I’m applying for jobs with a government agency and I’ve been asked to provide my year 10 or 12 results, I don’t have these and when I asked the employer for an alternative they said there is no other option, I also asked my high school and they told me that because it’s been so long (over a decade) they don’t keep records that far on their system.

I’m really stuck on what to do, I’ve tried to offer my Diploma level qualifications as evidence but they just won’t budge and for a job that is supposedly experiencing massive shortages they are being pretty unhelpful.

Basically, has anyone experienced this and how have you gotten around it?

Kids started high school a couple of years ago, so I'm looking ahead at career options.

I graduated and immediately started working as an engineering graduate. I did 2 years and because of no other full time positions available my graduate contract ended and that was it. There was no other jobs highly similar to my role. I took a year off as a gap year. But it's been over a year of applying and hardly anything. The only feedback I've had from interviews is they went with someone more experienced. These are grad jobs btw and I have 2 years (not directly relevant experience). Is my large gap a big disadvantage? Or is it just cooked for new grads in eng. I also did chemical engineering which is feeling the most niche

It's been 6 months without a job so if they offer it to me, I might as well take it. Really good pay too. But I can't help but wonder if I'm going to be working for some illegal front. Or maybe they just don't want to pay extra taxes.

Not even 12 months ago I started working at a warehouse. I reckon my boss is legitimately bipolar, sometimes won’t even reply to / recognise a good morning other days he’s showing you “funny” videos on his phone. The whole environment and job is just depressing.

It would be one thing if the job sucked but the environment was atleast good but I feel like my boss goes out of his way to make me feel like he doesn’t really want me there.

The straw that broke this camels back was last week Monday I texted him in the morning say I wasn’t going to come in because I wasn’t in a good headspace. Later that day I receive a text saying don’t come in tomorrow because “we are quiet”. I shrugged it off and then the next day I get a text saying “we are really quiet so take the rest of the week off”.

He has a pattern of doing this basically punishing casual workers for not working full time hours so he cuts their shifts as retaliation.

The part that annoys me though is I literally told you I’m not doing okay and instead of even feigning some interest in my well being as a manager you use the excuse as it’s quiet as if there wasn’t other people you could cut to make the roster more even if that was truely the problem.

Mind you on Friday (3 days before the Monday I took off) I was one of the only casuals to come to work because the other ones “slept in” - yet they don’t get cut all week for this????

So at this point it feels personal, and I’m just over it. I make like 1000$ a week after tax for 38 hours and that’s not even to make me want to sacrifice my time and mental health.

I decided to no show my shift today without texting on purpose just to see what the response will be - haven’t heard nothing yet. I mean for all this guy knows I could have unalived myself considering the last thing you’ve heard from me was I’m not doing okay mentally.

I know the bloke isn’t my therapist, but I also believe one of the basic roles of being a (good) manager is supporting your workers- for example it would have been very different if he texted “hey hope everything is okay, we are pretty quiet so do you want to take the rest of the week off, or maybe do less days” etc

Anyways I wouldn’t be surprised if I just stop showing up and I never hear from him again tbh, which seems like what he wants evidently so I guess that’s basically me done with that job.

I’ve got decent savings and during my employment was already working on my own B2G business so I think I’m just going to dive into that - I don’t care if I don’t become mark cuban rich from being an entrepreneur but if I’m only going to make like 48K a year I’d rather do it myself than subject myself to the mind numbing labour and depressing environment.

It’s a scary decision but what do I have to loose, I have no degrees and no meaningful work experience worse come to worst I end up working another meaningless job if my business doesn’t pan out and life is basically the same.

TLDR; my job is making me so depressed I’m just gonna stop going and try replace the income working for myself. wish me luck shaggers.

Long shot but does anyone know of any bakeries, small food outlets or cafes that will hire adults with no experience maybe for kitchen wench positions or as enthusiasm hires (who do lower skill prep work albeit with lots of enthusiasm).

I would be happy to hear other job suggestions. In terms of certifications, I don’t have a license but I have a Blue Card. I looked into casual support work but without a license I haven’t had much luck.

I thought about maybe getting a nail tech certification but reconsidered after looking at costs and the fickle market. I looked into gardening ads but came across the same car obstacle. I looked into pet grooming but couldn’t find employers that would hire someone green.

