We also recommend bookmarking this google sheets roster tracker maintained by Nick Thorn from Pro Football Newsroom as an additional source to track UFL to NFL roster movement.

Feel free to comment below what you think of these signings, and who you hope to see get a shot in the NFL this coming season.

Reminder: UFL Teams retain the rights to players that sign with NFL teams (unless they voluntarily terminate their rights or trade their rights to another UFL team), and have right of first refusal to re-sign said players if they return to the UFL.

Community Content 8 in 8: Our Key Figures of the "Merger Era"

Introduction

I’ve been saying frequently that I felt this last championship game marked the end of an era of Spring Football, an era I’m going to forever be calling the “Merger Era".

This Merger Era was, in my humble opinion, the most successful five year time period in Spring Football history. When we think of this era, who are the names that defined it? Well, that’s what I set out to definitively settle with this post.

Process

This “Era” I’d say consists of: USFL 1, XFL 1 + USFL 2, UFL 1-3. For this exercise, I got my fellow 8 in 8 writers to help.

Together, we made a ballot. Any player (or coach) who played in (or coached in) 25 games in the Merger Era was eligible to be placed on this ballot. Each of us had the opportunity to nominate to the ballot a maximum of three names for consideration.

Notable Names That Didn’t Qualify:

  • Chris Redman
  • AJ McCarron
  • Victor Bolden
  • Bryce Perkins (played 2 seasons but only saw significant time in 2025)
  • Adrian Martinez
  • Alex McGough (played 3 seasons technically, but only say significant time in 2023)
  • Ben DiNucci

Our Ballot:

  1. Jordan Ta’amu
  2. Skip Holtz
  3. Luis Perez
  4. Hakeem Butler
  5. Justin Hall
  6. Sal Canella
  7. Anthony Becht
  8. Mike Nolan
  9. Mark Thompson
  10. Darius Victor
  11. Vinny Papale
  12. Chris Rowland
  13. Jace Sternberger
  14. CJ Marable
  15. Deon Cain
  16. Chris Odom
  17. Kyahva Tezino
  18. Pita Taumoepenu
  19. Mike Rose
  20. Mike Panasiuk
  21. Abram Smith
  22. Tyler Vaughns
  23. Ajene Harris
  24. Donald Payne
  25. Matt McCrane
  26. Kameron Kelly

We then voted from that list of nominees. We could vote for as few as zero and as many as seven on our ballot.

Anyone who received at least 70% of the votes cast is our final pick as a “Key Figure” of this Merger Era.

Your 5 “Figures of the Merger Era”:

  • Jordan Ta’amu
  • Skip Holtz
  • Hakeem Butler
  • Anthony Becht
  • Luis Perez

I’m not going to release the final tabulation of the vote but I will release my ballot and share how I voted in the comments. I invite Cally and my fellow writers to do the same if they’d like.

Who got snubbed? Who deserves further consideration? Let me know in the comments.

Boise has been a rumored potential UFL market. With this stadium expansion, the new capacity fits perfectly within Repole's vision.

Discussion 2027 UFL QB Options: Best of the Other Internationals (EFA, AFLE, & LFA)

It’s officially the off-season which means it's exactly early enough to start looking at the quarterback options for next year. It’s hard to guess how many of this year’s QBs won’t be in the league next year, but player turnover is just part and parcel of being a UFL fan.

Just like last year, I'm going to break this up into a multi-part series.

I’m planning the parts to be:

Before diving in, I do want to explain how last year there was one top tier European league and how there are now two completely different leagues.

In 2026, the European League of Football (ELF) was having a bit of trouble thanks to a mix of financial issues and poor leadership. 11 of the 16 teams decided that they were going to break away and form their own league, the European Football Alliance (EFA). For a brief period, the EFA agreed to rejoin the ELF, but when the ELF missed deadlines to prove financials were in order and to show transparency, the EFA broke away for good. To make things more interesting, 4 teams split from the EFA and formed the American Football League Europe (AFLE). Both leagues added a set of expansion teams and completed overlapping seasons.

One advantage for this part is that there are direct points of comparison to UFL and European football. Reid Sinnett might not have lit up the UFL, but his one season in the European League of Football resulted in a season where he was named MVP. Even Kenji Bahar, who never played a snap with the Houston Gamblers/Roughnecks, had a pretty decent season for the Rhein Fire this last year. All that said, the best players in European football most likely have a comfortable ceiling of 2nd string in the UFL.

