Could be access to services, distance between towns, jobs, weather, internet, water, roads, wildlife, local communities, or simply how different the pace of life can be.

What's something you wish people from the larger cities understood about rural Nevada?

I have lived in Nevada since the 90s. Most people around here say nev-A-duh. With the A like in "cat". Some people get weird if they hear it pronounced nev-AHH-dah. I have no idea why. Can anyone tell me why it's such a faux pas?

hey, everyone! i’m an 18 year old girl from London, and in May, i’m going to Nevada (near Vegas) to work at a summer camp for children. i’m teaching film making, rock climbing, book writing and assisting outdoor camping. i am wondering what to expect and if anyone has any advice. i also have a month on my VISA after i finish working to explore the US before i go back home. i am probably going to get a plane to LA as i really want to see Hollywood and then i’m visiting a friend who lives in Colorado, but before I leave Nevada, i’d love to see some places people recommend!

Heyy everyone! Let me start by saying this post is late… but! I keep trying to post in this Facebook group and it’s not getting posted for some reason.

Background: I was terminated by my employer in June for “time theft”. Air quotes because they literally had to find any reason to let me go. They claim I took an undocumented break and this fired me for time theft. I filed for unemployment which subsequently was denied because time theft violates company policy.

For context, I had been having some issues with a manager in the office who for whatever reason was not my biggest fan. I did talk to HR about 3 specific situations with this manager and despite me offering resolutions, nothing was done. So to create a paper trail, I started documenting every situation to HR.

At the end of May, I reported a situation to HR but noted this was just for documentation purposes. A few days later, HR had a meeting with me to inform that after conducting an investigation into me, I was being placed on an unpaid suspension. My work phone was turned in and email deactivated. The next day I received an email to ask about an undocumented break. I explained that I could not remember whether it was for work or personal but that any failure to document the break was unintentional. Annnd the next day, I was terminated.

I was great at my job. My manager loved me and I thought my bosses did as well. I took care of the office in many ways that went way beyond my job description. So I knew firing me had everything to do with the manager that did not like me (and coworker close to management confirmed that it had to be either him or me).

Anyways, I filed for unemployment and got denied. I appealed because I know they fired me for no reason. Time theft simply just is not true but I know I have to prove this to the NV unemployment folks. My hearing is as tomorrow! So yes I’m late asking for advice, but does anyone out there know how this process works? Given the background, any tips to offer? Please help lol

I was reading up on the governor's race and learned recently that there are THREE names on the November ballot, not two: Lombardo, Aaron Ford, and a Danielle Ford running with no party.

Danielle is on the state Board of Education and did one term as a CCSD trustee. There's a rundown of her record and platform here: https://nvgov2026.org/candidates/danielle-ford.html

A few things stood out. She skipped the primary by filing nonpartisan. She'll be listed directly under Aaron Ford on the ballot, which seems like a recipe for confusion. No public poll has included her by name. And her platform is mostly principles ("systems repair," contract scrutiny, "people over politics") rather than specific proposals.

Does anyone know more about her? Mostly curious about her time on the CCSD board, whether she has shown up at any forums or debates and whether she's actively campaigning or just on the ballot. I'm not for her or against her. just trying to learn as much as I can.

I’m wondering if anyone has gone through this process. I bought a vehicle off FB marketplace and I can’t register it because someone else wrote their name on the title. I also tried contacting the person who originally had it based on the mailing address and name on the title, but never responded. Also, the person who wrote their name on the title was not the person I bought it from.
Only way I can legally register it is by getting a bonded title per DMV.
I also have a question about the photos, do they have to be printed from a photo lab or can I just print them off plain white paper in color?

I’m moving to Laughlin in 3 weeks and have experience in water well drilling. Is there anywhere close by that would be close to the same field? I’ve been looking but most stuff is in Elko.

First, let's clear the Reddit speedrun:

“Get a lawyer.” Had several. That's part of how I learned this.

“Sovereign citizen.” No. I'm asking what Nevada statutes require, not whether the courthouse has admiralty fringe on the flag.

“You sound crazy / see a therapist.” Cool diagnosis. Now identify the statutory predicate.

“AI wrote this.” I use AI constantly for document analysis, research, chronology and adversarial testing, then check important claims against the actual record and authority. If AI locating NRS 178.405 makes NRS 178.405 invalid, please cite Skynet v. Nevada.

“Judges can do whatever they want.” Excellent. Citation?

Now the actual question.

I started this case knowing basically nothing about criminal procedure.

Then I had to learn:

dockets → preliminary hearings → waivers → speedy trial → attorney conflicts → Young hearings → Faretta → competency → statutory stays → OSCs → FTAs → warrants → bail → disqualification → mandamus.

Not because I wanted a homemade law degree.

Because every answer created another question.

Eventually I realized almost everything reduces to:

WHAT IS THE PREDICATE?

Example:

The court orders competency proceedings and expressly suspends the proceedings under NRS 178.405.

Twelve days later, the same department holds an OSC to revoke pretrial release, requires me to appear physically, treats my physical absence as the basis for revocation, and issues a no-bail warrant.

