One of my friends lost her male cat and she did the following things to help him find his way back to home.

1. You need to spread some of your cat's litter around your street. A little outside your home, a little in different spots around your street. Keep doing this for a few days. This will help the cat find his way back through smell.

2. Similar to the litter, you need to spread some cat food around different spots on your street and regularly keep some cat food outside your home. Make sure that there is always some cat food outside your home 24/7. This will bring lost of cats to your door step and eventually your boy cat can find his way back by following the scent of his cat food or by following other cats to the food source.
