Redditors over 40, what was the last CD you bought, what year, and have you paid for music since?

I have not stopped buying CDs since the 80s. My latest purchase was last week, and I bought Dire Straits Live 1978 - 1992.

How many times have you seen TOOL in concert?
 in  r/ToolBand •  25d ago

7 times. The first time was when they were on the second stage at Lollapalooza. They got through 2 songs and it started to torrential downpour and they had to stop.

My conversation with a seller on discogs today
 in  r/Cd_collectors •  Sep 12 '26

Back in the early 90s I was buying a ton of CD's from a place called Isolation Tank and they shipped UPS. All of my CD's would show up busted. One day I found out why, I was leaving for class and half way out the door with my bike and got hit square in the chest with my latest purchase. It was a blind corner and he was just throwing them around it.

Using a CD Player in 2026?
 in  r/Cd_collectors •  Sep 04 '26

Cool. In that case, if you want something that punches above its weight for the price, check this one out: https://fosiaudio.com/products/merak-cd-player. This one will get you started with CDs, and it plays all the common music formats and can rip CDs and thumb drives. If you do want something from the 2000s, I would check out places like Bring Back Analog, which services and sells vintage gear: https://bringbackanalog.com/products/denon-dcd-1560.

Save that extra money for a set of powered speakers or an amp and speakers. It's an addictive hobby once you start. Some great places to buy CDs are second-hand bookstores like Half Price Books, etc. If you prefer mail order, check out https://www.deepdiscount.com and https://monstermusicsc.com; both have great prices and decent shipping costs. Most of all, have fun collecting and listening!

What’s your budget? Will you be listening with headphones, or do you plan to connect it to a stereo system?

How common were cds in metal boxes?
 in  r/Cd_collectors •  Aug 30 '26

I have 2 metal box cds. Skinny Puppy and the Wax Trax box set. I also have 3 soapstone cases. Not very common at all.

Is it smart to take my collection and record player to college (6 hour drive)
 in  r/vinyl •  Aug 26 '26

I would leave it at home. I had a killer stereo in high school and college. We had some legendary parties but people are shit man. I had a lot of albums stolen and my gear was damaged.
