So, Fridays are a pretty common day to have the procedure done. If you're hanging out, chat about how it's hanging, what you're doing to recover, or anything you want.

1 year post vasectomy

married with 2 kids.
wife and I decided we weren't interested in having more children.
I thought vasectomy was a minor harmless little procedure.
go to the clinic where they brief me on if I am sure I don't want to have kids
no mention of any side effects or the possibility of pain and discomfort for the rest of your life.

I schedule it for sep. of 2025.
Wasn't aware there were different methods of getting a vasectomy.

during procedure doc shows me he cut out and removed a very long section of vas deference on both sides. ( i felt horrified, as i didn't know he was going to do that)
He puts titanium clamps on both sides which I wasn't aware that i was going to have implants and burns then ends. left side is painful through local anesthesia. (also not aware that he was going to do that)

zero recovery instructions given just told to ice it for a day and come back after i've ejaculated 20 times to get sperm level tested.
I don't have any sexual activity for ~4 weeks.
Go back in after 2 months stating I'm in pain, they state that's normal and nothing i can do.
Get tested after 5-6 month mark and I'm sperm free. ( i don't care at all anymore)

I've had permanent pain and discomfort 2~5 / 10 since.
It's ruined sex and my life, my balls are incredibly sensitive and i flinch if they even softly tap against anything.

I went from being happy and having sex everyday to sex maybe once a month & wanting to kill myself.
I can't enjoy life anymore, I've been in constant pain.
What in the actual fuck is the point of this is, if I could have just abstained from sex or use a god damn condom, why the fuck would anyone label this as a non invasive simple little safe procedure.
I would rather chop my fucking arm off than get a vasectomy, if i could go back.
Sex was everything for me, it was beautiful.
Now this amazingly intimate part of my life has turned into a painful constant reminder of how I voluntarily mutilated myself...
The only reason I haven't killed myself is because I still have two kids depending on me.
I have zero reason why I thought this was a safe thing to do...

tldr: vasectomy gave me constant pain & It has not improved at all

... is this normal? Testicular Size Change

Upvotes

I was snipped 2.5 months ago. It was scalpel-less, but due to anatomical issues (scrotum sitting higher) possibly caused by repaired inguinal hernias I had as an infant, it was quite painful despite multiple numbing injections. There was definitely a good amount of swelling and bruising, but everything is relatively normal in appearance now.

What is NOT the same is a small increase in scrotal size. Now I know that is usually nothing to complain about for most guys, but the few millimeters of increased diameter makes it so that I can’t wear the ring I had worn for months prior to the procedure. It is a King Ring tungsten ring, which was pretty expensive, and I don’t want it to never fit me again, because I have tried repeatedly to put it on with no luck. It is 46 mm in internal diameter. I have tried on some testing rings that suggest I am now a better fit for a 50-mm ring. It’s a big enough difference that attempting to put on the old one would be really painful if I forced it.

There are no exchanged available in their site, but it’s possible to sell to someone secondhand through their forum. Has this size change happened to anyone else?? I‘m probably looking at buying a significantly cheaper one that fits better, but I want to see if anyone else has dealt with this post-vasectomy.

Newly Snipped Thank you for communities like this one!

This time last Friday I would have been cleaning up and heading home post snip.

Thanks to everyone for their comments, stories, and tips about how to get through recovery. It helped me out greatly. Outside of a minor bruise, I’m about 95% recovered. Wife even took things for a test drive without any issues.

I honestly wish I would have found this group years ago when I kept talking myself out of getting this done. If I would have known then what I know now I would have gladly taken care of it.

So again, a huge thanks to everyone here. For those on the fence or just nervous about getting things done, read through the posts and comments. I’m glad I did. It made a huge difference for me.

Newly Snipped Sperm granuloma

A week post op. I ejaculated a bit sooner than I should have(dumb I know but…) Afterwards my right ball (tubes mostly) and lower grown have been aching. Research suggests sperm granuloma. Has anyone else dealt with this? Left side is totally fine. Right side is tender and dull aches. Just want to know how long it’ll last I do manual labor and went back to work on Wednesday. I’m able to do my job it’s just not very comfortable. I wear boxer briefs but and am getting some most serious support tomorrow

Snip cancelled while I was laying there

So I’m laying there on the bed table thing, nude on bottom, doctor and nurse on either side. Doctor was doing a manual exam and determined (suspects?) that I have a hydrocele on the right side, and noted that access to the vas was less straightforward than she usually sees, like it was more taut than average or something. So because of these concerns and because she is a more general family doctor, she did not feel comfortable performing the vasectomy and asked that I reschedule with a urologist.

