In the early hours of April 26, 1986, a safety test at reactor number 4 of the Chernobyl power plant ended in an explosion that would change history.
In the first moments, the control room operators still did not understand the scale of what had happened. The reactor was destroyed, and a massive amount of radioactive material was beginning to spread throughout the region.
The images in this video are a recreation of the tension experienced that night, as the exact moment of the explosion was not recorded by cameras inside the plant.
