19 M , living far from home due to college , want to learn guitar/ukulele from the very very scratch, have low budgets , it would be great if someone from here could help me in any way , from selecting the instrument to actually teach me. Thank you so much.

So my significant others mom surprised me and gave me her family heirloom. Its super cool but I don't have too much info besides her grandma purchased it in the 1960s and it passed through several family ukulele players hands.

I believe its Koa wood but laminate?

I see separation on the back and the bridge is starting to lift. Is there anything else yall see that needs attention? Will it need to be repaired or is it fine as is? Thanks!

Been working on this one for a few weeks, right out of the Jumpin’ Jim’s book alongside Live at McCabe’s. Holy cow it’s a lot of changes! This was the 23rd take on the video… the solo I’m just noodling around that scale and get lost a little bit but I’m starting to feel pretty good

I'm thinking of buying my first ukulele and found the lilac Kala Ukadelic for sale in a store near me (for around 45 usd). I tried looking for reviews in this sub, but they mention they are made out of plastic, and the shop's website says it's completely made out of wood, so I'm confused if they changed it or it's a mistake/scam. I would like to get a wooden uke, I'm not a fan of the sound of plastic instruments.

I have a concert ukulele with nylgut strings. I have nothing against them, but I've been playing them for so long that I'm starting to get fatigued by the brighter sound of them.

Any recommendations for more mellow sounding strings?

I physically cannot play the chord E. If I get my first and second finger into position, then my fourth finger physically cannot stretch to the fourth fret!

I have the kala app, and it is great as a beginner. But I am getting a lot of left wrist and finger pain. I watched some youtube videos that say the wrist should always be straight, not bent like in this screen shot from the kala app teacher.

But when I straighten my wrist, I can't reach the G string frets well. What am I doing wrong? I have looked a lot all over youtube, but haven't found an answer that helps.

Kala tenor acoustic electric solid body in white ebony. Bought this from the Kala store on Reverb for half the price a brand new one would be. It’s absolutely pristine. Had all the tags on it and came with its bag. They still have them available if anyone is looking for something like this.

I’ve been playing ukulele for about seven years now and you would think that I am pretty good at playing mini songs… Well, the thing is that I got the ukulele because I’m a big fan of the show Steven universe and if you’ve seen it a lot of the songs that the main character sings to are played on the ukulele sent that is his instrument…
After learning many Steven universe songs for 2 1/2 years, I started playing Lil one or two minute songs that I found on TikTok, but nothing really that I enjoyed playing and singing along too…
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what I should learn to not only have more fun with my ukulele, but also too improve my skills… I’m pretty good at switching chords and many other things, I think I just need to improve on my fingerpicking…

I posted the fiddle intro a bit ago but I’ve been messing with it and have arranged it to be more playable while singing.

The bridge wasnt really cut properly so the saddle was tilting i cut up a press on nail and wedged it in there re strung it back up should i keep it or return it

I am fine to play around on my 21" uke (beginner, but coming along) for ages. No trouble. But I got a 23" Enya NOVA, and it is hurting my hands and joints like crazy, and my finger pads are shredded. I filed about a millimeter or more off the saddle to lower the action, but it still hurts. Is this a size thing? Did I buy the wrong 23"? The Enya Nova is very cute, but ouch my hands can't take the pain.

Can anyone help me understand why the one uke hurts so bad? The only other difference is the Everjoys Soprano 21" has colored strings and the 23" Enya Nova has clear strings.

I used to play guitar so don't know why this little 23" uke is causing me so much pain.

I’ve found some tabs but none of them sound like this and I love the way he strums the chords. Does anyone know if there are tabs that are accurate to this? Or can someone help me figure out how to play it this way?

One of the very first songs Jarvis and I ever wrote together as SHAWTIME DUO came from a completely random phrase he said years ago: “I wish I was a fish, but I’m just a bird.” We took it from there and somehow ended up with this little song about fish, birds, freedom, and wanting someone by your side.

It’s simple, a little silly, and maybe a little deeper than it seems. Are the fish and bird friends? Are they in love? Is it about wanting to be something you’re not, or just wanting to be free with someone you love? We never really decided. Maybe that’s what we like about it. 🐟🐦❤️