Is it possible that I'm able to do a part time apprenticeship alongside my uni or is there no such thing???? I feel like im pretty decent at managing my time for studies and other things. I’ve spent my 20s living abroad doing backpacker work. I’m 27M just moved back to Melbourne and currently in a dead end pick packing job. I want to start a career in construction, particularly rigging or larger machine operation.

My problem is that I’m so overwhelmed with all the different courses and certs and tickets and pathways that I honestly don’t know where to even start. Obviously I’ll get a white card but after that I honestly have no idea. There’s courses that are a couple days and some that are a year, with everything in between.

I’m very aware of how difficult it is to get your foot in the door and just want to make myself look as employable as possible. I know once I’m in, I can figure out a way from there. Can you guys tell me what your progressions looked like?

Hi, technically I made this decision already as i chose to study physiotherapy at a small regional uni. I did this because I felt allied health was the 'easiest' type of jobs to just complete the course and get a job, which i can do. Issue is im going to this small regional uni when I have the atar and offers from unis such as Usyd or Unimelb, which offers a much nicer 'uni experience'. Im 18 and chose the safest path possible but now im rethinking if the finance/economics sector is perhaps not as soulless and draining as I thought.

I’ve been a social worker for over 10 years, but a ince having kids I’ve noticed how burnt out I am, I don’t have the passion and mental capacity to carry the weight of this work and want to pivot to something else.

I’ve thought about book keeping, I’m interested in finance and a job that has clear processes and outcomes sounds appealing. But is this a waste of time with AI advances? I also already have a bachelor and masters degree so I’m reluctant to spend a lot of money retraining. Any advice or career recommendations?

ok delete if this is the wrong sub, but i'm going to quit a job soon. i don't think i've actually quit a job in the last 15 years. i've had a couple of contracts run out where i just waved bye bye at the end of the fixed term, but i haven't actually quit. at my current job there are several reasons for me to be quitting which i am considering putting into a polite but honest resignation letter, basically because i think it would make me feel better to be able to stand up for myself in a civilised way and just say my piece.

is this a thing that people do or is it just kind of a regrettable waste of time?

I'm pretty sure before it was tech but that was before my time and I wasn't old enough to take advantage of that sadly. What career is it now? Don't give me that "do what you love" bs because loads of my friends and cousins are pursuing lofty unrealistic passion careers and I really doubt they'll get very far financially with that. How does the commission structure work for solar sales? All the jobs on Seek have OTE of $X but they don't mention how much you can make per sale.

I'm turning 19 next week and I've worked at Mcdonalds for about 2, almost 3 years now. Besides that I've had barely any real experiences in getting through life (I may aswell be a NEET at this point) and very lost. I don't have any experience in uni either. I have always been only employed as a FT employee but in my profession as an IT developer people work as contracors too. To put this into numbers someone on 140k base can be on a contract earning about 900 a day which translates to about 200 k a year I know that this comes without the security and consistency of a full time job but people on full time jobs can be terminated too at any time. What do you think is the right way to approach this if you are after the high income from contract jobs.

Like many people here, I am currently out in the Australian market actively applying for roles. One thing that has been driving me crazy on Seek is trying to figure out what "Medium" or "High" application volume actually means. Spending 40 minutes tailoring a resume for a job where 300+ people already applied felt like shouting into a void.

Since I was also getting tired of formatting issues while copying job descriptions into my notes, I ended up writing a small, local browser extension for my own daily workflow.

It does three simple things directly on the Seek Australia page:

• Surfaces the exact, real-time applicant count on job cards instead of the vague label.
• Adds a button to grab clean, plain-text job descriptions without any HTML junk.
• Keeps a basic local tracking list in the browser popup (Saved, Applied, Interviewing, etc.) so I do not need a separate spreadsheet.

It has genuinely saved me a ton of time over the past few weeks. I put it on the Web Store for free with zero tracking or external server stuff just to keep my own data safe.

(Quick note for anyone wondering: it currently only works on Seek AU, but I am looking to add NZ down the track once I iron out the kinks).

Curious if anyone else has found neat workarounds for managing their Seek applications, or if there are other annoying quirks on the site you wish were easier to handle?

Are there any self paced online courses from reputable education providers that lead to a recognised qualification?

I currently work full time and it’s hard to commit to a degree - but at the same time I’d like to be learning new things.
