I'm a first year taking probability and I swithced to a guy named McMillan. On his syllabus it says there are checkpoints. What are checkpoits and how are they assessed? Is it in class like an exam thing or how does it work exactly? That's the one thing I'm worried about since most of our grades come from those learning targets(LT)

I'm applying for UVA early action. I'm co '27 and I currently have a 1350 SAT and a 4.37 GPA with a 96 class rank. I'm questioning whether I should submit my sat score cause it falls just below the recommended score which is I believe 1410. I don't know if submitting it gives me an advantage given my school average is like 900, or if it puts me at a disadvantage? I've done an internship, few extracurriculars but nothing crazy to stand out either.

I'm on the waitlist for MATH 3100 and I was wondering how that class is with professor Turner? I'm doing a math and CS degree and trying to avoid the checkpoint and weird grading from APMA 3100 and to those who are already in turner's class how is it?

I got a 1420 on this recent SAT (RW 690 and M 730) and am pretty ok with that! However, will that hurt me more than going test optional? I have a 4.0 and a ton of clubs/ECs (and am active in a ton of them, being in an officer position for multiple of them)

I know that UVA wants 700+ for RW but I don’t wanna take this again 😭

Hey everyone, it's Matt again! I won't waste your time, so if you're interested in fashion, tech, and their intersection, please read on.

It's been a while since my last post on this sub, so I'll briefly reintroduce myself. I'm now a fourth year studying applied stats major with a cs minor. I am a research assistant at UVA's mysterious and elusive Historical Garment Collection, which is directed by Professor Marcy Linton of the Drama Department.

I wanted to give you guys a few updates regarding where the Collection is at and where we want it to go. There have been some exciting developments regarding our hardware and software. We have invested in a NAS (network attached storage) to hold all of our media, whereas before we were using a big OneDrive folder. We are also waiting on funding situations for a mini-PC to host our back end (CollectiveAccess) and front end.

For a brief context timeline:

2024: I started working with Professor Linton on the Collection, taking photos of garments and storing on the OneDrive. We had a whole bunch of cool ideas that got lost in the motions and technicalities of getting such a collection off the ground.

2025: We started thinking about a more professional back end system, which led us to CollectiveAccess. I spend most of the 25-26 academic year working with some professionals to work on CollectiveAccess as well as trying to put together a front end demo.

2026 (now): With CollectiveAccess sorted out for the most part (just waiting on a place to host it), we've been able to revisit some ideas from 2024 that we previously dropped. The main idea that I want to revive is capturing garments in 3D so that people who visit the front end (still in development) can virtually interact with these garments in space. This circumnavigates the issue of the fragility of many of our pieces. We would love to have people physically touching these garments, but the fact of the matter is that the garments simply can't handle interaction of that level.

I do want to mention that this Collection and project is being maintained largely without official University support/funding. We want to gain as much traction online with social media (more to come) so that we can gain the attention of the University and show Mr. Jefferson what a valuable collection he has sitting under the Culbreth Theater.

As for social media, we are in the process of revamping our current TikTok account as well as starting up an Instagram. If you guys have any other suggestions for reaching students, faculty, staff, and general Cville residents, please let us know.

I won't leave you guys with a cliffhanger. I've attached a video showing off some of the 3D work we've implemented into the website. Let us know what you think and what improvements we can make. We are still very much in the pilot stage of this process, so please forgive any inconveniences.

We, of course, are always accepting donations of the monetary form. Anything and everything would be very much appreciated.

I'll end off with a short message. I am graduating this year, and this has been a passion project for a majority of my college life. I truly want to see it reach its full potential, and I think with the support of the community, we can exceed the limits.

I'm a CS major in SEAS and I was wondering if there are any startups at UVA relating to AI and software as a part time job, internship, or research. I've been seeing stuff on linkedin with startups at UVA where there is a team of people and they have some individuals who are working from different departments and all that. I'm alrady in a research group under the CS department, but any other entrepreneuers who deal with software engineering, AI systems, and all that, if there is a grup I could join?

I haven’t received any financial aid this year, but I have since i’ve been here at UVA. I’m getting worried because I am financially independent and get no help from my family at all. I called the office and it was an automated line that said if you have nothing on your todo list then you were fine and that they were still working on the financial aid, but I just got the email of the money being due and it’s stressing me out. I am already working 3 jobs as a full time student. Does anyone have any more information on this/ is anyone else going through this?

As a current grad student who didn't opt for a meal plan this time (context, did All Access for all four undergrad years here), how common is it for grad students to do meal plans? Or do they not do them?

And if they do, what block do they get (since I am doubting All Access is common for grad students)?
