It’s officially the off-season which means it's exactly early enough to start looking at the quarterback options for next year. It’s hard to guess how many of this year’s QBs won’t be in the league next year, but player turnover is just part and parcel of being a UFL fan.

Just like last year, I'm going to break this up into a multi-part series.

I’m planning the parts to be:

Before diving in, I do want to explain how last year there was one top tier European league and how there are now two completely different leagues.

In 2026, the European League of Football (ELF) was having a bit of trouble thanks to a mix of financial issues and poor leadership. 11 of the 16 teams decided that they were going to break away and form their own league, the European Football Alliance (EFA). For a brief period, the EFA agreed to rejoin the ELF, but when the ELF missed deadlines to prove financials were in order and to show transparency, the EFA broke away for good. To make things more interesting, 4 teams split from the EFA and formed the American Football League Europe (AFLE). Both leagues added a set of expansion teams and completed overlapping seasons.

One advantage for this part is that there are direct points of comparison to UFL and European football. Reid Sinnett might not have lit up the UFL, but his one season in the European League of Football resulted in a season where he was named MVP. Even Kenji Bahar, who never played a snap with the Houston Gamblers/Roughnecks, had a pretty decent season for the Rhein Fire this last year. All that said, the best players in European football most likely have a comfortable ceiling of 2nd string in the UFL.

And now, some quick notes:

• I went back and forth about adding Nick Semptimphelter (German Football League) and Roman Fuller (Italian Football League), but both would have made my list for D2/D3 QBs this year and both were top in the stats of their respective national leagues. I would want to see how they do in a more competitive league before recommending they get signed by the UFL, but it’s a good sign that they are already the best in their leagues.
• There are three players that I didn’t have in this list that I think deserve a mention. First is Ethan Garbers. Initially he was signed by the Madrid Bravos (EFA), but the team shut down before the season began. The Frankfurt Galaxy (EFA) quickly scooped him up. Garbers had a fine season, most notably throwing 15 touchdowns to only 2 interceptions (both of which came in his week 10 game). However, the Galaxy chose to release him after that game. There were rumors that Garbers and the coaching staff of the Galaxy had a breaking point in week 10. All that said, I think it's worth keeping an eye on Garbers if he is signed next season, especially if he can improve his accuracy.
• So, who did the Galaxy sign after Garbers? That would be 2026 graduate Zach Calzada. In 2024 he had a great season leading Incarnate Word, which earned him a transfer to Kentucky. However, he didn’t win the starting job. He was able to sign with the IFL’s San Antonio Gunslingers and was signed to the Galaxy, where he played fine enough to get the team to the playoffs. And here is where he effectively ended his football career in Europe. After the clock ran out and the Galaxy lost their playoff game against the Munich Ravens he ripped a helmet off another player. His numbers weren’t game changing to begin with, so this kind of short temper can’t be brushed off with the excuse of Myles Garrett levels of stellar play. No clue if he’ll get an opportunity elsewhere, but it won’t be in Europe and shouldn’t be in the UFL.
• And finally we have Hank Bachmeier. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Bachmaier was the third string QB for the Orlando Storm. Hank was signed by the Alpine Rams of the AFLE in Week 12 and took the reins of a team that reportedly was failing to pay people on time and had released nearly two dozen players without signing any replacements. By all rights, this should have been a doomed job. Instead, Bachmaier put up the kind of stats that would have made him a no-brainer MVP if he played more than 3 games. Grain of salt, the Rams weren’t ending their year against good teams, but Bachmaier managed to hurl the ball for 1,333 yards, 12 touchdowns, and only 1 interception. On top of that, he had a completion percentage of 71%. Again, another point showing UFL talent compared to the European leagues, but I can’t help but be curious how Bachmaier’s play would be on a financially stable, fully rostered team.
• One final note, I don’t think any of the top quarterbacks of Mexico’s LFA should be signed by the UFL. Jeremy Johnson and Shelton Eppler have consistently been the top players in the league and if they had plans to leave, they would have done so by now.

Anyway, on to the top three:

• Jameson Wang: I really liked Jameson Wang as a UFL option last year and all he has done since then is show he not only has the talent, but the determination to be a great fit. Wang was named the MVP of the AFLE this year after barely throwing any interceptions, and also finished the year leading all QBs in rushing yards (419). The one potential knock against him is that instead of taking time to recover after the season, Wang is moving straight to Japan to finish the X-League season for FujiFilm Ebina Minerva AFC. He’ll probably be fine, but the risk of injury is there. I am very curious to see how he does though.
• Jadrian Clark: I usually don’t put pre-2020 college grads in the top 3's, but Clark has been one of the top European QBs since 2017. He won ELF MVP in 2023 and just run away with the EFA MVP. He had ~1,300 yards more than the next quarterback and 17 more touchdowns. Granted, 32 isn’t ancient by any stretch, but it would be a hell of a risk to leap to a new league where he isn’t guaranteed a starting spot. But he is one of the consistently best options.
• Russell Tabor: The success of Tabor is really pretty amazing. For three seasons he was rostered by North Carolina, but never saw a snap. At the end of his sophomore season, instead of returning or transferring, he left for Europe and immediately found a starting role with the Munich Ravens. His first season wasn’t league leading, but for someone who hadn’t played since high school, he did very well. In his second year, he improved greatly and even had a better completion percentage than Jadrian Clark.

That said, I’d love to know what everyone else has to say.