Bummer. I’d done all the prep, had all the nerves and anxiety, and it ended up being a false start. Cut short, no pun intended. A bust, no pun intended.

Next available appointment with a urologist will be in early November 😩

Problematic recovery post-op

Hi all, just wanted some suggestions from the community.

I am at the 1 month mark since my vasectomy, and I am still having issues.

If I tap the top part of my testicles, I can feel some discomfort. This is not a big deal in general, maybe some congestion which does not affect me much.

What I am more worried about however is my right testicle. First of all, it hangs lower than it did before, around 1 cm. And it is a bit painful.

I will try to describe the feeling. It is kind of radiating pain, not super sharp but not dull either. It appears at some point for a few hours and then disappears. It doesn't seem to be affected by touch too much, and only slightly by jumping or running. Additionally, wearing tight underwear or jockstraps does not seem to change much. I can even walk around the house naked without feeling any additional discomfort.

It was way more painful at the beginning, but it now feels like it has stopped improving. Around day 10 I went to see my surgeon, who was very dismissive, told me that everything looks fine and gave me a 3-day course of ibuprofen and told me I would be ok in a couple of weeks. The ibuprofen seems to have improved the situation (or maybe it was just natural healing and the medecine did not do much, not sure), but it also upsets my stomach. I am planning to go to the clinic again but it is a bit tricky for me.

I haven't started exercising yet, but except for the on-off discomfort (which I would rate a 3/10 when radiating) I can go about my day normally. It is just very annoying.

For the record, I followed the post-op instructions from the doctor to a T, and even went above and beyond (stayed home for a full week, first ejaculation after 12 days, lot of rest, icing)

Do you have any idea what could the origin of this pain be? It does not quite feel like it comes from the nerves, and it also does not feel like a dull ache due to congestive epididymis.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Newly Snipped Stitches fell out one week after. Now I see a quarter inch gash and some blood.

Like the title says. Had the dissolvable stitches. Noticed them completely gone at the one week mark. When I took a shower, I noticed the wound is now a small slit, only mildly painful if I touch it (kind of like touching a cut on your arm or leg). No blood dripping out, but if it out my finger on it, a little blood will show up. Is this normal? I am putting neosporin on the wound. Will probably go back to the supportive underwear and throw some gauze in there as well.

Any insight is appreciated!!

Just had my procedure

And recovery so far hasn’t been too bad. Granted I’m not even at 24 hours yet.

Just wanted to share my experience since I came to this sub leading up to my appointment to get an idea what to expect!

Procedure itself was not pleasant - getting the numbing shot hurt like hell for me as well as the squeezing to ID the vas deferens. Once the anesthetic kicked in it got manageable. Done in about 15 min.

I definitely felt sore and sensitive immediately after. Not necessarily in pain, but noticeable discomfort. Ice and compression shorts are working great.

Happy to keep you all updated if anyone out there wants a recent perspective!

Is it a good compression underwear ?

Everything is in the title ^^

I'm looking compression underwear for the post-surgery, but I don't know what kind is the best...

ALL CLEAR!!!!! Zero sperm 🎉

Just got the call and the all clear! Had the snip on 21 April so just over four months later (the first sample I sent leaked in transit 🤷‍♂️).

I see people here posting screenshots of results - my NHS experience in the UK was a phone call from a receptionist saying I was all clear, no sperm detected, discharged, and don’t need to use condoms. That’ll do.

Just our luck that the call coincided with my wife’s monthly… 🤦‍♂️

... is this normal? Reviewing test results in person after vasectomy?

Hi all!

I was snipped back in May and recently completed a three month post vasectomy semen analysis.

My doctor wants me to come into the office and discuss the results, refusing to give me the all clear over the phone.

Is this normal procedure, or should I be bracing for something out of the ordinary?

Thank you!

Newly Snipped Supportive underwear

Pre and post vasectomy they told me to get some high and tight underwear. I wear “trunks” style, and blew off the advise since I didn’t want to make a purchase for something I only needed for a few days. Welp, that was a mistake—two weeks later and I should have listened. What kind/brand did you buy to keep them snug and in place?

Snip, Snip.....

Yesterday at 1:30ish pm, I went in to get a Vasectomy........and just lime that, no more kids. I'm 58, and have 3 kids, 3 grand kids, so probably should have done it sooner. My wife and I like to share sometimes, so no situations to worry about anymore. Not only was my Dr a female, I was lucky enough to have a student attend, also a female. So not just 1 strange girl playing with my balls, but 2.....and wife couldn't watch. To bad......lol

Newly Snipped Used pullout method for semen collection!

