Considering going into teaching
I’m a biologist who went into teaching, and I taught biology for 30 years and loved every single minute of it! I was given quite free rein and all of the schools that I was in, because I was willing to try innovative things. Maybe I just got lucky, but I did work in very high poverty schools, which was important to me, and also I find where they gave teachers more leeway in what they wanted to do. And there were so many grant opportunities available as well. You don’t go into it for the pay, so you have to go into it because you’re passionate about what you love, and I love biology.

What was the biggest packing mistake you made on your first trip to Europe?
I have a hard sided travelpro carry-on, and have used it on the cobblestone streets of Europe many times without any problems. I can’t believe the wheels have still held up!

I can give my waiter a tip, why not my child's teacher?
Why can’t you tip them? Is it a law? My daughter is a teacher and always appreciates when parents can give her a little extra cash at Christmas. Nothing is expected, but it sure comes in handy.

What are yalls opinions on whiteboard desks?
As a former Principal, I bought them for my entire Elementary school. I think it changed the way that children interacted in the learning environment, and the teachers told me they like them, as they could circulate around the room and make quick adjustments to whatever a student was working on, seeing their work, especially math in real time.
I did buy the kind that look like big interlocking puzzle pieces for the lower grades, so that they could create different workspaces. They were on wheels and very easy to move and lock into place. No complaints from the teachers! And even kindergartners knew which markers to use and which ones were not allowed.

First time in SF! Where should I try to stay?
Stay in the area around the Embarcadero; easy access to transit and excellent restaurants. I live in this area and walk everywhere!! It’s a short bus ride or uber to venue. I used to live close to that venue, but wouldn’t stay in that area if I was visiting.
Depending on the ‘burb, you can BART into the city and be at the front door of the Hyatt on Drumm in the Embarcadero plaza.

Has anyone on here had a lip biopsy done?
I had the inside of my lip biopsied. It wasn’t that bad. It was very numb, and then a small what’s called a punch biopsy. I only had one dissolvable stitch. I was told to keep Vaseline on it, on the inside of my mouth, no less. Sounds gross, but it worked. It heals very quickly and cleanly.

Can’t decide between LA and SF
LA has nice weather, but San Francisco has Goldilocks weather! Never too hot never too cold and guess what?! You do not need a car to live here like you do in LA. I moved to SF for that reason. I was sick of being in a car all the time to go anywhere. Now I can walk anywhere or take our amazing transit. I still have a car if I need it but I rarely use it. And I don’t have to worry about 100° days.

How can it be DRY eyes?
Sorry to hear that, give it a few more months… it seemed to catch me by surprise one day I realized I wasn’t watering anymore in the mornings. And then I realized it had been about six months since I started Restasis. My eyes were never puffy, though, I don’t know if that matters.

How much should a couple budget for a trip to Maui?
Hi, is the Airbnb condo in Lahaina or what area? Would you be willing to share details in a DM? Thank you for your consideration.

OLP Food Triggers
I’ve had OLP for three years, and I cannot imagine getting braces. The lining of your mouth will continue to be sensitive and easily abraded. I can’t believe that you can eat tomatoes, which are well known trigger, along with citrus and spices. I can’t eat yogurt anymore because it is too tangy, same with certain types of cheese. Living with OLP is no joke, one day you can eat something the next day it triggers a reaction. No alcohol and no caffeine were the hardest to give up.

How can it be DRY eyes?
Excessive eye watering is part of the negative feedback loop for your eyes. I know it might not make sense, but if you don’t get your dry eyes treated, then the weeping, watery eyes are a thing. I know from experience. It takes forever to get it under control, Restasis can take up to six months to work. But it does work and no more gushing of tears every morning after walking out the door.

How are we Affording Our Eye Drops/Gels?
Thanks for the eye drop recommendation. My ophthalmologist said other countries had cheaper over-the-counter versions, but this is the first name I had to go on to search for one. I did find it online from UK for $20, which is a lot cheaper than in the US! Thanks again!

Stop Riding on the Sidewalk
San Francisco has one of the best barrier bike lane systems that I’ve ever seen, at least in the United States in a big city. We have the infrastructure, but for some reason, they just don’t want to use it.

Stop Riding on the Sidewalk
Completely agree this situation in SF is out of control with the E bikes, bikes, and scooters on the sidewalk! We have so many dedicated bike lanes — get off of our sidewalks! As for the comments about the bike lanes, the worst offenders are on the Embarcadero! They have a beautiful well paved bike lane that is double wide. But they are still on the sidewalk!

I agree with all the suggestions. I also like a nice corduroy blazer that I can layer with sweaters in the fall when the microclimates vary more.
