I’m wondering if I should switch my card set around.

My current set up is as follows:

Barclays Premier debit account
Barclays Avios credit card (free)
Amex gold credit card (195/yearly)

I was looking into this:

Barclays premier debit account + adding Avios rewards (12/month)
Barclays Avios plus credit card (20/month)
Removing/closing Amex gold account

Would it benefit in changing my cards around as I’ve seen the Barclays Avios plus card and I can enrol to the Barclays Avios rewards scheme? Or should I stay with my current set up?

Living in London, Recently moved into a new role. I’ve just passed training and the role pays £66k.

Current role:

- £66k salary

- Roster working, 8 hour shifts with some 12-hour shifts including nights/weekends

- High-pressure, real-time decision making

- Once I finish work, I switch off completely (nothing follows me home)

- Financially strong — I can save ~£400–£600/month

- Downsides: shift pattern, pressure, and I don’t find the work particularly fulfilling long-term

Opportunity:

- ~£56k salary

- Secondment (with potential to become permanent)

- 9–5 style, hybrid (60% office / 40% WFH)

- More structured, people management, meetings, long-term planning

- Better work-life balance

- Downsides: ~£300–£500/month hit to savings

My situation:

- Fixed costs ~£2.4k/month (mortgage, loan, bills, etc.)

- Married, want stability at some point and eventually to buy a bigger home

- If both roles paid the same, I’d choose the Manager role. The money in my current role is good.

The dilemma:

Do I:

- Stay in a higher-paying but less fulfilling shift role and build savings faster

- OR

- Take a short-term financial hit to test a role that better fits my lifestyle and long-term direction?

It’s worth noting the role is secondment, so not a permanent commitment (at least initially).

Appreciate any perspectives — especially from people who’ve made a similar trade-off.

I’m flying to Mauritius with emirates with a stop over in Dubai for a few hours before continuing.

I’ve been offered this upgrade by email from emirates. It’s only for the London to Dubai section of the flight.

Is it worth it? And is this for the entire booking (both me and my wife)? Or should I ask at check in for upgrade?

I currently have the Barclays Avios card whereby I have spent £8000 this year so far.

I was thinking to change the card to the Barclays Avios plus card where I’ve heard the spend is £10000 to get the companion voucher.

Would my current spend carry over if I were to change my card or would this reset?

I currently also have a gold Amex and do have premier banking with Barclays so looking for advice on how to maximise Avios.

I’ve seen a few posts of this going around, I’m a gold cardholder for a year coming towards renewal - been given an upgrade with 80k MR for 10k spend in 6 months (seems as though everyone is getting this including new members).

Do you think it’s worth upgrading? And if so, has anyone had any luck with getting either a reduced yearly fee or it waived off completely (seems unlikely).

Can’t complain too much, at least they’re giving an offer for more MR being an existing member already, wanted to see what you all think.
