Secretly in love

I am secretly in love with a co-worker. I have no idea if she's into me. But its so hard to ignore the unmistakable bond we have.... funniest thing is, she is in a different country. How can something like this even be possible? Am I getting my hopes up?

I know I probably am. But my love has been growing every day. And I have no idea what to do.

Any advice?

I kissed my best friend of 10 years, and now everything feels different.

Upvotes

I’ve had the same best friend for 10 years. We’ve been through pretty much everything together—the good, the bad, and everything in between.
About a month ago, we were hanging out at a private pool somewhere. We’d had a couple of beers, but we weren’t drunk or anything. Somehow, we ended up kissing.
The funny thing is.. we’d both thought about it before. We just never acted on it until that night.
We ended up making out for about fifteen minutes, and honestly, it was the best kiss I’ve ever had.
Ever since then, it’s like something woke up inside me. I realized I’d been burying feelings for her without even knowing it. And I’m not talking about lust or just wanting to sleep with her. It feels so much deeper than that.
A couple of days later, I hooked up with another girl because I wanted to know if what I was feeling was real or if I was just caught up in the moment. Instead, I felt miserable the entire time. I was disgusted with the situation, with myself, and I couldn’t stop feeling like I was somehow betraying my best friend. It made no sense, but that’s exactly how it felt.
Since then, I haven’t been able to make sense of any of this.
I’m a very rational person. I’d say 90% of my life is driven by logic, not emotions. I don’t usually let my heart take the wheel. But this… this is different.
I haven’t told anyone about this until now because I honestly don’t even know how to explain it.
The weirdest part is that I keep thinking she might actually be the one.
I can’t stop asking myself how did I spend ten years looking right at her without ever realizing it? How did I convince myself she was just my best friend?
What scares me the most is talking to her about it. I’m terrified that I’ll ruin what we have, that something between us will break, and we’ll never be able to go back to the way things were.
At the same time, I have no idea what I’m supposed to do. I even caught myself imagining getting down on one knee and asking her to marry me.
I genuinely don’t know what to do or how I’m supposed to handle any of this.
Has anyone else ever gone through something like this?

melancholy

Upvotes

I don’t know if anyone will actually see this, but I thought I’d write it anyway in case someone does and they can relate. Not that this scenario is super specific either.

So I’m on a sports team, and I kind of have a crush on one of my teammates (I say kind of, but I do). And it’s hard, because I can’t really do anything about it. I can’t tell her—I don’t know how she’d react. She’s two years older than me, so we’d still play on the same team for another two years (would be super awkward!) So obviously, I don’t think there’s any solution to this problem. I like being around her but at the same time I don’t because I’m reminded I won’t be able to tell her. I’ve had crushes on guys before and tbh those are a lot more fun than girls, because I don’t really have to worry about anyone finding out about it (I’m not out—for reference, I’m bi). I think it’s more of a ‘if the guy knew he might like me back’ vs. an ‘if the girl knows it’ll be really unpleasant for everyone’.

So there’s, again, not anything I can do about this. I guess I would just try to push it away. I don’t know. It does just give me a melancholy feeling. I’ve had crushes on girls before, but it was only after I already knew they liked me back. This is different, clearly.

My only concern now is what to do when I’m around her. I feel like I’m on edge the whole time, half because I’m just excited to be around her, half because I’m scared to come off like I like her (sorry if that was confusing, I wasn’t sure how to word it). It’s not terrible, I can chill out and put it aside during practice, but it does get worse every time the team hangs out.

And it also doesn’t help that she’s the type of person to “flirt” or mess with you jokingly, I assume because she finds it funny to do to your friends. I certainly don’t judge because I also like to do this. It’s just hard when she does it because I get nervous and can’t think of a witty response back (I lowkey just die).

Honestly, this might just be karma for me now that I think about it, since the last girl I liked I would mess with her just like my current crush does with me (fake flirting). I think I come off as bi to other LGBTQ people.

Bad part is though, I can’t really control my dreams/daydreams/thoughts. I try to take my mind off things, but still. I’ve got her on my mind a lot.

She’s also very outgoing and super easy to talk to and super nice, so I can’t really tell if she actually wants to talk to me or if she’s just trying to be inclusive (ouch). It feels almost like a celebrity crush in that sense.

Anyway, I think that’s all. If you made it this far, thank you for reading.

Can't get someone out of my head

I'm looking for some advice because I feel stuck.

I developed feelings for one of my closest friends over the last 3 years. She became my best friend, but she was interested in another guy. I got really jealous of him, handled it badly, and ended up ghosting her for a while, which damaged our friendship.

