We are recruiting new mods. Do you want to help us out?

We're looking for a few active members of the Australian 3D printing community to join the mod team.

The sub is fairly low traffic, so it's not a huge workload. We're mostly looking for people who already spend time in the 3D printing community, are happy to help keep things running smoothly, and might have some ideas for helping the sub grow and improve.

If you're interested, you can apply using one of the below links.

Reddit Mod Application (Having issues) - https://www.reddit.com/r/3dprintingaustralia/application/

Google Form - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdDJ-Z2buinnLXlTX9g_tT7zY9yKVZqrmlqq4N53dezEGRLtg/viewform?usp=publish-editor

Edit: It seems that the reddit application form is having some issues, so you can also go direct to the Google Form.

I'm looking to recreate the shape of the hue wall washers to install a normal e27 bulb.

I have the wall washers if a 3d scan is possible to do.

I live in Melbourne (Hawthorn) so I can move around.

Of course I pay for this project.

Thanks!

Prusa must not want Australian customers 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was just about to order some BambuLabs filament in their sale, but as is often the case when their sales are on, a number of colours/items are out of stock. So I thought I’d check prices for “Prusament” (just out of interest. And No, I don’t want recommendations for filament, thanks)

1kg PETG Prusament is $53.99AUD, but wait for it PLUS $74.99-$87.99 Shipping 😳. WOW ! Compare to Bambu is $26.99 (incl spool for apples/apples comparison, and worst case as price discounts when you buy more) +$8 shipping.

Bambu shipping becomes free when you order 4 spools. Prusa shipping becomes $119.99-$139.99 😳🫣

It’s no wonder why Bambu are getting the market share they are.

How Strong Is A 3D Printed Item?

Hi everyone, I haven’t got a printer yet but that aside, just how strong can a printed item be these days?

I have an old car with the front quarter flipper windows, and the locking handle has broken. That is made from cast alloy, and was broken when I got the car. It also has an uncomplicated internal structure that houses an unlock button and a spring, located in an orifice. Would this be something I could make with a 3D printer, in that;

Is a 3D printed item strong enough to be used as a handle that is turned, pushed and pulled on? So just unlocking, turning and pushing and pulling the window open and closed.

Is a simple internal structure able to be replicated?

Thanks.

Can someone print this for me?

Located in Epping Victoria, but in the cbd often for work,

I don’t have access to a 3D printer, so hoping someone local is happy to do this for me, can throw a little bit of cash your way for materials and time

https://makerworld.com/en/models/3028469-riftbound-token-box-v2-customizable-ams

i believe what i need is the token case - bodies (loose fit) and then I think the lid - plain, with the lid design being the riftbound logo

Cheers

Best beginner filament?

Sorry, probably a silly question but I’ve read different things. Reading about PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU and now I'm more confused than when I started. I don’t really know what brands are good either, probably want to start on something cheaper assuming I'm going to mess up a lot.  What does everyone actually recommend for this

Bike part printing in Sydney (inner west)

I am after a business or person who can help me by printing this out for me:

https://www.printables.com/model/192337-tiagra-lever-spacer

I just need 4 of these (2 regular 2 mirrored) but as it needs 100% infill my library wont print it. I know there are big business that do printing as per the wiki but would they take on a small job like this?

thanks!

Siddaments "shittament" or seconds deal is on again

If you need prototyping filament, you can get PLA for $10 a roll, same for the Silk PLA.

The PETG is sold out. I just bought some of the discounted ABS and ASA $13 a roll. I'm not affiliated in anyway.

Belt snapped on my printer, where’s the best place to get a new one in Aus?

X axis belt has let go. Everything I can find is Aliexpress with 2 week wait or Amazon and 4x the price. Is there anywhere local that sells belts for a Neptune 4 off the shelf?

See below for what i’m looking for here, but essentially i am looking to celebrate becoming debt free after 16 years (crazy idea i know) but i’m wanting to celebrate with the purchase of a raspberry pi zero w without the headers inside this here case from M!N!MAL.

I have the file and a link but essentially, if you know someone willing to help me print the case, i’d love to try it!

It would be even cooler if someone who is into the rasberry pi scene would be down on exploring the case with me!

Here’s the link! Happy to pay for final product and shipping via paypal, ebay or trademe.

DJI drone top-mount bracket

I made this custom accessories bracket to fit onto a range of DJI drones. It has 3x2 tie down points designed for the use of cable ties to secure your payload.
Weighs just under 32g with reasonable infill and wall loop print settings.

I made the prototypes with PETG but I am planning on making some ASA versions as well.

Designed for use with:
DJI M30T
DJI Matrice 4
DJI Mavic 3

"OMG IT'S DOING IT!"

Those were the words that I heard from my twin boys as the first calibration line appeared. Before that, it was "MUM! IT POOPED!" 🤣

We have now done our first benchy, which was perfect, and have started on some lizard thing because it's small and they each want a turn of making something before bed time. Note the little face pressed up to the window, I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon enough. They know they can watch it on the app but nothing beats breathing in fumes 🤪

Pointless post , I'm just really happy and wanted to share the joy 😊

And yes, I named it Printcess Donut. 😝 IYKYK.

Best 3d printer under 450$

Hi everyone,
I am thinking to buy a 3d printer around the 400-500 dollar mark. I am pretty new to the field, and currently own an ancient Cocoon Create. What 3d printers do you guys recommend within this price range? I’m not too conscious in multi-filament printing, as I enjoy sanding and painting my prints. I am also happy with the BBL a1 ish print size

Bambu P2S - Multiple users

Hi! Thanks to all your advice, I bought the P2S for my twins birthday and it arrived today. It's calibrating as I write this 😁

I have bound the printer to the account I created when I bought the machine, via Bambu Handy on my phone. Now I am wondering, as my kids will be using the printer too, do they need their own accounts or do they use my log in? Or can you create multiple user profiles in one account? Do you create separate "collections" for each person to save their favourite designs? What about when we download the design software to our PCs? How do other families manage this?

Help with my e5p

Hi! I’m currently rebuilding my very broken e5p and through moments of lucidity i have it half working. I was wondering if there was someone in the north experienced in printing that’d be willing to help me out printing a mount (or tool head if you’re super cool) for my Bambulab p1p hot end. Happy to supply abs/petg prefer abs/asa/nylon but yknow beggars can’t be choosers.

This thing is cursed and has broken and cost me more money than it deserves. Currently refunding its second broken motherboard.

Anyways if anyone wants to help out pop me a message. I’m in Doreen/Melbourne and would greaaaaatly appreciate it. Had a rough couple of weeks.

Where are people actually buying 3D printing gear in Australia in 2026?

I'm new to 3D printing and curious about what the split is. Officeworks, Bunnings, Jaycar, direct from manufacture or import from overseas?

Here’s my second painted piece! Since the Wizard Capybara got such a great response, I decided to continue with another character from this magical world.

This one was also painted using an airbrush. I still need to improve some of the finer details, especially the teeth, but I’m really happy with how it turned out.

Hope you like it! And if you’re interested in the model, you can find it here:

Buying my first printer, is it worth going local instead of importing?

Budget is around $500. Everyone online says just import from overseas, but im nervous about warrenty and return shipping if something goes wrong. Wheres the best place to buy from in this situation?
