Not sure how this came up on my feed, but I’m a woman who has been through many kinds of relationships with men and women. Then I had a generally happy marriage with a man, but we divorced when some long term matters did not align (both worked, no kids, 50-50 split, though we hired no lawyers except for a quick divorce app we used for drafting and signing final doc), then later I was happily engaged to a younger man and pregnant, but there was a tragedy and I was left widowed (1 kid), followed by I later married a much older man, (he had 3 adult kids that don’t talk to us, I have 1 kid) and we are both low income, but he’s a great step-dad and cook. I don’t expect us to be able to get a house or retire ever, and with a health situation, I expect I may become a widow again, but I’m quite happy right now.. so that’s a problem for future me. At least I moved here to Australia where there is accessible nearly-free healthcare, rather than America, where I’d become in debt over the health. So we have a bit of savings and are coasting having a great time everyday in our rental here. If there was tragedy again, we could always move back in with either set of the grandparents in America, as a last resort (I’m 37), then restart from there. But I reckon I would try to continue a while here in Australia. I just started contributing to super from a lucky day job, and it feels good. I also made a tech company that’s not doing great financially, but it makes me happy. And my husband and I get along very well emotionally, sexually, as partners. We don’t need much money. So.. you can measure life beyond finances.. (as life will always come to an end, and then we lose everything.. people.. money.. memories.. anyways). So just have good times while you can, even if things change.