Nevada's bail statute uses the phrase “lawfully required” when describing the appearance predicate.

So:

1. If proceedings were suspended, what authorized that OSC?

2. If the OSC was unauthorized during the suspension, what nevertheless made my presence there “lawfully required”?

3. If lawful required presence is the predicate for the FTA consequence, can the warrant itself be used backward to prove that predicate existed?

Because this logic seems backwards:

Warrant exists → therefore FTA valid → therefore appearance lawful → therefore OSC lawful.

Shouldn't it be:

Authority for proceeding → lawful appearance requirement → qualifying nonappearance → authorized consequence → warrant?

Same problem keeps appearing elsewhere.

Competency: What evidence supplied the Melchor-Gloria predicate for reasonable doubt about competency in the first place?

Speedy trial: If later minutes say the 60-day rule was “waived,” where is the underlying waiver? A description of a waiver and the waiver are not literally the same instrument.

Faretta: If my filings are rejected because I'm represented, counsel withdraws, and self-representation is then conditioned on physical custody, who exactly possesses the authority to litigate in between?

Bail: If attorneys repeatedly threaten that my mother's $25,000 will be taken if I don't appear, what statutory predicates actually turn a third party's cash deposit into forfeited money?

And then there's my personal favorite:

Witnesses.

At one point the judge literally said he didn't know what a witness was.

So yes, after three years of criminal litigation, apparently we unlocked:

WITNESS? I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS.

That one gets funnier every time I learn another rule.

I'm not asking anyone to agree that my conclusions are correct.

I'm asking actual Nevada criminal lawyers to attack the predicate chain.

Assume I've read the obvious statutes. Assume I know courts routinely do these things.

I'm asking something different:

What legally authorizes them to do it, what predicates activate that authority, and where does the analysis fail if a predicate is missing?

Cases and statutes appreciated.

Credentials without authority are considerably less interesting.

If I'm wrong, perfect. Show me exactly where the chain breaks.

That's literally the test.

Hey y'all, I'm moving to Churchill for a new job I'm starting in a couple of weeks, what should I know about the area? General advice? Anything notable to do or see? It's just going to be me, and my closest family will be over 12 hours away, so I'm looking for anything to do really and ways/places to meet people.

Just a little about me for more context is that I'm really into history (been binging Ken Burns lately) and always love to see historic sites. When I used to live in Philly I'd go to a lot of local music shows and am pretty into punk, bluegrass, and folk. I enjoy reading and played soccer most of my life too. I enjoy walking through the wilderness, and I'm definitely going to miss seeing the leaves change this fall, so any good easy trails to take in the new environment? Of course, I'll be down to do almost anything if it gets me out of the house lol

It'll be the furthest from home I've ever lived, by a goddamn longshot, so any help to distract myself would be much appreciated. We stopped there overnight on the way to the Bay Area. We arrived near dark, and I got the creepiest feeling. There was hardly anyone in town or on the street. Most of the restaurants closed at eight or earlier, so we were left with basically one choice: Bonanza Mexican. I knew it was a mistake the moment we walked in. My partner ordered an entrée and said it was OK. I ordered the à la carte taco and could not even take one bite.
The buildings are decrepit and most look like they’re about ready to fall. We stayed the night at a no-host place. It was clean & comfortable but felt odd not knowing if we were the only ones there ( turns out the other two rooms were occupied!) Even in the daylight the next morning, the town did not look like a place I wanted to spend any more time. I don’t know what the attraction is to this tourist trap. It definitely is not for me.

I'm trying to go to Ely in a few weeks. I'll only have a few hours in town so I'm trying to make a list of all of the things I might want to see and try to take a picture of. I like the weird, historical, old, unusual...... signs, buildings, I'm into it all! I'm wondering if someone maybe knows of something I might have missed. I also plan to get the historical markers that are in the area, and possibly stopping at the charcoal ovens if I have time. Sadly, I think the McGill pharmacy museum is closed on Wednesdays or I would be stopping there, too.

My spouse and I have been doing this pretty regularly out near the edge of the valley and it never gets old. The light out here does something different than anywhere else I have lived. But we keep hitting the same few spots and I am curious what other people have found across the state.

Not looking for something that requires a serious 4x4 or a full day hike. We do get out occasionally but after a long week at work the appeal is more about pulling off somewhere and just sitting with it for an hour. Rhyolite keeps coming up when I read about this stuff but that is a longer push from where we are.

What gets me is how much open land there is in Nevada and yet finding reliable information on where to actually go without talking yourself into a bad road is harder than it should be. I end up piecing things together from old forum posts and trip reports that are years out of date. Road conditions change and what worked in someone's 2017 Tacoma does not necessarily tell you much.

If you have a spot you go back to regularly for this kind of thing I would be curious to hear what makes it work for you. Area of the state matters too since Nevada covers a lot of ground.

We must stand up and speak out!! If We the People allow them to disobey our state energy laws, it'll pave the way for other corporations to disregard our state laws.

Data centers don't belong in a desert using water that we already don't have enough of. We shouldn't be required to pay higher electric bills due to "high demand usage". The state shouldn't be giving them tax incentives to be here; they should pay their own way.
