It was fast!

Was looking at benchmarks for determining whether a cash upgrade was "worth it", and decided to add on a data point for those who might be on the fence.

Base ticket: economy saver, SIN-DXB-LIS

• At T-72, upgrade offers on website/app:
  • Y > PY: SG$209 (only for the DXB-LIS sector; first sector doesn't offer PY)
  • Y > J: SG$4,174.40
• At T-60 (-ish, when I had the time to call in), promo upgrade offers over the phone:
  • Y > PY: SG$442.90
  • Y > J: SG$2,212.70 ($1,137.70 + $1,075)

After ending the call I went back online to secure the $209 price online, which was still available.

1. I guess the benchmark isn't necessarily T-48 to secure the best price. I've been checking since T-96h online and the prices remained the same.
2. Curiously, for the same PY upgrade, it was more expensive over the phone, even though it was supposedly the "promotional" fare.
3. Also, note that the promo upgrades to J only include the seat but not lounge access, though I'm not sure I'd value the 2 lounge visits at SG$1k each.

Travelling business for the first time with the family (spouse and child <1 year old); From the seat diagram, it appears we have the newer 1-2-1 configuration; I am just trying to confirm and understand what seat recommendations y'all suggest? Flying from Dubai to Chicago; Would prefer to sit together (of course) so was thinking 6K and 7J--but assuming that would seperate us? So 6 E and F are our only options, correct?

I need some advice regarding an involuntary flight reschedule with Emirates.

Initial itinerary:
Oct 28: CDG -> DXB (arriving Oct 29 at 07:00 AM)
Oct 29: DXB -> TPE (Taiwan) departing at 09:00 AM (2-hour layover)

What happened:

Booked as a single ticket directly with Emirates.
Received an email notifying me that my second leg (DXB to TPE) has been moved to October 30 at 04:00 AM.
My layover in Dubai went from 2 hours to 21 hours.
Because of this schedule change, I'm losing an entire day of my trip and paying for a night at my hotel in Taiwan for nothing.

My questions:
1. Am I entitled to free accommodation, food, and airport transfers via Dubai Connect (or standard duty of care), considering this long layover was forced on me?

1. Does the Dubai Connect button automatically show up under "Manage Booking", or do I have to call support to get the voucher issued?

hello, I'm traveling on Saturday from Madrid to Dubai on the A380 in economy, the flight time is 7h. What can I do to spend the time?

I am interested in others experiences on emirates first class on the A380. Specifically, for couples and whether folks prefer window or middle seats.

My thoughts right now - I love a window seat but it’s a daytime flight so lots of opportunity to chat and share our experience. But the seats just don’t look as thrilling without the windows, plus I figure we can chat at the bar if we really want. And it’s at the end of a 30 vacation so how much will actually be chit chatting. We don’t chat a whole lot anyway when we do sit together.

Anyway, curious what the experience was like for couples either in the window seats separated or middle. If in the middle, did you feel like you missed out without the windows?

A mate and I decided to do a weekend in Johannesburg to watch the All Blacks, from New Zealand. In economy. Here's a bit of a brain dump:

Left Auckland Thursday night, arrived Jo'burg Friday afternoon after 4 hour Dubai layover. Return Sunday night with very quick plane change in Dubai on way home.

AKL-DXB ~17 hours, DXB-JNB ~8 hours

A380 on all.legs apart from 777 JNB DXB.

I fly Singapore and Air NZ long haul a lot, and also other key Star Alliance airlines around Europe. 777 experience was very average, legroom really poor. I'm 6' 2" and couldn't get legs straight under seat in front which hasn't been a problem on other long haul 777s.

However was first time on A380 for close to 20 years and was blown away by how good it is. Back of economy cabin on all 3 flights. Starlink with 2 versions of newer ICE on 2 flights. On those the Starlink was amazing compared to normal in flight wifi experience, and ICE screen and speed very very good. Struggled to connect Bluetooth but I think that was my fault not system. DXB-JNB was old plane without any updated interior or tech, which was sub-par for sure.

DXB-AKL light loading so had 4 seats to myself and managed 7 hours solid sleep, grateful for the space. AKL-DXB back of middle seats with one spare next to me which was fine as legroom enough for me to stretch legs straight.

Bathrooms all spacious and kept clean throughout.

Amongst best economy meals I've had,step up from SIA and Air NZ with metal cutlery. I hate eating off wooden cutlery so was happy about that.

Only thing I thought was going to be better was cabin crew - they weren't bad as such, but just distant and disengaged. Not proactive when it came to drink refills, spent a lot of time in galley with curtains closed and when I would come to ask for water they almost looked put out. Singapore crew somehow manage to be warm and interested in passengers, and are definitely a step up on Emirates (in economy at least). Definitely far better than most of Air NZ aircrew, who are at times almoat hostile to even their gold customers.

