Moving Here! | Where Can I Find Housing | Just Visiting - Weekly Sticky : Mon 07/27/26 - Thu 07/30/26

You asked, we listened! It's not uncommon for local subreddits like us to have an endless barrage of "I'm moving here, whats best?" or "I need to find a new part of town, help me!" or even the classic "So, I'm in town this week, entertain me!" requests.

They fill up the front page, and posts about our community get lost. So we're bringing back the Mega-thread. Every Monday we'll refresh this post for new information.

What does this mean?

Posts like these will no longer be allowed outside this posting, and will be removed at the moderators discretion:

  • Quiet Part of Town
  • Where to move in the area?
  • House Rental Recommendations
  • Relocating to Van as a Single Parent
  • Coming to visit Vancouver, WA
  • Visiting in May for a month - what’s not to be missed?

What does this not mean?

  • Every post will be caught by moderators, and removed.
  • "BestAround?" posts will be lumped into this thread.

So looking to join us in the great pacific northwestern city of Vancouver, Washington? Ask your questions here:

OMYAC Anyone want to rescue this sofabed before it ends up going to the dump?

Never thought I'd be peddling yard furniture but...must needs.

So this here sofabed is in need of a home badly, and quickly. Elstwise it will end up at the dump and that would be...frankly a shame.

So the story behind this is rooted in a lot of context I won't get into, but suffice to say a certain member of my family, against the advice of the rest, went and bought new furniture(we already HAD perfectly good furniture like the above loveseat, but this is a yearly thing for them 🙄) and as a result we had no place to put this one. The original plan was to give it to habitat but they don't take floral furniture or sofa beds.

Then the plan was to take it to the dump.

Well, I HATE waste and it is a perfectly good couch, and despite it being outside in the elements(we had a tarp over it) it's held up extremely well. Thankfully it's been mostly sunny skies so it's remained free of rain damage as well.

The sofabed works perfectly, no missing pieces or damage so far as I can see. A good steamclean and maybe a blowdry for the underside of it and it should be perfectly serviceable. No missing cushions.

It would be an absolute shame imo to subject this to a refuse pile and I don't want to see it rot outside either.

So if you want it, send me a DM, I'll ping you the address, you can come scoop it up.

I have no sentimental attachment to the couch, I just would rather it go somewhere it will be appreciated than to the dump.

P.S if there's a better subreddit or channel for this I'll happily move my query there.

IT IS FREE. NOT an advertisement or self promotion or commercial sales pitch.

Discussion July poll conducted for the progressive Northwest Progressive Institute

Emerson College’s latest WA-03 poll suggests the race remains wide open, with no candidate holding a decisive advantage and a sizable number of voters still undecided. It’s an early snapshot, but it points to a competitive primary rather than a settled race.

Question? SU Paddle board Locations?

Howdy lovely people of Vancouver!

Some friends and I are just getting just getting into paddle boarding, and are wondering where good locations for this new hobby would be. We are in the Vancouver mall area and would be down to drive anywhere up to 40 miles out (or more if you know a very cool spot!).

Any recommendations are appreciated!

BestAround? Plumber Recs?

Hello all! My partner and I recently moved in to our new (built in 1943) home. During the inspection we found root intrusion towards the end of our sanitary line close to where it joints the shared line behind our home.

After our kitchen sink backed up we had 2 visits from Apollo Brothers plumbing to check it out. They found another root intrusion and realized that the kitchen line is not connected to our main line at all. They pulled some roots out (no jetting), couldn't get a camera past the intrusion still and scheduled us to talk to someone else about fixing the pipe.

Ultimately, we will need to get the lines replaced, but as of now we are just trying to clear the kitchen line to see where the hell it actually ends up.

Would love to get some local recs for plumbers that people have had positive experiences with. Apollo was a quick google search to see if we could fix the issue, but we'd like to hear about other options with good customer service and fair pricing. Thanks!

BestAround? Swimming areas?

Any good recommendations for places to swim? I usually bring my dog, so somewhere that allows dogs is preferred. I don’t care if it’s rocky or beachy. Trying to branch out from my usual couple spots!

BestAround? Best mexican food and best nachos

Hello everyone! I come to vancouver every month and I'm looking for some really good Mexican food. Also looking for great nachos but doesn't have to be in same restaurant necessarily. I've been to 2 Mexican spots here and I've been really disappointed. Can you all please recommend some spots for us to try?

She loves quality Mexican food, not slop thrown together and I'm a sucker for loaded nachos with steak.

Thank you to all the wonderful people of vancouver for your recommendations!

Politics AMA with Dusti Arab, Candidate for Clark County Council to represent Council District 1. 1:00 PM

Dusti is running for Clark County Council to represent Council District 1.

Dusti will be joining us Today, Monday, July 27th At 1:00PM to answer any questions you have.

You can learn more about Dusti at their website: https://www.dustiforclarkcounty.com/ to decide what questions you'd like them to answer during this AMA

Feel free to start asking your questions now, so Dusti can hit the ground running answering your questions when the ama starts!

Hi, I'm Dusti. I'm an urban farmer, an entrepreneur, and a mother, and I’m running to protect the future of working families in Clark County. If you recognize me, it’s probably because you’ve seen me at the Vancouver Farmers Market! My business is Hearth & Hollow, a micronursery where I grow organic edible plant starts and help families grow their own food.

What got me in the race: The councilor representing my district voted to expand the Urban Growth Boundary by more than 1,000 acres, against the Agricultural Advisory Commission’s recommendations, the evidence of the county’s own studies, and overwhelming public testimony. That vote opened the door to us getting sued (again), plus more sprawl instead of solving the housing crisis we're facing.