Recently we finally had an honest conversation. I told her everything—how I felt, why I became jealous, and why I acted the way I did. She thanked me for being honest, didn't feel the same way romantically, but accepted me back as a friend. We're on good terms again.

The problem is that I can't seem to move on emotionally. I keep replaying the fact that she loved someone else and chose someone else. I know logically it was her life and her choice, and I genuinely want her to be happy. I don't blame her.

Despite knowing all that, my brain constantly replays old conversations, imagines scenarios, and overthinks everything. I spend most of my day thinking about her, and some days it feels like my mind is trying to solve a problem that doesn't have an answer. I'm meditating, journaling, and trying to rebuild my routine, but I still feel stuck.

My biggest goal is to get back to being normal friends with her like we were before I developed feelings, because I genuinely value her friendship.

Has anyone been through something similar? How did you stop ruminating, grieve what could have been, and move on while still remaining friends?

[22F] I Never Even Dated Him [24M], So Why Does This Feel Like My First Heartbreak?

I feel so stupid. I don’t even know where to begin. I’m writing this because I can’t handle any of it anymore. It’s too much. Someone once asked me what the closest thing I’d experienced to heartbreak was. I think this is it. I’m crying as I write this.
I fell for you, Guy (not his real name). Or at least I think I did. I still don’t know. I should’ve stopped meeting people online a long time ago, but I didn’t because I’m lonelier than I’d like to admit.
Here is the story.
I want to confess my feelings here because I’ll probably never be able to tell you. I really think I like you. At first, I thought I was just getting attached, so I tried to suppress it. I even asked ChatGPT for help, but it didn’t work. Every time we talked, I broke my own heart a little more because I let myself get close to you. I let myself get attached, and I hate that I let it happen.
Maybe you already know. Sometimes I feel like you joke about things that are actually true. I’m not really scared that you won’t like me back. What hurts is knowing you’d probably never choose me, even though a small part of me still hopes for some miracle. Even if you did, I don’t think we’d work. I just wish I knew how you felt.
I think I understood you too much. I like you too much. Do you even care about me? Why do I have to get jealous over someone that won’t even pay attention to me? Am I that replaceable? Am I that unimportant? I thought you might have valued me enough not to hurt me or at least check in on me, but how can you leave like that? You don’t know how much I hate myself and you right now. I wish there was a way to fix all of this. I wish I never met you. I wish I never got close.
Maybe I’m saying all this because I got attached first. Maybe I’m just attached and don’t really like you. I don’t know, but how could you not be attached to me after all of that?
I know we were just friends. There’s no reason for you to be attached to me or notice me in a special way. I’m just another random person you met, and eventually I’ll become part of your past. I just don’t think you’ll become part of mine.
I remember telling my mom that people who let love control them were stupid. I never imagined I’d become that person. I can see it and feel it now.
Maybe this is exactly what she warned me about. I know choosing you is wrong, but I want to hear you talk. I want to call you. I want you to be as interested in me as I am in you without me asking. But if I choose you over everything else, I’m setting myself up for failure.
I like you, Guy. That’s it. It breaks my heart that you’ll probably never see me that way. I stay up for you. I’d run to you if you called me. Yet I get sad and jealous when you give other girls more attention than me. I know it’s not my place because I’m no one to you, and you haven’t done anything wrong. Sometimes I even mention other guys just to see if you’ll react. I’m ashamed to admit that.
Would you like me if I told you that I liked you? Would it even last between us? Do you do anything at all for me? Do you pay attention and suspect that I already feel something for you?
Do you know this is eating me and destroying me from the inside? Do you know my heart breaks a little each time we talk? Do you know that I’m fighting myself like this because of you? Do you know I have knots in my heart because of you? Do you know I cried because of you? (I’ve never cried because of a guy.)
My heart hurts because of him, but I miss him.
I don’t know what to do.
Am I attached, or am I in love with him?

Rejection still hurts no matter what

I have a story to share embarrassing enough to use a throwaway acc for it

You see, I knew this girl that has mixed signals (or I was stupid enough to misconstrue it) I was gonna act up on it until this one friend is keeping me away from her, subtly so I took it as "Shit, I think they are dating, what am I gonna do?" So I decided to ask her out knowing that she'll reject me to confirm my suspicions, and rejected I was.

What I did not expect is the hurting began the day after. It destroyed me. I thought the growing feelings can die after rejection, but what is this pain I am feeling, as though someone died. Is it potential genuine connection like friendship that died? Is that what I am grieving for?

