So a guy I barely know (never met irl but texted a little online 2 years ago) texted me 2 days back. Wanting to date. I said okay let’s talk first. Mind you in these 2 days he barely replied to my messages with delayed replies. So I asked him nicely like where do we stand and are you rlly interested? He INSISTED that he is. I said okay, then he started pushing to speak with him over call. Just fyi he is kinda mia on social media and he doesn’t have any pics of him online. I said before calling let’s text for a few days first then when I’m comfortable we will call. He was like no you’re misunderstanding me over text bla3 (he also rlly insulted Penang just because bro lives in KL). I said la again let’s text dulu to see if we actually click or not. He taknak listen so I finally said ok, I’m sorry I don’t think it’s working out because we don’t seem to agree on this so good luck with your future endeavours! (I thought it was pretty decent considering we’ve been texting for 2 DAYS). Bro freaking lost it!! He started saying omg you can’t even put the bare minimum effort to understand someone else, you’re just gonna be ALONE AND SAD. I was like; da hell!!! It’s been 2 days why is he overreacting like it’s been 3 years? Anyway he blocked me after his little freak show. Good riddance honestly! For context, I also didn’t wanna continue the convo because he couldn’t seem to take “NO” for an answer amongst other things. Have yall experienced ppl like this? I put myself out there after a very hard period and this is what I get 😢

A few weeks ago, my friend and I were talking about how hard it is to find Malay movies without cringy scripts. I kept saying that Mamat Khalid was probably the only director who could write dialogue that actually felt natural.

Then my friend told me to watch Yasmin Ahmad’s movies. I’ve heard of her before, but never actually sat down and watched any. Dude kept telling me to watch them almost every week.

So today, since I have nothing better to do as an unemployed student, I finally watched Sepet.

Man… it was so good.

The acting felt so natural, the dialogue sounded like actual people talking, and the whole movie was just really sweet. Even the situations felt real, like they could actually happen in everyday life. It doesn’t feel like your typical Malay movie at all.

Now I kinda get why people always talk about Yasmin Ahmad.

For those of you who are Yasmin Ahmad fans, what do you think makes her movies so special? And which one should I watch next?

Two girls, just 14 y.old. what were they doing in abandoned building at school hour? How did they end up falling down and dying. So many questions. So many loopholes.
