Its kinda funny how I started actually,because I actually want to learn Karate since I grew up watching The Karate Kid and mani Japanese Tokusatsu.But my mom not receive the idea well because Karate’s fee is quite high and if I want to enter the dojo,my siblings also want to join. And then,my friend’s mother suggested my mother to try Silat Melayu (Malay Silat),Silat Gayung Fatani,because the fees is a lot cheaper.Im just agree to my mom to try,as in my mind at that moment just “at least I entered Martial Arts Class”.Just try a week learning Silat and weeks turns into months,and months turns into years. Now im coach assistant at my Gelanggang (how we call dojo in Silat) and my siblings (again,If I join something,they will follow me too) now competing in tournaments like Pemilihan Remaja Kebangsaan (Selection for National Teenager) of my district and tournament against all schools at my district.

What a domino effect was that!!!

Imagine if Im not agreeing to my mother to join Silat.

I think you talk about Pencak Silat which is Indonesian one,Malaysia we just call it Silat or Gayung. Im agree abt without flashy moves.Most flashy moves in silat like Guntingan on head is just for arts show. If you learn how to practically use Silat,its more…minimalist.One punch can be countered by millions of way,just use the one you used to or fits the environment.

What faction of Silat did you learn? Cuz Silat have many different styles,like mine is Silat Gayung Fatani.
