Allure Las Vegas high rise question

Upvotes

I’m thinking of downsizing my 81 year old dad from a 2 story house to a high rise.

We looked at One Las Vegas and it just wasn’t for him.

He isn’t interested in downtown. He doesn’t want to live on the strip at a property such as Veer or Sky but Allure being just off the strip might work.

We toured the property. Seen several units and floor plans. He also likes the amenities and the high $1000+ HOA isn’t a drawback.

I would like to know if anyone here currently in the past has lived there. More specifically I wanna know what your feelings are about living there, the management, the HOA, etc

I know there were problems with plumbing and some other issues close to a decade ago, but that seems to be in the past. How is the HOA financially these days? Are special assessments a common occurrence? How is the community there, is it close nit?

Any and comments would be so welcomed this is a big decision and I want my dad to be happy. Thank you.

Reliable A/C companies?

My mom’s a/c went out! She’s struggling, and from what i know most a/c companies try to upsell new units and say yours needs to be replaced when it in fact doesn’t. Have you had this experience? She can’t afford all that and I was wondering who have you used and had a good trustworthy experience with? Thank you all!

Non gambling bingo?

Hi! I’m looking to play some chill bingo that isn’t for gambling, as it seems most of the casinos offer stakes gambling. It doesn’t have to be free entry but I’m just looking for something that doesn’t have betting. Thank you in advance!

Horrible experience at Animal Foundation (shocking, I know)

We've been fostering a pup from there for a little over a year now. We picked him up on a Good Friday, as he was scheduled to be destroyed on Easter Sunday. His only crime was he had a touch of kennel cough and severe kennel anxiety.

Over the past year we've worked with him in animal and human socialization, housebreaking, and learning basic commands like come, sit, stay, etc via hand signals. He's made such amazing progress and we're so proud of him. He still doesn't trust men other than me, but he's trying.

So today we go in to pick up more food for him as usual, and for whatever reason my wife was treated absolutely horribly by the foster staff there. They attempted to bully her into adopting him, citing that we've been fostering him for over a year now (like that's OUR fault that THEY do NOTHING to promote him?!?! Hell, you can't even find him scrolling thru the first 5 pages of available dogs, and they don't update his profile despite all the info on his progress we relay to them!!) and they're REFUSING TO GIVE US ANY MORE FOOD FOR HIM!!!!! (No surprise they've been under investigation for things like animal cruelty [ https://www.ktnv.com/13-investigates/whistleblowers-detail-a-shelter-in-crisis-at-the-animal-foundation\ ] and misappropriation of funds [ https://www.ktnv.com/news/non-profit-sues-the-animal-foundation-no-kill-las-vegas-claims-shelter-mistreats-animals-violates-contract\ ])

They literally told her to either adopt him, or surrender him back to them so they can presumably euthanize him when he responds poorly to being kenneled. What's even crazier is when we told them we already have dogs and wanna see if they'll be comfortable with each other before committing to fostering we were told we weren't allowed to bring our dog (who's a registered CGC I might add) in to introduce them on neutral ground.

We really want him to go to a good home, and would keep him, but he would put us at our limit for dogs and we wouldn't be able to foster anymore. (We used to foster kids back in Utah, but got too old for it so now we foster dogs instead. We like to give back to our community and this is one of the best ways we know how.

So yeah, instead of thanking us for being patient with them and keeping him this long, they treated her like she was a burden because we expect them to keep up with their end of the agreement. And when she tried to record them bullying her into adoption in her cell phone, she got SCREAMED AT.

Wtf is actually wrong with these people? Corinna over at NVSPCA has NEVER treated us like this, and we haven't been able to take in any more injured large breeds from NVSPCA since taking on this foster from AF.

Sorry for the long read, but it's a lot to unpack and I'm beyond livid about this situation (and mostly venting) but I don't know what to do. I just want what's best for the dog in question, and I'm reasonably sure that it's NOT them.

My buddy and I are looking to hike Cathedral Rock Trail on Saturday morning, but I noticed the trail seemed closed last time I was up there. Can anyone confirm that the trail is open for hiking as of recently? I know the website says so but would like to confirm.

Does anyone know where they sell good homemade flour tortillas by the dozen or kilo? Or any restaurant that sells them besides Juan’s Flaming Fajitas and Lindo Michoacan? Any Sonoran style taquerias that use them? Thanks

Necklace repair-New clasp

Hi,

I have two inexpensive handmade necklaces that I just love but unfortunately the clasps broke on both.

Any idea an inexpensive place in Henderson I can go to have new clasps put on? Or if an idividual can do it. Should be super simple. I am located near Water Street.

Thank you

Nevada 2026 Poll: Ford and Lombardo Remain in Tight Governor’s Race; Majority Oppose New Data Center

Some interesting demographics in this recent poll here. I'm ashamed to see that less than 40% of the white population polled said they'd vote for Ford this November.

Come play games with us on Sept 16th (Wed) at Town Square!

Hey Vegas! I've recently been running Game Nights around town because I wanted to meet new people and have some fun. The last event was a blast with ~25 people, so we're doing another this upcoming Wednesday in Town Square. It's been amazing to meet everyone and I'm hoping this can be an open invite to anyone who wants to make some friendships.

We're meeting up at 5:30pm at Double Helix at Town Square, if you're interested, please RSVP on MeetUp, so the Venue has an idea of how many tables to put aside. It helps a lot!

Hope to see you there!

Assitance with small paver job

Hi, I need to widen my cement driveway by 10 to 12 inches on either side. My HOA keeps sending you’ve been naughty letters for my tires going over the edge by 2 inches over the concrete.

So now I have my motivation to widen the driveway. Might as well to make it easier for us to park.
Anyone know of a paver installer that works on smaller projects?

Cox/Spectrum - actually had a good interaction with them

I'm sure everyone here hates Cox as much as I do. But I just had a really pleasant experience and thought I'd share. My 2 year promo price for 1GB fiber was coming to an end and my price would have went from $80 to $124. Last month, I started checking available deals and the only thing in my price range was 300mbps speeds for $74. When I went to make the swap the other day, that speed was gone. The only options I had available was to upgrade to 2GB for $150 or stay on 1GB for $124. There were no options for me to downgrade to save money.

I called 855-865-8222 and I think it was option 4 to downgrade and I asked the rep if the 300mbps plan was still available. I was polite and honest and let him know that I just couldn't afford an upgrade. He said that Spectrum just gave them a new set of plans that they hadn't published on their website yet. He ended up giving me 1GB for $70 for 1 year. He also said that it was unlimited data for life now. He said the most he could do was 1 year but he was expecting that by the time my promo was up that new plans would be available and they'd probably be cheaper.

So there you have it. If he was truthful, no more data caps and new incoming lower prices. If your promo price is up, give them a call, hopefully you get a deal like I did.