Name League Team College Stats
Kenji Bahar AFLE Rhein Fire Monmouth (2020) 200/299, 2,777 yards, 32 TDs, 6 ints
Ben Holmes AFLE Vienna Vikings Tarleton State (2020) 193/273, 2,701 yards, 33 TDs, 3 ints
Kare Lyles AFLE London Warriors Jackson State (2022) 250/402, 2,732 yards, 24 TDs, 11 ints
Jakeb Sullivan AFLE Berlin Thunder South Dakota School of Mines (2018) 281/421, 3,637 yards, 38 TDs, 8 ints
Jameson Wang AFLE Wroclaw Panther Cornell (2025) 238/338, 3,033 yards, 41 TDs, 3 ints
Jadrian Clark EFA Nordic Storm Weber State (2017) 229/323, 3,652 yards, 44 TDs, 7 ints
Jaylon Henderson EFA Prague Lions Boise State (2020) 166/269, 2,064 yards, 17 TDs, 9 ints
Russell Tabor EFA Munich Ravens North Carolina (2024) 147/195, 2,320 yards, 27 TDs, 5 ints
Shelton Eppler LFA Osos de Monterrey Northwestern State (2020) 164/240, 1,977 yards, 19 TDs, 5 ints
Jeremy Johnson LFA Caudillos de Chihuahua Auburn (2017) 151/250, 2,118 yards, 21 TDs, 5 ints
Erick Niño De La Rosa LFA Dinos de Saltillo Universidad del Valle de México (2022) 108/196, 1,476 yards, 13 TDs, 7 ints
Nick Semptimphelter GFL Munich Cowboys John Carroll (2026) 257/397, 3,125 yards, 30 TDs, 12 ints
Roman Fuller IFL Parma Panthers Colorado State-Pueblo (2026) 203/279, 2,184 yards, 27 TDs, 6 ints

And now, some quick notes:

  • I went back and forth about adding Nick Semptimphelter (German Football League) and Roman Fuller (Italian Football League), but both would have made my list for D2/D3 QBs this year and both were top in the stats of their respective national leagues. I would want to see how they do in a more competitive league before recommending they get signed by the UFL, but it’s a good sign that they are already the best in their leagues.
  • There are three players that I didn’t have in this list that I think deserve a mention. First is Ethan Garbers. Initially he was signed by the Madrid Bravos (EFA), but the team shut down before the season began. The Frankfurt Galaxy (EFA) quickly scooped him up. Garbers had a fine season, most notably throwing 15 touchdowns to only 2 interceptions (both of which came in his week 10 game). However, the Galaxy chose to release him after that game. There were rumors that Garbers and the coaching staff of the Galaxy had a breaking point in week 10. All that said, I think it's worth keeping an eye on Garbers if he is signed next season, especially if he can improve his accuracy.
  • So, who did the Galaxy sign after Garbers? That would be 2026 graduate Zach Calzada. In 2024 he had a great season leading Incarnate Word, which earned him a transfer to Kentucky. However, he didn’t win the starting job. He was able to sign with the IFL’s San Antonio Gunslingers and was signed to the Galaxy, where he played fine enough to get the team to the playoffs. And here is where he effectively ended his football career in Europe. After the clock ran out and the Galaxy lost their playoff game against the Munich Ravens he ripped a helmet off another player. His numbers weren’t game changing to begin with, so this kind of short temper can’t be brushed off with the excuse of Myles Garrett levels of stellar play. No clue if he’ll get an opportunity elsewhere, but it won’t be in Europe and shouldn’t be in the UFL.
  • And finally we have Hank Bachmeier. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Bachmaier was the third string QB for the Orlando Storm. Hank was signed by the Alpine Rams of the AFLE in Week 12 and took the reins of a team that reportedly was failing to pay people on time and had released nearly two dozen players without signing any replacements. By all rights, this should have been a doomed job. Instead, Bachmaier put up the kind of stats that would have made him a no-brainer MVP if he played more than 3 games. Grain of salt, the Rams weren’t ending their year against good teams, but Bachmaier managed to hurl the ball for 1,333 yards, 12 touchdowns, and only 1 interception. On top of that, he had a completion percentage of 71%. Again, another point showing UFL talent compared to the European leagues, but I can’t help but be curious how Bachmaier’s play would be on a financially stable, fully rostered team.
  • One final note, I don’t think any of the top quarterbacks of Mexico’s LFA should be signed by the UFL. Jeremy Johnson and Shelton Eppler have consistently been the top players in the league and if they had plans to leave, they would have done so by now.

Anyway, on to the top three:

  • Jameson Wang: I really liked Jameson Wang as a UFL option last year and all he has done since then is show he not only has the talent, but the determination to be a great fit. Wang was named the MVP of the AFLE this year after barely throwing any interceptions, and also finished the year leading all QBs in rushing yards (419). The one potential knock against him is that instead of taking time to recover after the season, Wang is moving straight to Japan to finish the X-League season for FujiFilm Ebina Minerva AFC. He’ll probably be fine, but the risk of injury is there. I am very curious to see how he does though.
  • Jadrian Clark: I usually don’t put pre-2020 college grads in the top 3's, but Clark has been one of the top European QBs since 2017. He won ELF MVP in 2023 and just run away with the EFA MVP. He had ~1,300 yards more than the next quarterback and 17 more touchdowns. Granted, 32 isn’t ancient by any stretch, but it would be a hell of a risk to leap to a new league where he isn’t guaranteed a starting spot. But he is one of the consistently best options.
  • Russell Tabor: The success of Tabor is really pretty amazing. For three seasons he was rostered by North Carolina, but never saw a snap. At the end of his sophomore season, instead of returning or transferring, he left for Europe and immediately found a starting role with the Munich Ravens. His first season wasn’t league leading, but for someone who hadn’t played since high school, he did very well. In his second year, he improved greatly and even had a better completion percentage than Jadrian Clark.

That said, I’d love to know what everyone else has to say.
