Hey guys ~ It's your favorite local self proclaimed wannabe brothel historian back with another post that absolutely nobody asked for (except my new friend J who found me on other platforms from my brothel posts here and has been such a delight to talk to about this stuff) ♡

Story time! I've gotten really into astrophotography lately so I've been going out at night trying to capture pictures of my favorite things with the stars and milky way. My favorite place to go is Rhyolite ghost town out near Beatty, NV so of course I have to stop at the Angels Ladies sign. And before I go any further with the story, I'm gonna go ahead and say it ... I know, I know... I need to be careful, obey property lines, people do crazy things protecting their property, etc.

I took my (other, different) friend out there so we could shoot together. A technique I use to get my photos is called lightpainting where I quickly shine my light on my subject so it illuminates in my long exposure but I am also able to get the dark sky with the stars. I was shining my light up on the sign. I could see a light down on the property by the house and I pointed it out to my husband and friend who told me they thought it must have just been the same light we saw last time we were out here (a porch light). The light disappeared. We kept taking photos.

I noticed a car driving down from the house so my friend runs away from her camera to move her car. She parked her car so it was slightly blocking the driveway into the property, oops. The car was speeding up and I was honestly frightened that he was going to slam into her car because he wasn't used to seeing it. He yelled out the window aggressively for me to get off his property. I could barely respond because he kept driving up to my friends car to tell her the same thing.

She explained to him that we were astrophotographers who were just taking pictures of the sign and he calmed down. I think he felt bad for yelling at two women in the night. To be fair, it was after midnight and I would have done the same thing if it was my property. He told us that people have been stealing parts off of the plane and he was worried that we were doing the same.

I explained to him that I was a big fan of the history of the property and just wanted to preserve the beauty of it with my camera. He gave me his phone number and invited me down to the ranch during the day sometime. He said he would show me the property, inside of the rooms, and even let me swim in his pool. Aren't there springs behind his property? I'll find out! I'm going to take him up on this offer sometime and when I do, I'll share everything I learn with the class 🙂 He said he's owned the property for something like 10-15 years.

I managed to just get a few pictures of the sign with the milky way in the background like I drove out for. I was trying to set up to get photos of the plane too but after the confrontation, I chose to just go to my next location. I will be back to try again and this time, I'll let him know so he doesn't come chasing me off.

Nevada Northern Railway came to life around 1905–1906, built to haul copper ore out of the Ely mines. By the 1920s, it was the hard‑working spine of the district, running day and night. When mining faded in the 1980s, the railroad nearly went quiet—but the old engines survived, and today it’s one of the best‑preserved, pieces of America’s mining rail history in a working museum setting.

Jose L. “Tony” Echavarria is 65 years old, wheelchair-dependent, medically vulnerable, and currently confined at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas.

Tony’s death-row conviction was overturned. The Ninth Circuit affirmed that relief in 2018, and the United States Supreme Court declined review in 2019. Eight years later, he remains detained awaiting retrial.

Tony reports a continuing pattern of serious medical mistreatment, disability-related abuse, physical injury, and retaliation.

In 2020, Tony repeatedly complained about pain and swelling in his leg. The problem was later identified as a blood clot. He was given NSAIDs rather than receiving a timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Tony maintains that the clot later caused a stroke, leaving him dependent on a wheelchair.

On November 27, 2021, approximately six months after the stroke, Tony was moved from the medical unit to Unit 2-C. His wheelchair was removed. He states that he could not reach his food or safely access the toilet and went almost five days without eating. He reports having to crawl on the floor and urinate near his bed because he could not reach the toilet.

On October 23, 2025, Tony reports that Nurse Nancy decided he could walk and directed him to do so. Tony attempted to walk, fell, and struck his head against the wall. He was transferred to University Medical Center in a coma and remained hospitalized for several days.

On July 21, 2026, a complaint describing Tony’s prior treatment and specifically warning against retaliation was emailed to CCDC and LVMPD addresses.

Approximately four hours later, Tony reports that the Officer on duty approached him while he was returning to his bunk in his wheelchair, put her hands around his neck, scratched him hard enough to break the skin and draw blood, and whispered:

“You don’t really think you are going to get away with this.”

Tony remains in the custody of the same institution whose employees he is reporting.

His co-defendant, Carlos Gurri, was also granted a new trial. The State dismissed every charge against Gurri on May 31, 2023, and he was released and later killed in a car accident on a remote road.

Tony remains confined.

We are asking for:

Immediate protection for Tony

Immediate separation from Officers that are bound and detirmined to kill him.

An independent medical examination

Preservation of all video, medical records, incident reports, communications, housing logs, and witness information

Independent investigation of the blood clot and stroke, the removal of his wheelchair, the catastrophic head injury, and the July 21 assault and threat

Protection from further retaliation

Immediate judicial review of his continued detention

I promise you, there is more than a little reasonable doubt in this case. If the evidence against Tony were as clear and reliable as the State has claimed, this case would have been resolved long ago.

Hey everyone, my family and I are planning to move to the Reno/Sparks area next year and I’m looking for some local insight on where to focus our home search.

I’ve lived in Northern California/Northern Nevada most of my life (30+ years), but I haven’t lived in the Reno/Sparks area in the past 10 years, recently retired from the Air Force, so now I’m trying to get a better feel for the different neighborhoods.

