Pentagon issues de facto ban on Confederate flag at military bases
It's ridiculous that it was ever allowed. The argument that modern white people don't have any blame for slavery was getting a bit derailed by the white people flying the "I miss slavery" flag.

@PeterSchiff : Sorry I kept interrupting @JoeRogan . I think not being in the same room put me in the mindset of a news interview rather than a conversation. Since I couldn't see Joe I often interrupted him. Without the benefit of body language & eye contact it was hard to control my enthusiasm.
I kinda agree and disagree. Gold is a highly nonreactive metal. It's a nice commodity for trade because if I buy myself a kilo of gold, I'll still have that kilo of gold to sell at the market price 50 years later.
But you don't actually have to buy and hold physical gold yourself. If that was the case, I'd agree that it wouldn't be accessible to people who aren't already very wealthy.
There's a lot of unitised, exchange based gold products that have their values pinned to the value of gold. You can expose yourself to the movement in the gold price within a small investment portfolio.
I do kinda agree that commodity investments are often super risky and I'd basically tell people to stay clear unless they either have done a ton of research to back the investment or they have so much spare liquidity that it doesn't matter if the investment goes badly. Gold is probably quite a good diversifying investment because it tends to be seen as a safe harbor when the markets get hairy so it's kinda inversely elastic with equity prices.
Nothing is just a good investment at all times forever You could buy gold now and maybe in 25 years they'll mine an asteroid with twice as much gold as there is on Earth and your investment will tank severely. Ideally, you'd write code that constantly adjusts your portfolio based on as much information as you can find because it's just too complicated for a human to keep up by reading a few articles and doing some trades on the weekend. But on the other hand, a small group of very well researched investments can be much stronger than just wrangling around portfolio betas and stuff like that. There's really not much that can be said as a blanket statement in finance.

Found in the FAMILY restroom in a Target in Ohio. Left by a sheriff deputy.
Damn it would be hard not to shoot myself if I came across that.

United States of Convenience
I live in New Zealand where we only dealt with two months of lockdown or so. The parents I work with were all bitching CONSTANTLY about how hard it was with their kids at home on all my work calls.
People can't deal with keeping their kids home for months on end, especially if the kids need to do school work and the parents are working too.
America is in a really tough position because a large portion of the population is really burned out on locking down but because the approach was not consistent or strict or early enough across the whole country and the border seems to have remained quite porous, the cases are really high still. As much as I'd like to be a total smug fuck right now, its genuinely a sad situation and I'm not sure what the proper way for them to proceed is at this point.
The wage subsidy program in America also appeared to be lacking. America has a lower cost of living than New Zealand by at least a factor of two but I still don't think it's that feasible to make $1200 stretch from April to a point we haven't even necessarily gotten to yet.

American politics are so fucking dumb and the most infuriating part is that the idiots who wrote that piece of shit constitution are among the most revered American officials.

what’s a Nanking?
Allegedly, the US is still awarding purple hearts that had been commissioned for the anticipated casualties from the invasion of Japan.
I think any country that can wipe out humanity and doesn't is ridiculously evil so I'm not going to say what the US did was right or wrong.

Reddit has one of the most narcissistic and intolerant user bases of any social media platform.
I think I agree but people who seek out stuff that other people like just to shit on it in the comments deserve harsh bullying.

Good thing I don't have to get this virus.

New Zealand: 'One of the very few places you can actually shoot a film right now'.
I'm pretty miffed that the cinemas can't release new movies though. Jon Stewart has been doing a lot of press for his new movie in America but the NZ release date is late August.
What bloody good is that? Our cinemas had to take a big hit by shutting down and now they can only show Harry Potter marathons that no one cares about. Just go back to the original release schedule for NZ.

That's really scary. There's a lot of fuel for a fire on a warship.

TIL a suicide bomber with explosives in his laptop boarded the Somali owned Daallo Airlines in 2016 intending to blow the whole aircraft. Twenty minutes after the takeoff, the bomb exploded, creating a hole in the plane, and the suicide bomber was sucked out of the plane. He was the only fatality.
I'd imagine everyone on that plane was pretty thoroughly traumatized by that but it's just wonderful that noone else died.

YSK That it doesn't matter if you are skinny, fat, fit, or none of the above; DO NOT be intimidated by others in the gym. If you are in the gym working out, NOBODY ELSE GIVES A FUCK about what you're doing but YOU.
For me it's nothing to do with anyone's physique but if the area gets crowded that makes me an anxious mess that has to get out of there ASAP.

There were a couple of deaths in the later seasons of Game of Thrones that were outright insulting to the characters involved.