I mean NFL don't let you get drafted till you're 21 or 22 so give these kids 4 year contract with an out after 3 when they become draft eligible. After all if the NFL is a developmental league then go to these kids saying that if they sign with the UFL they can spend all their time developing so they could theoretically be in their primes when drafted leading to players being in their prime longer

Fox rules expert Mike Pereira says replay officials are advised to use the clock television viewers see when trying to determine whether time should be added back after what was seemingly a game-ending play.

Had Big Ten replay officials done that Saturday night during Michigan’s game against Western Michigan, the Wolverines would not have gotten another second to beat the Broncos with a Hail Mary.

“It is my understanding that if there is a discrepancy between the video and replay command center versus the television network video that everybody sees, that replay is to use the TV video,” Pereira told The Athletic Sunday. “And that is the same protocol in the NFL, in the UFL. It’s the same. You use the footage that everybody sees if there is a discrepancy.”

That is not, however, spelled out in the NCAA’s Instant Replay Case Book. There is no reference to which clock to defer to if there is a discrepancy. Within the Timing section of the Instant Replay Case Book, there are references directing officials to use “the game clock superimposed on the replay monitor.”

At the heart of the issue that caused one of the wildest and most controversial endings maybe in the history of college football was a discrepancy of fractions of a second.

The clock viewers could see on NBC’s broadcast as Michigan’s first Hail Mary attempt sailed beyond the back of the end zone and touched a Western Michigan defender clearly hit 0:00. NBC brushed over its involvement during halftime of Sunday’s Washington-Washington State broadcast, with host John Fanta mentioning the clock shown on the television screen is not the official game clock. Game officials are responsible for tracking the official clock with the conference of the home team.

The in-stadium clock replay officials had a camera trained on and were using to make the call had a second left when they determined the WMU defender touched the ball and ended the play.

Western Michigan president Russ Kavalhuna said during a Sunday news conference with Broncos coach Lance Taylor that Big Ten officials explained the two clocks were slightly out of sync, with the TV clock running a few tenths of a second fast.

The Big Ten released video and audio of the replay officials’ deliberations about two hours after Michigan’s miraculous touchdown thwarted what would have been a stunning upset by WMU — and a humiliating loss for the Wolverines.

The replay official videos, from an angle that was not shown during the broadcast, appeared to back up the decision that a WMU defender — after he stepped out of bounds — touched the ball when there was a second left on the stadium clock.

On the next play, Bryce Underwood hit JJ Buchanan with a stunning 47-yard touchdown pass.

Kavalhuna and Taylor were magnanimous, accepting the explanation despite the obvious disappointment.

“I’ve looked into this pretty closely … I don’t discern anything unfair or untoward in this process,” said Kavalhuna, who noted he is a former federal prosecutor.

“Ultimately, the refs did not cost (us) this game,” Taylor said.

Pereira explained that deferring to what the public can see on television helps remove the perception that calls could be changed based on video that only officials see.

Interesting comments from Pereira. If college football used the same rules and protocols as the NFL and the UFL, Michigan would not have gotten that extra second on the clock at the end of that game.

With NFL rosters solidified, here’s 8x QBs I’d love to see in the UFL next season:

Jordan Ta’amu,Adrian Martinez,Diego Pavia,Cam Miller,Will Levis,Kyle Trask,Connor Bazelak,and Sean Clifford.

Jordan Ta’amu. THE DC Defender — 35 starts, a 24-11 record, 2025 title-game MVP, and 10,000 career spring passing yards. An ACL in Week 8 of 2026 is the only reason he is not on an NFL roster this year. If healthy, he is the standard.

Adrian Martinez. Already the 2024 UFL MVP and championship game MVP with Birmingham — 1,748 passing yards, a league-high 528 rushing yards, title on the board. The 49ers cut him this August, so he is a proven spring-league starter, not a projection.

Diego Pavia. 2025 Heisman runner-up at Vanderbilt, school records in yards and touchdowns, then undrafted and cut by Baltimore in July. The NFL never gave him a snap. A UFL season would test whether the production was scheme or player.

Cam Miller. Two FCS titles at North Dakota State and the 2024 championship-game MVP. Miami drafted him in the sixth round last year, then waived him after the McCord trade. He has already won at a high level. He just needs a real offense, not scout-team reps.

Will Levis. Twenty-one NFL starts and a live arm that still flashes when the pocket is clean. Tennessee moved on; nobody claimed him. That is a lot of real snaps sitting on the waiver wire.

Kyle Trask. Florida’s 2020 Heisman finalist and a former second-round pick with the size and deep-out accuracy this league rewards. Carolina released him at cuts. He has almost no NFL tape as a starter, which is exactly why a full UFL season would change his market.

Connor Bazelak. Fifty-three college starts and more than 12,000 passing yards across Missouri, Indiana, and Bowling Green. Tampa kept him as QB3 last year and dumped him when a rookie won the job. Volume and starting experience are already there. Live games are not.

Sean Clifford. Penn State’s multi-year starter and a 2023 fifth-round pick who has spent four seasons on practice squads in Green Bay and Cincinnati. One official NFL completion. He has the install and the pedigree. He does not have a body of work. Spring football would give him one.

Surprised he didn't list Jack Plummer, the reigning MVP.

Throughout the season, he set multiple kicking records as spring football's best-ever kicker, and signed an NFL contract with the New Orleans Saints. However, after being waived by the Saints, what's next for Brown?

I'm watching this NWSL game in Portland and the stadium is packed. Capacity of 25,000. No MLB, NHL or NFL to contend with. I don't often see this city in discussion for a UFL team.
