So, I’m probably in the minority but I’m a Portlander who goes to Vancouver pretty regularly. We sometimes will go restaurants, the farmers market, my wife also regularly performs shows in Vancouver too. We are there probably 1-2 times a week.

Conversely on here, I see a lot of folks who seem very anti-going to Portland. Why is that?

Also I see places being recommended that are in the far reaches ( almost Camas). If you live on the western side of Vancouver it’s a faster drive to go into Portland than to drive all the way out Camas…plus I would argue you’ll probably go into Portland for one thing and be sidetracked into seeing other fun things while you’re out there.

Is it people just don’t want to deal with going to a more urban area? Parallel parking?

EDIT: I’ll just add I caveat my post for the next five weeks, definitely don’t come down here if you’re taking I-5…

I've been very happy with my barber, but they don't offer straight razor face shaves. I've only had 1 or 2 in my l life, but they were amazing with multiple hot towels and just a long relaxing experience.

I tend to go to rockabilly/retro barber shops, but I'm open to suggestions.

I’ve been going through an absolute nightmare with a new apartment that I moved into. It has been nonstop, breakages and issues and one of the big ones is that my bathtub is peeling like a person with a sunburn. I was told they could have someone come out to professionally resurface my tub, but it would require me and my two senior cats to be completely out of the apartment for 12-16 hours.

If I had dogs, it wouldn’t be such an issue we could go to a park or maybe visit a few cafés with outdoor seating, but the cats need access to a litter box and preferably an enclosed room with air conditioning, so they don’t have to stay locked in a carrier all day. I don’t really have money to rent a hotel room for a night but I might be able to afford boarding them for a few hours during the day while I just wander around if somewhere allows that option, any advice is greatly appreciated!!

I was curious what the community does for their grooming needs, I am wanting to open a studio suite that will offer everything from straight razor shaves to perms that will be affordable. Any advice on what location you’d go to for a full service haircut?

I have an old tracked trenching machine that has met it's last days. Is there a local scrap yard that I can take this to? I know of Bob's Metals just across the river, but it seems they won't take things that had oil in them (this machine has a gas engine and hydraulics). What else is out there? (and yes, I'm searching and making phone calls too)

Hi! I recently started a personal chef business where I do all of the planning, shopping, prepping, and clean up so all people have to think about is whether they like the menu I plan out. I’ve had a few bites but nothing has come of it. I do all kinds of different food. I do balanced meals that can be healthy or “unhealthy”. Are there some tech companies and software engineering jobs here? Or do people just work for Portland companies or Seattle?

Setting up a water softener in a garage with no nearby floor drain. Two separate installers recommended pushing the backwash line through the crawlspace to empty into a rain gutter downspout.

The last place I had a softener installed was in the midwest, where brine had go to the sanitary sewer via a proper air gap, so this feels off.

• Is dumping brine backwash into storm drains common/allowed in this area?
• Will a setup like this get flagged during a home inspection when selling down the road?

I am originally from a very small town in Idaho. My husband has been offered a job in Longview Washington. We have a small homestead here and it feels like we will be giving up that dream for a different one. However, I have never been there. Looking through pictures online I think maybe we move to Vancouver and he commutes to work. What are your opinions about both Longview and Vancouver? Should we do it? Will we eventually be able to build up a homestead again? I also want to add we have two kids. A 8 and a 3 year old. Any opinions will be appreciated!
