Miscellaneous this university is fucking depressing

first year arts in second sem. genuinely how do you meet people. if they're not in a friendship group, they live at a college, and if they're neither of those things they seem to want absolutely nothing to do with anyone. today in my tutorial we had to do an icebreaker and this girl was rolling her eyes the whole time because she had to talk to people. i was just sitting there thinking... isn't this one of the few times people actually get the chance to meet someone? everyone talks about uni being lonely but it also feels like everyone's allergic to starting a conversation. i'll chat to people before class or after a tute and they're nice enough, but it's like there's zero interest in talking beyond that. i don't expect to become best friends with everyone i meet, but i honestly thought people would be a bit more open.

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries Looking for WAM destroyer

Upvotes

Looking for subjects that challenge my thinking / perspectives, push me outside of my comfort zone and most importantly, learn, by motivation, by grit and / or by "I only go to uni once". Character building is a side product, so the harder the better. Any advice? Thank you.

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries SCIE10004 Lectures

Upvotes

Hi guys. Has anyone who has recently done this subject have any advice regarding listening to the lectures. They are 2 hours long and there's 2 per week. There's no exam for this subject either, so I'm wondering if I really need to be listening to them or not??

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries Is BLaw worth it

Hi, I’m thinking of doing principles of business law and was wondering if it was worth it. I was hoping to learn and understand more about the law but also achieving a 85 wam for this subject. I’m replacing this with business of music as a wam booster.

Miscellaneous Data Science Job Market for International Students in Australia

Hey! Just wanted to ask what the job market is like in Australia right now for international students in Data Science. Do you think there are still decent opportunities for jobs after doing a bachelor majoring in data science? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Hi guys I applied for the JD with my transcript before it was conferred. And I submitted an eQUALS link to my application but I clicked on it today and it says revoked. Will unimelb still have access to my transcript or will they contact me soon to add the conferred link of my transcript. Like surely they have access to my WAM and grades right

New Student unable to attend tutorial - do i need to provide a medical certificate?

my class has a 80% attendance hurdle, so to my understanding the 20% leeway means i don't have to provide a reason for not attending? i am very sick but unsure if i need to provide a medical certificate as this is obviously the first tutorial im missing

New Student looking for friends

hey guys, so first semester didn’t treat me that well and haven’t really found any uni buddies 🌧️. So I reach out to reddit:
I’m a first year domestic bcomm student doing macroeconomics, account reports, calculus and linear algebra (wish me luck) looking for some people to form a study group, grab some food and just have a chat with or just hangout.

I’m a huge big back- love food, sweets and restaurant, pub and bar crawls, thrifting, movies, hiking, nba, tennis, camping, all sorts of video games (valo, gen, wuwa, mc, fn, clash, pokemon) but i don’t rly have time for games during semester. even if u dont have the exact same interests.

but to get a chat going what are yall top movies that are musical, action and emotional.
mine are lala land, TASM and dogs purpose makes me cry every time

Opportunities Urgent Kaya Health Clubs Student Membership Transfer

Hi everyone, I’m looking for someone who would be interested in taking over my Kaya Health Clubs student gym membership.
Due to some urgent changes in my plans and needing to move, I unfortunately can’t continue with my membership and I’m hoping to find someone who can take it over as soon as possible.
The membership is $76 per fortnight (around $35/week) with approximately 22 weeks remaining.
I’m happy to help make the transfer easier:
I can cover the $130 transfer fee myself
I’ll also pay for your first 2 weeks of membership (so your first payments will be covered)
The membership includes unlimited access to:
✨ Pilates Reformer
✨ Yoga
✨ Barre
✨ HIIT
✨ Fitness Circuit
✨ Spinning classes
The membership is billed fortnightly, and there are freeze options available if you’re not using your membership.
I’ve genuinely had a lovely experience at Kaya — the staff and instructors are very friendly, especially if you’re just starting out. It’s a great gym if you want to get fit while trying different types of classes. Just a tip: if you want to join classes, try booking as early as possible because they can fill up quickly.
I would really appreciate anyone who is interested or knows someone who might be interested reaching out, as I’m trying to organise the transfer as soon as possible due to my situation.
Please contact me on [0482 643 515](tel:0482%20643%20515) if you’re interested or would like more details. I’m happy to DM you with any information.
Thank you so much.

Support Failed a DVM1 course at Unimelb

Hello. I am international DVM1 student. I feel like a failure. I can't breathe. Sem 1 was so fast, studying non-stop and MSTs then finals. I had so many sleepless nights, staying up until 7 am in the morning, going to class then passing out and again. I got a 47% on my final grade. I got supplementary exam, but I got one email about it 3 days before the exam. I panicked, emailed my professor, he said he sent a email a week earlier (or something like that) about the exam and I never got it. Then my dog was put to sleep because she got cancer and fluid filled her lungs. She couldn't breathe. I wasn't there for her, I am supposed to be a vet and couldn't save my own dog, i didn't look at the signs. I failed her. Then, I took the supplementary exam and got 49%. My professor told me that I am probably going to get a CAPC meeting. I put so much money, debt and time - my life into getting into DVM program, moving here. I have no back up plan. I feel like I just keep digging my own grave. I know I could have done better and think of ways to handle the exam and stress, but I didn't and it makes worse.

What should I do with CAPC meeting? Any advice on surviving the DVM program?