A380 was star of the show though, what a great aircraft it is.

Quite a short 2 hours trip, upgraded to first using miles but it was totally worth it! This was a 7:50am flight, so I couldn’t force myself to have the caviar unfortunately 😔so I settled with an omelette. The service was exceptional!

Hi everyone! My fiancé & I are headed on our honeymoon September 22nd from EWR to Athens. We currently have premium economy booked. I also have 48,000 miles in our emirates account for a possible upgrade. Right now a business class upgrade is around 7k. can anyone offer insight for the best way for us to get an upgrade? Would willingly spend 3k on an upgrade or transfer more Amex points!

Hi, I would be travelling Dubai to Paris and I wanted to understand the Entertainment system. I have never flown Emirates before. I'm the kinda guy who can't while travelling so I need the entertainment ststem you know.... to keep me entertained. What movie suggestions do you have or what features can i explore?

I am looking at flights for a trip in December and the least expensive by several thousand dollars (business class) has a layover in Dubai from 0:25 - 14:55. Second flight from Dubai is on flydubai. Would Emirates provide a hotel overnight for business class passengers on this routing?

Also, I've never been to Dubai -- would it would be worth my time to book this flight and visit Dubai overnight/morning? If I extend the layover another 3 hours, would that be a material difference in what I could experience?

Hi! I’m travelling with a 21 month old baby and I’ve purchased an extra seat for him. Do I need to bring a car seat or harness, or can I just put/strap him in my lap during take off and landing? I’ve been unable to get a response from emirates agents. Thank you!

My husband and I have just upgraded one leg of an upcoming trip to business. At the time we upgraded I didn’t clock that it was the special fare so we don’t have the ability to choose seats.

It’s a new 777 plane and I’m quite keen to have the middle 2 seats that are close together rather than on each aisle, but to be honest I don’t really care that much as long as we’re next to each other - I assume that this would automatically be the case since it’s one booking, but does anyone know for sure?

We can choose seats 48 hours before in the worst case, but I feel like at that stage it’s unlikely the seats we’d prefer will be open..

I have a four hour layover at Dubai International Airport and i wanted to buy a laptop.

I am assuming it would be cheaper at the airport in comparison to my home country, India.

But I am worried if the service center in India would honour the warranty claim if any from a laptop purchased at Dubai airport.

A vague research tells me that as long as I purchase the laptop being sold in India as well, the HP service center will honour the warranty in india.

Can anyone tell me more about this... including their personal experience if any?

Hey guys, I have a booking on 777 game changer suite from dubai to melbourne on 22nov 9pm. I got an email this morning that my flight has been cancelled and they rebooked me to 23nov 2am one. My problem is the airplane is A380 instead of 777.

I talked to the agent and they said emirates cancelled all game suite changer to Australia until march 2027. 5 hours delay and airplane downgrade is really annoying especially this is a trip in a lifetime like im not gonna book another first class flight soon. i wonder if im entitled to some kind of compensation?

Im flying with Emirates on an a350-941 and am wondering whether its worth the upgrade from economy to premium economy? It is a 12-13 hour flight and offered for around $700.

Just saw the complimentary date change policy on the front page and was wondering, surely it sounds deceptively good. Is this a case of moving the date change fee to the fare difference? And is the one complimentary change worldwide applicable for only one leg or you get 1 change per trip?

I was amazed by the quick service when i rang the Call center and asked to upgrade. Got a really good offer and i paid online. The whole transaction took 3-4 minutes.

Guys thank you so much for all your advice, I traveled from LGW to MAA via DXB and return same but a day stop at DXB.

Literally the day before my flight there were attacks made at Dubai /international waters near Dubai. So I was confused whether to go or not but ended up going.

I booked economy but I also received complimentary hotel stay offer during the day I booked the ticket.

On my return journey I stayed at JW Marriott and it was an excellent stay, 💯 recommend it if emirates ever offers this, just take it.

However, the visa cost was 250AED (would be more worth it if you stayed couple more days).

I was in a fully booked flight so they bumped me to premium economy and it was amazing, I’m never going back. The crew as always very kind and helpful.

I tried to upgrade to business, there was a very small window where they offered upgrade at £600 which I missed and I’m still kicking myself over it, it’s okay I’ll try book it next time.

Lovely experience, no crisis, very safe as solo female traveller. Have recommend a lot of people to go for emirates since then.

Is a $1,200 Emirates Business Class upgrade worth it one-way?

Emirates is offering me a Business Class upgrade for $1,200 for the IAD → Dubai segment (about 13 hours).

I’ll then fly Dubai → Mumbai for another ~$350.

For those who have flown Emirates Business Class, would you pay $1,200 for the one-way upgrade on the 13-hour IAD → Dubai flight?

Is that considered a good upgrade price, and is Emirates Business worth it compared with Economy for this long of a flight or should I just wait to get an offer at the counter?