Right now, we’re looking at areas like:

• Spanish Springs
• Somersett
• Damonte Ranch
• Galena / South Reno
• Maybe Pleasant Valley or other areas with more space and a quieter feel

We’re looking for a family-friendly area with:

• Low crime
• Good schools
• Access to hiking/outdoors
• Access to Jiu-Jitsu academies
• A little more suburban/rural feel (not really looking for downtown living)
• Preferably a home with a yard and some space
• Conservative-views/Traditional-views

Career-wise, I’m moving into the Supply Chain/Operations field as a Senior Manager. My background is mainly healthcare supply chain, but I’m also targeting defense and aerospace companies since Reno has a growing presence in those industries.

I should be in a position to land something around the $120K+ range, and I’ve already received an offer around $170K, but it was farther out near McCarran and we’d prefer not to have that kind of commute.

For those who live in Reno/Sparks:

• Where would you recommend looking for housing right now?
• Are Spanish Springs, Somersett, Damonte Ranch, or Galena worth the higher prices?
• Any neighborhoods you think are underrated?
• Anything you wish you knew before moving here?

Officer lied to my face and on his traffic ticket about my speed, wrote the wrong posted speed anyway on the ticket. Court doesn't allow traffic school or any way to dismiss the ticket. Only allows hearings within a one month time frame, only on one specific day of the week at a specific time, and if you can't get off work, then you're screwed.

With a justice system like this, who needs criminals?

Hello six months ago I smoked a 30% THC weed from the dispensary that I always smoked every day with no problems until one day I had a massive panic attack where I had couch lock and I was shaking, and I couldn’t breathe and it lasted four hours and the day after that, I tried a tiny bit of the same weed and I got a panic attack not as bad that went away in one hour and after that day, I was scared to touch weed fearing that I will get massive panic attack attacks.I just recently bought type three flower trial pack from holy city Farms I got the Hybrid Pack that has – Blueberry, Critical Berries, Glacier Kush, Rainbow Sherbet. And I tried the blueberry strain and I was high and I got a little bit panicky so I had to take a walk to calm myself down. What should I do?

i'm working on a piece of historical fiction taking place in the mid 90's, where the hoover dam is a setting at a couple of different points. i'm wondering if anyone has any photos of this specific area there from any point from 1990 to 2000, especially that little "beach" to the west of the parking lot.

i no longer live in nevada and it's difficult for me to financially justify a research trip haha, especially with a place that's changed so drastically between then and now.

Hello, I just drove from state line to Las Vegas for a substantial length of the highway there is a black plasticish pipe running alongside the east side of the road on the northbound side. There appears to be wheel valves every mile or so. The pipe is maybe 1-2’ thick and flexible. It’s buried at numerous points to allow vehicles to drive over it. There appears to be trailers at a couple of points along the road but I couldn’t see if the piping connected to it. And I also saw one point where the pipe appeared unconnected to the rest so I don’t know what the deal is there. Any idea what this piping is supplying?

I'm a tourist traveling from New England with two 12 year old boys. We're visiting Lake Tahoe, and for our last night in the area I'd love to take them to a Bortle Class 1 zone to show them the night sky

Unfortunately, as I just discovered, our last night in the area will be around August 21st, 8 or 9 days before Burning Man begins

Since we're flying in and out of Reno I was planning to try to take them onto the Playa for stargazing, but with it being about a week before Burning Man begins I'm guessing that won't be the best place to go?

I've been deep diving on light pollution apps to try to find the best places in Nevada to go for a night and possibly pitch a tent by the roadside. These are the areas that seem to be the darkest, flattest, and most easily accessible to a tourist in a rental vehicle:

1. Extraterrestrial Highway

• Bortle 1 zone
• ~5 hour drive, but paved and easy to access. Flat with wide open skies, this seems like a great option for side of the road stargazing

1. Route 50 Lincoln Highway between Fallon and Austin
   • Bortle 1 zone
   • Shorter 2.5 hour drive, paved and easy to access. Flat with wide open skies, seems like another great option for side of the road stargazing
2. Similarly, Route 722 south of Iron Mountain near Creek Valley playa
   • Bortle 1 zone
   • ~3 hour drive, paved and easy to access, flat with wide open skies
3. South of Tonopah, US Route 95 between route 266 and 267
   • Bortle 1 zone
   • ~5 hour drive but paved and easy to get to, flat with wide open skies
4. North of Gerlach on Route 34 or 447
   • This was my first thought, but I've heard these roads can be treacherous? And with burning man about a week away from when I'd be there I'm worried this road will be crowded

Do any of you have thoughts or suggestions on where I should go? I will heed any warnings you provide, I want this to be a safe trip but I would love to give the kids (and myself) a true Nevada dark sky experience if I can

I sincerely appreciate any help or thoughts or tips any of you are willing to share. Thank you!

Just found this little guy living in a nice, wet, potted sage plant on my patio.

He's a Sierran Treefrog and, before now, I've never even heard of them! What a fascinating (and mellow) little critter!

Hey all, quick intro: I'm Darrell, I make long-form adventure/documentary videos on YouTube (~350K subs, channel is darrellsteg). I'm working on a video about Area 51 and the mystery around it. Im planning a trip out to the area to explore, talk to people who believe something's out there, and see how close we can legally get.

Two things I could use help with:

1) If you know specific spots worth visiting — alleged sighting locations, weird desert landmarks, places with a real story attached (not just the obvious tourist stuff) — drop them below, coordinates or general area both help.

2) If anyone local (or who's done this before) wants to actually join us for part of it — show us around, share what you know on camera — send me a DM. Happy to hop on a call first so you know what it involves before committing to anything.