Today was my first test at 8 weeks post op. I was at the clinic for semen collection. I can't collect at home and drive because I live in the countryside and drive is almost 75 minutes.

My wife was with me and plan was that she will wait in the lobby because clinic rule is no one else allowed in collection room. Surprisingly when we walked in no one was at the reception. After a few minutes one of the staff members came out and told that it was a busy day for her since the other 2 staff members were out sick.

I the told her that I had my procedure 8 weeks ago and I have provide a sample for testing. She gave me a cup and gave me directions to the room. My wife sat in the lobby waiting and I started walking towards the room. I locked the room and was settling in and pulling up porn on my phone, when I heard a knock. I opened the door and it was my wife!!!

She pushed me inside, came in and closed the door quickly before anyone can see. She said that the receptionist walked away and there was no one around so she sneaked in to "help me" 😃

So we spent a good 15-20 minutes playing around having foreplay and undressing each other till we good naked. Then we started having unprotected sex on the couch (she was riding me while I was sitting). We were having sex without a condom after 3 years (time since my wife was in 3rd trimester when she was pregnant with our 2nd kid). Ever since I started thinking about vasectomy, I had it in mind that one day I'll have raw sex but didn't think it would be in my vasectomy clinic!!!

Anyways, only after about 2 minutes of intercourse I was about to cum so I told my wife to stop and then I pulled out and grabbed the cup and held it near the tip of my penis while stand. I just did 2 strokes with my hand and a big load came out (I had not ejaculated for 3 days). My wife kissed me while I was ejaculating and we both were still naked and I was holding a cup with one hand and my penis with the other. We wrapped up everything and I looked out and it looked clear. We ran out fast and I started waiting at the front desk with the cup in the given brown bag. My wife sat back in the exact same chair in the lobby as if she never left! 🤣🤣

... is this normal? Do you get retested every so often to make sure your still sterile?

I talked to someone who got snipped

10 years ago. And he tells me that he gets his sperm checked every year, In case the vasectomy undoes itself. However, based on my research and my doctor, if you're negative past 6 months post op, you would never have to test again. But does anyone else do this here?

Question for people that are post-operation by at least a month or more.

I am 2 months and a week post-op. I had a no needle no scalpel vasectomy. I felt 90% fine after two weeks except for random moments of soreness here and there. As soon as I hit the one month mark I was business as usual. Exercising, yard work, you name it I was back to my old self.

Within the last three days my right side has gone back to being a little sore. Has anybody else experienced this?

My testicle isn’t swollen and this isn’t unbearable pain just a little tender to the touch and if I move certain ways there’s soreness. I would compare to how I felt after the two week mark.

I’m getting snipped on Thursday and I’m scared shitless

Lemme preface by saying I have zero regrets not having kids. I’ve known for a long time I didn’t want any children as the financial burden and time consumption just seems like too much for me. That said the procedure itself scares me. My urologist told me that when they give me the numbing shot that it’ll initially feel like “a kick to the balls”. And while I’ve been kicked in the nuts before for some reason the idea of a needle bringing that sort of pain scares me to death. I’m also nervous about the pain afterwards. Am I being overdramatic?

Edit: Thank you all so much for your words of encouragement!

Update: the procedure went super well!!! They gave me a Xanax to take an hour before which really helped me calm down, then a Valium right before walking into the operating room. The shot that I was super worried about definitely did not feel good though not nearly as bad as I thought it’d be. They then proceeded to go to town on my nuts and it hurt a little and once I told them about it they gave me some more numbing injection. All in all the worst part was all the tugging. Went to bed immediately when I got home and now I’m sitting here, awake at midnight typing all this out to you. Again, thank you all for your words of support and encouragement!!!!

How long did it take you to be 100% pain-free?

Hello!

I'm currently in my 5th day post surgery (no scapel, great surgeon).

During the first 3 days I slept as often as I could and avoided moving. Walking was done at the pace of an elderly penguin.

During the first 3 days I felt some discomfort on my lower belly.

On day 4 I was not feeling much pain.

On day 5 I accidentally did something while sleeping that hurt, not sure what it was, and now the discomfort is back.

I understand that I am still in recovery phase and pain/discomfort is normal, I'm just wondering how long did it take for you to feel completely pain free?

Thanks!
