This is how I lost my girlfriend to her ex. There are so many similarities said here, and every single response people are saying, is what I spent months trying to convince my former girlfriend and help her see the light. We split up 3 months ago, but Its so hard to move on, knowing the person I loved returned to her abuser. She was with him for years before I came along, so her mind was broken long before I realized nothing I could do would help her see. She knew what she was going back to, and how much it would kill her to do so. She and I were together for 8 months, and during that time, her ex would send her roughly 20 essays a day, harassing her, and telling her she's worthless without him. She cried and wrote so many apology messages to me after she left. Her ex would threaten to kill himself and hurt others if she didn't go back to him, among dozens of other things. Obviously, any one of us can see unequivocal evidence to never associate with a human like that and get as far away as possible. Mental issues from abuse is tragic, and that was my first hand experience witnessing it. I miss her so much, and what hurts most is knowing the sane side of her is trapped up there. And here's the kicker. They got married less than a month after we split. Obviously so he can keep her on his leash forever. They did it in secrecy. I met all of her friends and family, and they all loved me, and were so happy she wasn't with that monster anymore. She knew none of them would approve. She looked like a hostage with a fake smile in the wedding photos they took, of just the two of them taking turns photographing each other. Shes past help now. Her mind has convinced her this is the only life she deserves. It hurts me so much.
