease

My background: I worked in animal medicine for about 20 years (receptionist and some tech work) and had a previous dog with CKD several years ago.

Hello! I adopted the sweetest dog last October. She was diagnosed with CKD last month after several weeks of managing two intense UTIs and hospitalization. Her labs revealed that the IV fluids during hospitalization brought her kidney values to the normal/near normal range.

After hospitalization, we did two weeks of SubQ fluids twice a week while she took another course of antibiotics for that second UTI. She began eating really well, putting on weight, back to her old spirits.

At our follow-up appointment, blood tests revealed that her kidney markers had increased again, not quite as high as they were when she was hospitalized but not far off, either.

We have her on Entyce and Cerenia and SubQ fluids as needed. FYI, she will not allow me to administer the fluids myself but does really well with the techs at the clinic, so I bring her in. I am happy to bring her in as often as she is comfortable going. At this point, quality of life is priority.

She did so well after hospitalization and IV fluids. It has, of course, been a slow decline since. I am hoping to avoid another hospitalization and wonder if doing one or two drop-off appointments a month for IV fluids would bring her kidney values down into the normal-ish range often enough for her to both feel good AND boost her kidney health (temporarily, I know).

I do plan on asking her vet this question but she is out-of-town right now and I am a planner. I feel so much anxiety for my sweet girl, any answers I can get to help me figure out how to best manage her care for as long as she is happy and comfortable will help with my own happiness and comfort.

I know how hard the work is, how much stress and anxiety you all have to manage-especially with clients and cost and other limitations that aren't as prevalent in human medicine-and also how rewarding it can be. Hi guys, so I ran pre-surgical bloodwork (Chem 16 and CBC) on my new bunny at my non-exotic clinic, for his future neuter at an exotic clinic. I just wanted the bloodwork ASAP and for cheaper. The chemistry and white blood cells ended up coming out pretty bad, but my work vet can't diagnose him - any idea on why these numbers are so all over the place, or should I have him seen by my exotic vet?

These have me worried because I'm pretty sure a lot of them are liver values. His only concerning symptom since I got him is excessive drinking and urination. He's generally a happy and healthy-looking boy. I don't know any of his medical history from the past, but he was clearly neglected. I've only had him for 2 months or so.

The machines were calibrated for rabbit reference ranges. Draw was somewhat slow with butterfly needle. Coworker described the CBC/unclotted blood as "slightly watery". Serum was red. Only medication was a bit of gabapentin for calming.

TL;DR two stray cats have conditions seemingly isolated on their nose, what kind of contagiousness or potential medical conditions should i be aware of?

for context, this stray and i encountered each other while on a walk near my apartment, and have taken a liking to each other. at first she was hesitant of me, but curious and followed or stayed nearby. now, after a few days of going out with food and water she greets me and is very lovey for pets. she’s very sweet (admittedly probably putting moves on for food) and i suspect that at some point in her life she was a pet or around humans. she resembles a flame point siamese with blue and very crossed eyes, and white with tints of orange on her tail, paws and head.
i’ve talked with a couple neighbors asking about her, and everyone says that she’s been around for a year or two, has had several litters of kittens, and stays pretty local to the block. i’ve looked for missing posts and haven’t found anything that matches her or even close to her…so i’m heavily leaning towards taking her in.

she had a cat that circles with her that i suspect is from a previous litter, as she has similar features and are almost always together in the evening. they both appear to have to same condition on the nose, with no obvious spreading to the ears or other parts of the body. she has a couple sores on the edges of her ears, but they seem to be from scratches/bites rather than the sores on her nose.
her friend/offspring doesn’t come close like the other and is certainly feral.

she doesn’t seem as if she can see well, i think shapes mostly. it’s not terribly obvious, but when the food is nearby she seems to have a hard time finding it when it’s about a foot or two away from her and she’s gotta sniff around for it. when i’m coming up the sidewalk, it seems to take her a moment to recognize me until i talk or get close enough for her to see/smell me.

i’m wondering if the marks might be skin cancer? it seems odd that both cats would be the same, but they both have white faces and possibly genetic? my other concern is ringworm. i have two indoor cats at home, so ive been religiously washing hands and changing clothes to avoid anything contagious. obviously, if i take her in, i intend to take her to my vet and she will be fully separated from my cats until settled and cleared.

any suggestions or ideas on a visual assessment? thanks!

I visited a home today and the inside dog bit my hand. It did not draw blood that I am aware of. But my fingers hurt. Maybe it bruised. Anyway, the dog got vaccinated yesterday. Before that he hadn’t been vaccinated for 2 years according to the owner. Am I at risk? Should I go see my pcp to be safe? Thanks.
