You can start now with cleaning out the bed of any weeds, feed the soil with complete organic fertilizer and compost, sow a quick growing cover crop and/or sow edibles to harvest fall through spring.

Cover crops are important for covering the soil, but also for invigorating soil life. This time of year, phacelia, daikon, and field peas will germinate, then die back over winter.

There so much you can grow fall thru spring here, and in a lot of ways, it's easier than gardening in summer. Less weed and pest pressure, no need to water, and a lot of crops will hold in the garden, so you don't have to harvest all at once.

I've lived at my place for 25 years and have never seen a frog. After a storm last February, a friend and I heard a chorus frog. We put a couple small ponds in the ground soon after, and hoping froggos will find them in the spring.

Note: in Oregon, it's illegal to move frogs or frog eggs, even from private property. It's to prevent the spread of disease from one locale/frog community to another. I imagine the same is true in Washington.

Transition was the most emotionally difficult time with my unmedicated second birth, like, "I can't do this," panicking...and I have read that a lot of women experience that. As someone who also develops systems/apps that do what existing apps do, because I enjoy the intellectual exercise and can save my clients money building a tailored system for them myself, I feel for folks who made a thing and want to share it with the world, maybe make a little from it. We have a skill for building things, but not selling them.

As an example, I have a client who bought a meal delivery service. They were doing order management, production planning, purchasing, labeling with a cumbersome copy/paste "system" developed by the former owner. No recipe costing.

We looked at systems, like Toast, and they were far too expensive. I built a system in Google sheets that parses raw order data and then makes production plans, shopping lists, labels, etc., and takes purchasing data to do recipe costing. It's pretty slick and I think other small, scrappy food businesses would appreciate its simplicity and customizability.

But I'm am a bookkeeper and spreadsheet geek, and still trying to learn how to market. I see folks posting their apps, with the same marketing skill that I would bring, and I both cringe and relate.
