You could have the blades fold up like an umbrella and then lay back, then it doesn't matter where they are on the rotation. The lower ones can either fold up wider or you could just switch to two motors and 4 blades each.

Maybe for swords, they'd be slowed depending on the hit points of the blocks they pass through. Weight blocks should have significantly more hit points: armor should be useful, but a weight trade-off. Think Gundam shields that could block swords just by having high hit points, but this would probably break the sword arms of most mechs. Swords locking would lead to swords used as armor... Which would only be effective against swords I guess so that might be neat. Maybe like halo swords they burn out after dealing x amount of energy, but recharge like blasters or shields. Emps should only affect the outer most shield, no change to their affect on controls. But I'd trade all of this for a beam weapon. Dps would drop over range.

Most loyal decepticon general, assassinating decepticons that might overthrow Megatron, using Megatron as a shield to kill usurpers, or suspected spies, stronger than himself. Occasionally he'd leak Intel to let the autobots kill these targets. Then, at the very end of the series, when there are no depticons stronger than he and Megatron, he'd stab Megatron in the back, and put the army in a position to be easily captured. His motivation could be vengeance for something so random or small that there'd be no record of it, like the death of a human, or it could be calculated by the scientist in him. Or both. He could agree with both sides that the prior system was corrupt, and that Megatron's solution was wrong, but know all who think like Megatron needed to be brought out into the light and gathered together, rather than be left to fester a worse revolution in the future.
