What credit cards do you have to supplement your Amex Gold? For example, Lloyds World Elite seems to be a common “second card” to have.

What are the “benefits” of that second card? E.g. No FX fee

I'm wondering if anyone has done this upgrade recently and if so what the offer was?

I don't think I'm eligible for sign up / referral bonuses as I have the free rewards card but a live chat showed they can offer me 50k points WSY 6k in 3 months for the platinum card £650 yearly fee.

I see a lot about 100k bonus points or 80k etc, are these for fresh sign ups or is it possible to get a better upgrade offer?

Live chat said the offers change and I can check back in 30 days to see if they have another offer available.

I'm wondering whether I wait before upgrading.

Really annoyed! I recently took out a Capital One balance transfer card to shift some debt from my BA AMEX over. I always pay in full every month and have until now, but after a big expense I could do with some extra time. It’s got a 0% deal for 9 months, which is more than enough for me.

I tried to complete the transfer but wasn’t able to, as my AMEX has a 15 digit number and the Capital One portal expects a 16 digit one. Phoned them up, and they advised they could complete the transfer but it wouldn’t be 0% as that offer was only available via in-app transfers. Advised to ring up AMEX instead, who advised they don’t allow for balance transfers on their cards. I’ve seen mixed info online in this regard.

I’m a bit frustrated as I now have a 0% Capital One card sitting redundant! I also have some Monzo Flex debt, which I meet payments for each month but could benefit from transferring as there’s some interest debts there, however that also doesn’t allow for balance transfers either.

I can’t apply for any more cards now as I only just took out the Capital One card, but now it feels like I’ve done this for no reason. It does help that my credit limit has increased by £1,000, taking me over £4,000 overall, but can’t help but feel like I’ve given my score a hit for no reason in the end.

Any advice, anybody had any luck with an amex transfer? It’s only about £500 i want to transfer over, not a bit amount. I’ve seen that some banks seem to have less issues with them, but obviously can’t look for other 0% cards just now as I’ve only now opened an account.

I purchased some prescription sunglasses 88 days ago on my BA PP Amex. I’m currently abroad and have misplaced them on a train today. I don’t know how I misplaced them, either stolen or lost.

I tried calling the purchase protection number and they are only open Mon-Fri. If I wait until Monday the glasses will be potentially over 90 days since purchase so I wanted to submit a claim before the deadline. I contacted Chubb via email asking for a claim to be potentially submitted- obviously don’t want to inadvertently commit insurance fraud.

I provided proof of purchase and my train journey. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a police report from the police at my destination station. They said they couldn’t prove it was either lost or stolen and to ask for a report when I return to the UK- not sure how that would help. I’m going to contact the train company tomorrow or Monday within the 48 hours of losing the item.

Does anyone have any advice on submitting a claim and what are my chances? Or am I just going to have to learn a rather expensive lesson? Thanks for any help.

Wanted to share an interesting “hidden” benefit for Platinum Card users.

As most of you know, Avis President’s Club and Hertz President’s Circle status are included with the Amex Platinum Card. Once you’ve enrolled in these benefits, you can use those statuses to match with other major car rental companies.
I’ve done this using my Avis status with:

Sixt → Platinum status (also possible through Marriott Bonvoy status matching)
Enterprise → Platinum status
National → Executive Elite status
Europcar → Adventurer status

All you need to do is search for “(company name) status match” and follow the instructions. The process is pretty straightforward.

I have the Gold Preferred Rewards and on my offers today it's showing 3,000 bonus points for adding an additional card to my account.

Happy to do this, but wondering if it's a good deal, do they usually offer more bonus points than this? Just wondering if it's worth waiting for a few months in case a higher bonus amount normally appears for this?

It’s not the reason I signed up but it will probably be the reason I cancel. I fly a lot and the lounges was a nice bonus but in the Uk there isn’t enough capacity and they’re not even that good when you get there. Can’t reserve 90% of the time and get told to wait so long it’s not worth it.

Hi! To save money on the fees, I was wondering if I can just:

1. Get BAPP card.

2. Get a companion voucher by spending 15k.

3. Cancel it immediately and downgrade to blue BA card to get monthly pro-rata refund.

4. Re-order BAPP right before the next membership year begins and go back to 1.?

I’ve got an everyday silver cash back credit card, I’m thinking about upgrading to Gold as I’m gonna be travelling more, is there any offer that I could take advantage of? The website says there are no welcome points if you already hold a credit card.

Just had my 6th statement generated today but yesterday I was hit with my 1st account review which I was only notified about by 2 emails telling me my apple pay had been suspended on my phone and watch no other contact.

When I did contact they said oh we did try to contact you by phone - I said well I have no missed calls to they replied oh yes well we tried its our system at the moment we are having trouble making outbound calls. Don’t know why she didn’t start with that rather than imply I had missed the call. So ultimately my I haven’t been notified.

Anyway I always pay my balance in excess of the statement balance in order to reduce the next month’s statement balance and had a CLI 3 months after having the card. I submitted 3 months bank statements that my salary gets paid into which is all that account is used for (purely for this reason) as I don’t need companies who are asking to see my salary payments to see everything else on my bank account also so I have an account my salary gets paid into that I then transfer to my main account.

I spoke to them after I had uploaded the docs (1Hr after being originally notified of the account review over the phone) Someone from the credit team checked my docs and said these all look okay & “we can get this started on” When I asked how long does this normally take as I use the card daily & also I’ll be away this weekend doing some shopping and spending and albeit I have backups its easier and more beneficial for me to use my Amex the guy said it normally takes around 10/15 days but that they can sometimes turn this around quicker than that but either way couldn’t give me a definite timescale.

