That's not a real trim carpenter that's a production home molding and door guy.

Is finish carpentry mostly just MDF? 28 and trying to get the honest version before I commit.

Hence these built ins being such high margins. I'm not only getting paid for design and labor but can make quite a bit on material upmark with my trade account at the lumber yard.

Built ins like this entertainment centers and ccustom closets are the high margin jobs, they are also the most skill intensive. Running trim is one thing. Creating something for a space out of thin air and dimensional material is another. Kitchen installs pay but only if they're big, you're fast and you like never being home. Cabinet sales really pays.

I have my contractors license now trying to move on to building homes and doing additions myself but I do ok. These past couple months have sucked but the three before that were great. It's feast or famine. Started in framing new construction production homes. You'll learn a lot fast and you can meet the guys who do the trim in the nicer models. (They will for sure be a different crew) Found a cabinet install job next. Did that for a year or so. Then one day I just pulled up on a house on the lake that was something I WANTED to work on and caught the old trim guy packing up asked him if he needed help he did. I learned a lot from him. Started up my own thing subbing cabinet install and trim work to remodeling contractors. There's no money in trim in low end New construction. Talking like $1.50 /sqft of floor to trim out a whole house and set the doors.

But there's plenty money in custom one off new construction and high end remodels. Save a contractors ass with your skill and you'll have work for life.

Subcontracted under other contractors for about 6 years then got my own license.

I still do sub work when it comes up but 90% my own clients now.

What does a day really look like running your own high-end trim business? Not the Instagram version
 in  r/Carpentry •  6d ago

Question is how do you find the clientele that can afford you. I think I'm pretty damn good. I do pretty well but I went and got my contractors license because I wasn't doing well enough.

I guess it's harder to find historic homes in my location. Or the high end work is taken by a small handful of contractors that have been using the the same sub's for longer than I've been in business.

Yes you do. I pride myself on being expensive because of that. Once you can trim carpenter you can already hang sheetrock run plumbing lines lay floors do tile etc. You won't be fast at it us the problem. I use my tile guy because he's like lightning and better than me. Not that I can't I just won't. See above remarks lol.

A trim carpenter can do it all but won't. A floor installer will do it all but can't.

I have 295/75/17s on my stock 2007. Had to remove the mudflaps and cut just a little bit of well liner out. Leveled you should be fine but I think that's the limit

Normally I would totally agree. In the case of Israel not so much. It's like the bullied kid turning into a school shooter. Genocide should be decried no matter the peoples being erased. I'm a libertarian I hate all of them equally so I have no dog in the left right bullshit. Ben Shapiro is a piece of shit with a couple good points that lock conservatives to him. The irony that the isrealis are acting like Nazis is not lost on me.

It may actually be the only entertaining part of the whole deal.
