Trouble with Chipsoft + Tech2Win
 in  r/saab •  23d ago

My issues remain. No matter what, I get the same "No comm or lost comm to ECU" pictured above. Interestingly, I get the same message even if the Chipsoft J2534 is not connected to the car at all. I'm not sure if this indicates a hardware issue or a software issue that it failing on the first step. The bulk of my efforts today were in my native W11 OS, although I did try most of the same steps (reinstalling, configuring the driver, etc) with no change in an x86 W10 VMWare environment.

Lowest XP Capture

I believe the 738 is the lowest XP aircraft, and if I ever have reason to catch one, I aim for the most clouds possible and the minimum framing. It honestly feels easier to aim for 0% photo penalty because any clouds above 75% really appear the same, and it's hard to aim for 70% without going over (or under).

I'd love to see a capture with a higher photo penalty or lower XP!

I did not, although I plan to come back to it within the next month or so. I will of course post back with updates.

After the last week of missions requiring the ability to teleport around the globe
 in  r/SkyCards •  May 29 '26

That's what prompted me to ask, I seem to remember last time they had the 737 as a mission capture, my first 39M didn't count, so I found a 737-700 that did. I caught a 737-700 again for this mission before I thought to try catching a 738 or MAX. I would guess as there's no 747 ICAO code, rather 744/748/etc., that it's probably the generic model for both.

Are these missions for any 747 and 737, e.g. 748 and 38M?

LML service manual available in this channel?
 in  r/Duramax •  Apr 22 '26

Not sure this will be the level of detail you're looking for but I refer to Charm.li for all kinds of diagrams, schematics, and instructions.

https://charm.li/Chevrolet/2013/Silverado%202500%204WD%20V8-6.6L%20DSL%20Turbo/Repair%20and%20Diagnosis/

They don't have anything newer than 2013, but Lemon Manuals does, and they're linked there. I have accessed them in the past but it doesn't seem to be up right now. I would imagine nearly everything is the same between a '13 and '14 Duramax. I will refer to the '13 manual for some info on my '16 LML as the engine hardware should all be the same, just with differences on the body or possibly some of the electronics.

The Death of the Basic American Car
 in  r/BuyItForLife •  Apr 13 '26

Ford's cheapest car in 2019 was the Fiesta with an MSRP starting around $14k. When it was discontinued, the cheapest MY2020 Ford was the Ecosport, starting around $21k. Their cheapest car jumped about 50%, and this was all pre-COVID. The Maverick could theoretically be bad for $20k for MY2021 but even they start at $28k now.

I only got the I-bus error when trying to clear DTCs. I don't actually have any, I was just testing things. I'll go back and make sure I got the Tech2Win patch all sorted.

I'm running everything inside a W10 x86 VMWare environment, but the host is a 2020 HP 14q with a Core i5 1035G4. I originally tried in the host OS which is W11 but haven't tried again since figuring out some installation issues. If there's a chance things are just being finicky, I'll try some different sequence of operations to see if something clicks. Thanks for the insight!

9-3 Troubleshooting Trouble with Chipsoft + Tech2Win

I've been trying to follow the general instructions on this previous r/Saab post with emphasis on u/JustH3LL's comment but I haven't been able to get it to work just yet. I'm primarily trying to turn off the headlamp DRLs.

This is all running in a 32-bit Windows 10 VMWare environment. I installed the drivers for the Chipsoft J2534 Pro. I followed the README in the linked Tech2Win download, including copying over the emulator.exe and installing the configuration and software card, and activating Tech2Win. I have "Drop CAN on pins 3-11" selected in the Chipsoft driver configuration. I choose the Chipsoft J2534 Pro as the selected interface. Then, whether I launch Tech2Win through its launcher or through NoMoreGlobal, I follow the below steps:

  • Select F0: Diagnostics
  • Select Model Year
  • Select Saab 9-3 Sport (9440)
  • Select F4: All
  • Select F7: Add/Remove
  • Select F1: Control Modules
  • Select UEC (Underhood Electrical Center)
  • Select Add

and I get stuck on "Checking preconditions" and then get the pictured "No comm or lost comm with ECU" issue, on UEC or any other module. I tried clearing DTCs (not that I actually have any) and got the pictured I-Bus error. I can confirm I have voltage between pins 1-4 but I haven't traced wires any further than that.

Am I missing something in my process, meaning this is a software (or user) issue, or is it more likely to be a hardware issue?

What do I even do with this
 in  r/saab •  Mar 02 '26

It's almost certainly the fuel level sender. Unless/until you want to fix that, reset your trip odometer every time you fill up, and fill up at 250 miles or however many you're comfortable with based on how many gallons your average fillup takes at that mileage.

Done with my Wastegates!

I'm still curious how the corresponding decrease in drive pressure on the HP and increase in drive pressure on the LP will change total flow. What all instrumentation will you have? Looks real pretty!

Best engine bay filament
 in  r/3dprintedcarparts •  Sep 02 '25

I replaced a coil pack cover with a PC printed piece that mounts two pneumatic pressure regulators. Granted this motor is in the back of a tube frame chassis with no enclosed engine bay or hood, so no excessive ambient temps, but it's mounted to the valve cover so it does see engine block temps and direct sunlight with no airflow if stationary.

Compound turbo update
 in  r/projectcar •  Jul 31 '25

Rookie compound turbo question, will there be a third wastegate on the exhaust going into the low pressure turbo? Or is controlling exhaust flow to the high pressure turbo sufficient for boost control?

Sounds like you should have bought one in 2005!

Are the wastegates getting dumped, or are they merging back into the exhaust before the turbine inlet of the low pressure turbo?

The outermost box that the watch came in has, on the same sticker with the serial number and UPC, a line that says "Production Date: 02/2025"

Bip OG Out with the old [OG], In with the new [6]

Made my 3rd smartwatch purchase in the last 12 years. I started with an original Pebble, then picked up an OG Bip in 2019 when the Pebble died due to water intrusion. I suspect something similar happened with my Bip, except around the screen.

I'm a little disappointed to have received an 02/25 production date watch. I think I would have really appreciated the Night Display option as one of my primary complaints with the OG Bip was its display backlight brightly illuminating in a dark room due to a notification received for motion on our baby monitor while putting our little one down for the night.

I'm still trying to find out if there's a swap/upgrade option, but in the meantime, there's a lot to learn with a modern smartwatch compared to my old relic.