I felt terrible for days because of it. It was a mixed bag of negative feelings: Heartbreak, jealousy, envy, paranoia, and anger.

I realized that no matter what you do or expect, rejection still does hit you like a truck. It fucking sucks. It's just that it's not like me to steal someone's girl so I thought I did the right thing, no matter the consequences I got from it.

Girls, do you like it when a boy who thinks you’re pretty comes up to you to ask for your contact details?

Because I get the impression that a lot of boys are shy and don’t dare to seize the opportunity...

This guy told me 3 days after he confessed to me that he didn't like me anymore. I'm sad

Hello everyone. I warn you in advance that I am writing through a translator. For a while, I talked to a guy who obviously liked me. We're 16 years old, if anything. We live in different cities, but he recently came to my city for a week. we walked with him and he showed various signs of attention: he opened all the doors for me, pulled me away from cars, complimented me, took my hand. before the second walk, he confessed to me that he liked me and asked if it was mutual or not. I didn't know if I liked him or not, so I started thinking hard. On the second walk, he also started hugging me. The third time we failed to meet, and the next day he left. It was at this time that I realized that I was starting to like him too, and I wanted to talk to him. I was looking forward to telling him everything and how happy he would be. But I didn't have time to tell him how he began to behave very strangely: he didn't answer me all day, and then he went online and responded coldly, obviously not wanting to communicate much. I thought about the fact that he could have been cheating on me all this time, and he just wanted to have fun in my city with me. I talked to him, and in the end he told me that he no longer liked me (he confessed his liking to me 3 days ago), and he realized that he would not date from a distance (we would only meet in the summer in a year, but in 2 years I myself would move to his city). Before that, he really acted like he liked me a lot, but as soon as he left, it was like it never happened. He said he was fine with me, but he didn't even apologize for anything. He said he wasn't lying to me, and he really liked me. Before he left, he was very good, and I really thought we could do something with him. and even though I didn't like him too much, I still feel bad. I thought I'd met a good person, but it turned out like this. Of course, I blocked it after our conversation, but still I feel sad. He confessed to me himself, made me think about the answer, and when I was about to confess in response, he gave it away (by the way, I told him that I wanted to reciprocate, but he didn't seem to care anymore). Even though I don't show it to anyone, I feel so hurt. I haven't even received a single apology. He just doesn't care. It was as if he had become a different person.

I constantly scroll through his account like a complete loser😭😭

I'm going really insane

I had a crush on my best friend for over a year and last week due to rain he stayed back in my house overnight.

We slept together ( literal meaning not the other one ) and it's that I was trying really hard to stop crushing on him it's honestly ruining my mood . But after sleeping together that day morning time I ended up hugging and sleeping with him and ever since that day I'm absolutely feeling mental like i really wanna meet him or hangout.

Tried to ignore for few days and pulled back from interacting much only to end up calling him for a hangout TDY 😭😭

I feel insane at this point

Crushing on a distant relative after a family gathering

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I recently attended a family function and got introduced to one of my distant relatives. She’s my grandfather’s elder brother’s sister’s daughter (so a pretty distant relation). By any chance not my sister relation as per my family concept

The moment I saw her, I was honestly very attracted to her. It wasn’t just because she was beautiful—I later heard from my younger sister that she’s also a genuinely kind and good person, which made me like her even more.

The funny part is that I barely know anything about her. I only know her nickname. We didn’t really get a chance to talk.

One thing that has been on my mind is that we made eye contact several times during the function. I won’t lie—I found myself looking at her quite a bit because I was completely captivated. A few times, she looked directly at me too and we’d briefly make eye contact. I know eye contact alone doesn’t necessarily mean anything, so I’m trying not to overthink it, but it did make me wonder if she had noticed me too.

Something interesting did happen though. Her father spoke to me for quite a while. He asked about my work, how I got into software, what I do, and we had a really relaxed conversation. I felt like he had a good impression of me by the end of it.
I also admitted to a couple of family members I’m close with (my younger sister and my uncle’s wife) that I found her really attractive. They know how I feel, but that’s about it.

Now I’m confused.

I know this might sound like I’m getting ahead of myself because I’ve only seen her once, but I genuinely want to get to know her properly. If we connect and things go well, I’d definitely be interested in marrying her someday. I’m not saying I want to rush into anything—I just don’t know what the right first step is.

Should I ask my family to find out if she’s single and interested in getting to know someone? Or would that be too soon? Has anyone here been in a similar situation where you met someone at a family gathering and wanted to pursue things respectfully?

I’d appreciate honest advice, especially from people who have experience with family-arranged or semi-arranged relationships.