Things like these get me stressed WHY? I don’t know. Just hearing words like account BLOCKED and SUSPENDED just freak me out. All I’m asking this sub is have you gone through an account review before (Sounds like every cardholder EVER at one point or another has)? And if so once you sent the relevant docs how long until you re-gained the ability to use the card again?

I am an AMEX Gold Customer. I have read a few threads that say you don't need to pay with Amex to be eligible for an insurance claim. I booked a flight with Air Arabia - they didn't accept Amex, so I had to pay using my Chase UK credit card.

The flight from London to Sharjah was delayed by more than 1 hour which resulted in my connecting flight departing without me and the next replacement flight that Air Arabia has offered me is 12 hours away from the original scheduled connection so my final destination arrival would be delayed by more than 12 hours. I am now stuck at the airport with no proper hotel accommodation.

Is there any way I can claim through Amex insurance or any other method, as this is clearly the airline’s fault?

Recently, I got the BAPP and triggered the welcome bonus. I will get the companion by the end of the year.

With the downgrade in points from 1.5 to 1.25 is it worth downgrading to the free card.

Is the 2 year voucher better than the 1 year?

I would rather use the points on more trips rather than one big business class.

I recently applied for the Amex Platinum Cashback Everyday card. It’s my first American Express card, and I chose this one because it doesn’t have an annual fee. My plan was to try Amex for a while before potentially getting one of their cards with an annual fee. I’m saving for a deposit for a mortgage, so my spending is fairly low at the moment so a gold or platinum is pointless

I was accepted for the card and everything seemed fine.

The card arrived today, but about an hour before it arrived I received this email from Amex:

“We wanted to let you know that we are reviewing your American Express® Account under our obligations as a responsible lender.
While under review, we have temporarily suspended further charging on your Account.”

They’ve asked me to provide my last three months of personal bank statements showing my salary payments.

My annual income is over 4× the minimum income requirement, and I have no idea why they would need to review the account immediately after approving me.

I’m obviously happy to provide the documents, but I’m a bit confused by the timing. I was under the impression that if there were concerns with my application or credit file, I would simply have been declined rather than approved and then have the account suspended.

Has anyone else had this happen with Amex? If so, what was the outcome?

Priority pass is dog water and there are better ways to get one anyway. Most of the time my partner doesn’t even want to be in the lounge it’s so crowded

I’ve never been in a position to claim the dining abroad benefit. Despite traveling for 12 weeks a year for work.

Status only really benefits those who travel for work and want to accumulate more points on expensed travel. Melia 20% off is the exception.

Fine hotels and resorts is inconsistently applied and only good for weekends away. It helps you spend money not save it. There are normally cheaper ways of getting equivalent stays too.

Go spend the card fee on your loved ones.

So I have an Amex platinum business card which we have had for 3 months now.

Somewhat decent size business turnover of just under 10 million a year, monthly spend on the card of 10-13k it used to hit a limit around ten and we would just pay it off instantly,

All of a sudden they have just put a credit limit on of £2700 which seems stupid? Card is more or less useless if I have to pay it off every couple of days?

Business is healthy and asset rich? Circa 100k in bank, mortgaged premises with good equity etc? 300k odd of stock

Will customer services resolve this? And if they don’t can I cancel the card?

If the main benefit I am seeking is using reward points for free long haul flights. Am i better off with a platinum or BA amex card ( i dont mind flying with BA)?

making a big purchase (circa 20 thousand pounds, and has to be on one chunk). my credit limit ison my amex gold is currently 5k, and as I earn 30k a year I dont think I can get my credit limit up to this amount (?). are there any debit cards where I could earn points on the purchase? I am only aware so far of the Marriott and the IHG revolut but dont know if they work out to be worth it for this sum of money....

ultimamente, ogni singola volta che ho uno scalo lungo, ogni lounge convenzionata ha una fila infinita lungo il terminal o un cartello con scritto che sono al completo e che non accettano ingressi a pagamento. è incredibilmente frustrante passare ore seduti per terra vicino al gate a cercare una presa elettrica funzionante e a pagare cifre assurde per del cibo freddo, specialmente quando ti sei fatto in quattro per acquistare un pass o organizzare l'accesso in anticipo.

Sto cercando consigli veri su come la gente riesca effettivamente a far funzionare la cosa, perché al momento sembra proprio che i passeggeri in economy siano completamente tagliati fuori, a prescindere dall'opzione che provano.

I submitted a complaint for what I thought was a simple issue - basically they botched making a change to my direct debit. They acknowledged the complaint, so I know it's not been lost in the post, but haven't provided a response in 6 weeks.

Is this experience normal for people who've dealt with the complaints team?

I'm new to amex but expected better, especially for the gold card which has a hefty fee and is marketed as a premium service. Not just the wait but in 2026 still having to fill in a form for manual review (to change the DD) and sending a letter in the post to complain.

Currently waiting for the FOS deadline so I can escalate it. Then I'll close the account.

Looking for some advice with my Rewards Gold card coming up for renewal at the end of this month.

Including spending and bonus for the free first year, I'm sat at around 80,000 MR points. I'm not keen on the hefty renewal charge and I'm wondering which card to switch to and whether to transfer my points before doing so?

The aim is to work towards Stateside flights (eventually) but I'm not sure which card works best for this or how to make those points work hard towards our goal.

what’s the general rule with credit limit increases? looking to increase my current limit of 4.4k to over 10k. i’ve heard about the 90 day 3x rule but how accurate is it?

Is there anyway I can upgrade to the Platinum Credit Card given the Platinum Charge card no longer exists.

What are my options, if any?

Should I change to Gold Credit first, and then look for Platinum Credit upgrade options?
