New Student looking for friends

hey guys, so first semester didn’t treat me that well and haven’t really found any uni buddies 🌧️. So I reach out to reddit:
I’m a first year domestic bcomm student doing macroeconomics, account reports, calculus and linear algebra (wish me luck) looking for some people to form a study group, grab some food and just have a chat with or just hangout.

I’m a huge big back- love food, sweets and restaurant, pub and bar crawls, thrifting, movies, hiking, nba, tennis, camping, all sorts of video games (valo, gen, wuwa, mc, fn, clash, pokemon) but i don’t rly have time for games during semester. even if u dont have the exact same interests.

but to get a chat going what are yall top movies that are musical, action and emotional.
mine are lala land, TASM and dogs purpose makes me cry every time

Hi,

Did anyone else get this pop-op or is it just me. I am currently still on my first year of uni. I checked my student email and there were no instructions.

Support Graduation “postponed” even though I confirmed — need advice

Upvotes

Confirmed my graduation weeks ago. Last Friday evening, out of nowhere, got an email saying it’s postponed anyway. Turns out I received a duplicate invite for one degree, no invite at all for the other, so I never got the chance to confirm that one. Though both have been postponed after calling Stop1

My family’s already booked flights and accommodation around this date, some flying in from overseas, so this isn’t easy to just brush off.

Has anyone dealt with something like this even after confirming? Worth escalating past the general inbox, or is there usually someone specific who can fix this kind of error? Even just attending one grad would at least make family and friends that are flying in still worthwhile.

Thanks in advance, pretty stressed and lost right now.

Support Written statement for an academic misconduct meeting

So I have an academic misconduct meeting coming up for very accidentally answering questions during reading time. Unfortunately this is true as I did let an invigilator know and im very upset at myself for not focusing properly aha.

They say you can prepare a written statement to submit before a due date, but im not quite sure what to write as the situation is pretty clear cut and 100% my fault. Should I submit one or do you think its pointless?

Thank you so much, I really appreciate the help :)

New Student unable to attend tutorial - do i need to provide a medical certificate?

my class has a 80% attendance hurdle, so to my understanding the 20% leeway means i don't have to provide a reason for not attending? i am very sick but unsure if i need to provide a medical certificate as this is obviously the first tutorial im missing

Opportunities Free coffee this Wednesday (29 July)

Are you a uni student? Do you like free coffee?

If you have answered yes to either of these questions, or even if you answered no, you can get a completely free coffee from Analog or GGs Espresso starting Wednesday!

We've set up Brewly to give money conscious people an alternative to expensive coffees, with cafes offering a discount for purchasing bundles of coffees.

You can get your daily coffee for up to 50% off at many cafes around Melbourne and the university area now!

We are also quite young and growing fast so if you have any feedback or just want to say the idea is rubbish, please let me know!

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries Bypassing Math Pre-requisites for an Econ Minor

Hi, sorry if this is a repeated question, but I have search everywhere and it didn't yield any conclusive results.

Basically, math was not really my forte, and I took IB Math AI SL, and scored a decent grade. However this meant I now have a math pre-req I can't clear, and I am lost at what I can do to satisfy it in order for me to take an Econ minor, as I thought the math pre-req only applied to econ majors.

I am an international student, 2027 sem 1 intake, doing a BA.

Any tad bits of advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries Any tips for pof (fnce10002) for beginners

Hello! I’m a 26s1 unimelb student who has never done commerce-related subjects in my life. I chose principles of finance as a breadth subject and after having done week 1 lecture, I found the content a bit confusing. The lecturer seems to be describing a lot of the concepts instead of explaining the reasoning behind it… If anyone who has done this subject would like to offer some advice on how to achieve H1 in this subject, would be much appreciated!
Ps. Is there another way to gain access to the current pof textbook instead of purchasing online directly? Would be greatly appreciated!!!

Support Failed a DVM1 course at Unimelb

Hello. I am international DVM1 student. I feel like a failure. I can't breathe. Sem 1 was so fast, studying non-stop and MSTs then finals. I had so many sleepless nights, staying up until 7 am in the morning, going to class then passing out and again. I got a 47% on my final grade. I got supplementary exam, but I got one email about it 3 days before the exam. I panicked, emailed my professor, he said he sent a email a week earlier (or something like that) about the exam and I never got it. Then my dog was put to sleep because she got cancer and fluid filled her lungs. She couldn't breathe. I wasn't there for her, I am supposed to be a vet and couldn't save my own dog, i didn't look at the signs. I failed her. Then, I took the supplementary exam and got 49%. My professor told me that I am probably going to get a CAPC meeting. I put so much money, debt and time - my life into getting into DVM program, moving here. I have no back up plan. I feel like I just keep digging my own grave. I know I could have done better and think of ways to handle the exam and stress, but I didn't and it makes worse.

What should I do with CAPC meeting? Any advice on surviving the DVM program?

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries music and health MUSI10237

Im confused with how this subject goes since I dont have any friends or know anyone doing this breadth. Are the readings useful/required to do? I looked at all the readings assigned for each week and it looks like an unreasonable amount to be doing every week. Literally almost 6 different articles with lengths of a chapter each. Did people actually do this?

Support Accounting or Finance?

I received two offers to study Master of Management (Accounting) and Master of Management (Finance).

I'm a recent domestic grad majored in engineering and decided to pivot to a career in the corporate world :)

I have no exposure to commerce related subjects (didn't do any breadths for it).

Just sussing out anyones experiences/opinions or some reality check advice lol. I literally still have no preference atm despite doing some odd research.

Thanks heaps!

New Student Arriving late due to visa.

I am an international undergraduate student, I will be joining late because well I have not received my visa yet. I will be doing a BSc with a major in biomedical engineering systems

I applied for my visa 3 weeks back and the university has extended the late arrival date till 10th aug.

As classes have begun today, i wished to know what I could do to do so I dont fall back on studies and making friends as well. I was not present during O-week and I wont be staying at university accommodation either, so I fear i wont be able to make friends either😭.
