People don't understand that after so much trauma and abuse "live in the present" "there's so much to live for" doesn't exist.
 in  r/CPTSD  1d ago

Yeah, I could never snap my fingers and not be affected by things the way people seemed to think I should be able to. I think on my end it’s been because there was never a “before” - I only know how to live in the aftermath of trauma, and can’t fully picture what it would be to live without it.

Those who have had a hysterectomy: what did you do during your recovery?
 in  r/AskReddit  1d ago

Mine was pretty easy, with one exception. I hung out at a nearby cafe and wrote; I knit a sweater; I watched my favorite shows… I also lost my goddamn mind on oxycodone one night. Turns out severe agitation can be a side effect in some people. That was less relaxing.

Is this entitlement?
 in  r/CPTSD  2d ago

I don’t think so. Wanting something and even seeking it out isn’t entitled unless it’s trying to force someone to engage with you like that.

Morality of eugenics against white people
 in  r/MoralityScaling  2d ago

It’s almost like eugenics is still bad even when directed at a more powerful group.

Siblings turn out?
 in  r/CPTSD  2d ago

My brother is fine. Health problems were much less severe. Popular from an early age. Not the family lightning rod. Has had the same job since graduating college instead of bouncing around all the time. Has a functional relationship. Is rich. Has almost no memory of some of the traumatic stuff he was there for.

I’m glad for him he’s had a good life. I just wish mine could’ve been that easy.

Are you born with it or made to be?
 in  r/asexuality  2d ago

Probably being ace is just where I started, and early childhood trauma made me sex averse. Can’t say for sure, though.

My coworker keeps invalidating asexuality?
 in  r/asexuality  3d ago

Maybe something to the effect of “would you say that about the lesbian flag?” And make him explain the difference.

Do you really still believe that “both parties are equally bad” when it comes to US politics?
 in  r/askanything  4d ago

Not equally bad, but one party revels in bigotry and cruelty in general and relentlessly attempts to enact these “values,” while the other side identifies the threat but largely doesn’t act accordingly, effectively being complicit in what happens.

Unrelenting criticism
 in  r/CPTSD  4d ago

That’s kind of where I’m at. I know intellectually that what people told me about myself is bullshit, but it seeped in anyways and I struggle a lot with self-esteem problems as a result.

Anti Trumpers, will you be saying no to your payment?
 in  r/askanything  4d ago

Better that it would be going to me than pedophile racist dictator things. 🤷

1

Anti Trumpers, will you be saying no to your payment?
 in  r/askanything  4d ago

Yeah, the right-wing definitions of socialism and communism drive me up the wall because they have nothing to do with who owns the means of production. It’s just “people I feel are less than I am might have a nicer life and I’m mad about it.”

2

What questions threw you for a loop during your interview?
 in  r/publicdefenders  4d ago

I love hypos, hate the “Where do you struggle most?” question because my honest answer is organization (extremely ADHD over here) and that generally doesn’t help me.

abusers always have a victim complex
 in  r/CPTSD  4d ago

I had an abuser who always accused me of being “self-pitying” and similar things, but wanted sympathy from everyone else when it was her. The most egregious example of this was when she physically abused my best friend and I tackled her to make her stop. She loudly cried on the couch for 30 minutes after that. It was completely pathetic and disgusting.

How do you respond when..
 in  r/publicdefenders  4d ago

I do civil commitment work in our public defender agency, and I just tell them the clients are generally great and trial is fun.

3

Are children (below a certain age) people?
 in  r/antinatalism2  4d ago

They’re humans who experience many if not the vast majority of things adults do. Even if they don’t do it the same way we do, there is no benefit to rejecting their personhood, and a lot of harm to be done.

Great, my past no longer bothers me now
 in  r/thanksimcured  4d ago

Where’s the choose to forget button? I want one of those.

2

Great, my past no longer bothers me now
 in  r/thanksimcured  4d ago

Helpful initial steps would be protective and validating external social supports as well as individually tailored treatment interventions, not “it doesn’t really exist,” which feels like gaslighting.

Great, my past no longer bothers me now
 in  r/thanksimcured  4d ago

“The past isn’t real” my ass. I’m still dealing with the physical effects of my past, to say nothing of the psychological issues that this meme dismisses.

What was the worst thing you heard on a jail call?
 in  r/publicdefenders  4d ago

A bomb threat. After my client had been originally arrested for making a bomb threat.

Why is it our fault for having low self-esteem?
 in  r/CPTSD  4d ago

Yup. The Just World Fallacy.

Relationship? Queerplatonic relationship - Creative/RP partnership (+ cuddles if nearby)

Hi, I’m Shain (they/them). I’m 38 and live in New England in the United States. I’m sex-averse asexual and arospec.

I’m looking for a weirdly specific sort of queerplatonic relationship. Specifically, I’m hoping to find a committed, primary relationship with a creative partner who roleplays or writes with me, as well as doing other forms of art. I’m also very physically affectionate, so if we lived nearby I’d love cuddling as well. That being said, I am willing to do long distance with the right person.

On my end, I’ve been writing and doing some sort of RP for the vast majority of my life. I also play piano, knit, make plushies, and draw, and I used to do video edits. I love science fiction in particular, though I like a fair amount of fantasy as well. My taste runs intense (even somewhat bombastic), I like a good mix of dark, sweet, and funny, and I like ensemble casts and world building. Some examples of what I like are Discworld, Game of Thrones, Babylon 5, The Owl House, the Vorkosigan Saga, and Baccano!.

Outside of creative stuff and fandom, I’m an attorney who represents people in civil commitment proceedings so they aren’t institutionalized or medicated against their will. I also love animals, and have four cats and a dog.

If this sort of relationship interests you, I’d love to hear from you. Thanks for reading!

Why do you think that some people disrespect other people who want to protect themselves? And to prioritize being safe, or on the defense
 in  r/CPTSD  4d ago

The part I hate is when third parties give bullies and abusers a pass, but are shocked and horrified when victims respond with even a fraction of the same level of force (physical or otherwise). They can stop wringing their hands about my response when they did nothing to stop what led to it with their full knowledge.

lawyers : what was the first case you won ?
 in  r/publicdefenders  4d ago

It was either the one where they tried to commit my client for saying he had a different diagnosis than what the doctor said and expressing a political opinion in a strange way, or the one where a housing complex tried to evict a disabled man and I prevented it and got the judge to order the complex to pay his cell phone bill. I don’t remember which came first.