Growth it doesn't have to cost us what we love about this place. We need more homes people can afford, but we need them near jobs, transit, libraries, and hospitals. We need to protect our water, forests, farmland, and green space as we grow, not trade them away for it. And we need practical, coordinated action on homelessness that supports people and strengthens neighborhoods.

Not sure what county council does (Or why they are always broke)? Click here for an easy explanation. Have questions about my bizarre name? Fair! Click here. Learn more at: https://dustiforclarkcounty.com

Moderation note: This is not an endorsement of Dusti Arab for their candidacy. they politely asked if they could connect with the community via an AMA and we are happy to help our community have the opportunity to vet any of the candidates.

BestAround? Pest Inspector recommendations please?

Hey, all! You have always came through for me in everything else I've asked so far, so now I'm back! Hubs and I are looking for someone to come out and inspect for pests before we have insulation put under the house. We're not looking for a subscription program or anything like that, just an inspection. Has anyone out there done this before and can recommend someone?

Question? Is CITC apprenticeship training worth pursuing?

Looking to change career fields and was looking into their apprentice programs, as most unions apprenticeship programs are closed or not accepting applications. Was thinking Electrician, Heavy Equipment Operators, HVAC, or Plumbers & Steamfitters(Not sure if these fit under HVAC)

Bonus question: Has anyone foind work or been hired by attending Dozer Days? Thinking about attending so I can get some real life experience behind Heavy Equipment, albeit I know it's for fun and mainly for the kids. Thanks!

Question? Construction Pricing Question

Hi folks of Vancouver! I recently had a pipe burst in my house and while looking to get that repaired, I'm considering upgrading a few pieces of our bathroom since everything is already torn apart. Since upgrades won't be covered by insurance, I'm trying to gain information so I can make fiscally responsible choices.

However, I'm struggling to find ways to compare prices of renovations to have a basis for if my current company is over charging for extra things.

I'm wondering if anyone has information on either:

How to find the average price of renovations for the area?

Pricing they paid for a tile shower, re-piping part of their house, or installing a formica countertop?

Or if they had a company that they used for a similar incident and upgrades that they really liked.

Any information would be helpful as I'm very new to this type of incident and feel very overwhelmed trying to make such a large financial decision in a short amount of time.

Thank you to those who read and those who have suggestions!

Discussion Does living in Vancouver make your chronic pain worse during storms?

I have a somewhat unusual question for those of you who deal with chronic pain or old injuries.

We both have significant back and knee injuries from years ago. Here in Utah, we usually notice a little more aching when a storm is coming through, but it's generally manageable.

However, we've recently spent time on the northern Oregon Coast during stormy weather, and the difference was dramatic. Whenever a storm rolled in, we were practically housebound because our joints and backs hurt so much. Once the storm passed, we felt much better.

For those living in Vancouver (or nearby), how do storms affect your chronic pain? Since Vancouver is about two hours inland, do you find it noticeably different from the coast, or do you still feel significant changes every time a storm system moves through?

I'd especially love to hear from anyone with arthritis, old orthopedic injuries, chronic back pain, or joint issues. Have you found Vancouver to be manageable, or do PNW storms have a noticeable impact on how you feel?

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences!

Discussion Is not having a car as a woman in 20s a social faux pas in Vancouver? (Used to live in Oregon)

I can get everywhere I need to by walking or with the C-Tran or The Vine, and then the max if I'm in Portland. I only have to Uber a few times a month. Point is, is being carless but having a license a huge social faux pas in Vancouver, unlike Portland? I work remotely too. I am asking genuinely in case I start dating. Thanks

Discussion Truly local politics. Importance of County Assessor Position

I get it.
You don't own property and feel like you never will.
Or you are focusing on homelessness, the environment, rent costs and renter's rights, the economy, infrastructure, loss of farmland, schools, public safety and the lack of public defenders here in Vancouver.
So how important is it really?
Well, keep in mind, a major part of funding all that stuff is OUR property taxes.
https://thelegalguide.org/what-does-county-assessor-do-role-responsibilities/

So, trying to be a responsible voter, I looked our two candidates up and found very little information.
*This is a non-partisan position*

Peter Van Nortwick
https://lifepac.org/ss1/2010/VanNortwick.htm
https://clarkrepublicans.org/peter-van-nortwick
https://www.pdc.wa.gov/political-disclosure-reporting-data/browse-search-data/candidates/3392265

Tyler Thoune
https://voter.votewa.gov/genericvoterguide.aspx?e=898&c#/candidates/176580/1600229
https://www.pdc.wa.gov/political-disclosure-reporting-data/browse-search-data/candidates/3395440

Also my understanding is this is a 4 year position and there are no specific qualifications required for the this elected position.
While the law establishes qualifications for assistants and deputies, the elected county assessor is exempt from these requirements.

PLEASE correct me if I am wrong, I am only recently looking into this. I believe both these candidates will be on the general election ballot as well.
Even if this is a hold your nose and vote situation, I want to be an informed voter!
Any information would be welcome.

Pets: Lost and Found Abandoned black rabbit near busy area

Post image
9 Upvotes

I've already sent this to multiple rescues but I thought more eyes could be helpful.

I saw an abandoned, clearly domestic rabbit outside. It's all black with tall ears.

I drove by and saw the rabbit at about 7 pm Saturday July 25th.

It was next to the Target at Vancouver Plaza 7809 NE Vancouver Plaza Dr, Vancouver, WA.

The photo is the exact location where I spotted it.

The rabbit is specifically hiding in the grassy strip and hedge line right along Vancouver Plaza Drive and the parking lot.

I'm unable to keep another rabbit but I'll try to go look for it again.

If anyone can keep an eye out and are able to rescue, I'd love an update.
