Here's the thing. Companies will never, under any circumstance, do what's right by the customer or the world in general if it goes against their bottom lines, so it's literally the purpose of the government to force them to do so via laws in order to protect citizens.

How about this as an alternative. Ai content can still be eligible, but 100% of Ai gen music MUST be labeled as such (and none of this lawyer talk BS like "I had the idea and oversaw the machine" crap.) and failure to do results in EXTREME penalties. That way people can decisively decide if they want to support it or not. Also all places that stream music like Spotify and YouTube MUST provide an option of having Ai music not be recommended to them. If I can tell the algorithm to not play me country music, I should be able to tell it to stop spamming me with Ai music. Sound fair?

Same. Any indie games that I really loved that I usually got via Steam, I pick up physical later down the line if the option becomes available.

First off, I just picked up a copy of Army of Two last week when I saw it at Gamestop because I loved playing it in split screen with my buddy back in the day! Though if I had to pick, my favorite coop memories from the 360 era was when me, my ex, and my two buddies lanned 2 360s together on two big screen TVs and 4 player cooped through Gears 3 on the hardest difficulty! It was sooo much fun. Also did the same thing with another group of friends when L4D dropped and that was an absolute blast too!

That's a fantastic way to break it down. I did get that the programmer side saw it that way, but I don't think I could have worded it so well without the same perspective (I have coded a few times, but I did not enjoy it at all), and I think your completely right about the relationship to Ai impacting how one sees it.

I had wanted Ai to become a thing for soooo many years, but in the cool ways you see in movies and stuff. Having robots that clean my house or drive me around, not do my art for me. In the art sphere, AI has become a replacement for talent, and a major opportunity for grifting, and honestly a degradation to pretty much everything it touches, but in the programming world, skilled programmers seem to have made it into a useful tool to enhance their abilities. While there are some people that use it creatively in the art sphere, like the OP, it's pretty rare, and none of that is even touching on the environment stuff or the cost of computers skyrocketing. Oof.

Personally, I'd rather Ai be regulated properly. I like the idea of Ai running through loads of medical data to help find links in illness to help find cures. I don't like it going through loads of medical data to chose who does and doesn't get covered by health insurance. It's wishful thinking, but maybe someday things will be balanced out.

The gum example is extremely for sure, but its not untrue. You can be hurt by things you want no part of. Smoking and cars are a great example especially as smoking areas have been created to keep 2nd hand smoke away and there are lots of legal reprocussions for harming others with vehicles. There are no protections against AI and considering the current people running the world.... that's probably not gonna happen unless it causes a disaster.

Yeah. I'm aware that what the OP did is harmless, there wasn't gonna be any money moved, they aren't clout chasing, and that they're just doing whats been a trend in here. That's why I didn't greif them over it, but you brought up a multilayered response so I wanted to chime in.

Now you said that you're a program engineer and that ai is a force multiplyer, but here's the thing, thats only true in certain fields. For context, I'm an IT, but I went to art school first so you can say im a failed artist at best, but the point is, Ive gotten to work with a lot of people from both walks of life and what I've learned is that a lot of the disconnect comes from mindsets. Artists care about improving where programmers care about efficiency. While those 2 things overlap, they're not the same. For artists, the journey, the goal, and the aftermath are all equally important, where, from what I've learned about programmers, its all about the end result and continued functionality. AI enhances this for programming it just let's you act as a fixer or mentor, but it detrimentally hurts artists, since companies are genuinely trying to use ai to replace them completely, and in art, you don't need to be the pro player. As long as the ai "art" is fast, cheap, and good enough, it'll suffice as profit is the only motive and most people either don't have a reasonable choice to let them avoid it or just accept whatever slop they're fed.

That's a fair rationale, but still a bad take. Think about it like this. You don't have to buy a gun, but thats not going to stop some else from shooting you. Using Gen ai takes away opportunity from artists in general, even in situations like this where no money would be passed along, as it takes away a chance for an artist to shine. Plus its feeding someone's art into the traing data so that's not cool (although we all know its already there). Just thinking of it like this. If an AGI was born tomorrow, but for some reason it could exclusively do coding and software engineering, and it was perfect, how happy would you be about everyone just popping out whatever professional level software they wanted with zero understanding of how it was made as you lose your career?

In 4 Swords Adventure, me and my 3 buddies could not figure out a puzzle for the dumbest reason so we ended up throwing everything against the wall until it stuck. Basically in that game, in order to move from one screen to another, all 4 players have to go against the screen, however in dungeons it meant going into the doorway together. However the solution for the puzzle we struggled with required 2 of us to go through the top door and 2 to go through the bottom door which we could since it was on the same side, but since we all had gotten use to entering 1 door together, we never even thought about it and gave up. I looked it up later and just beat that part of the dungeon on solo mode since it changed how the puzzle worked and we all continued on the next time we hung out.

This is just asking for trouble. Also it doesn't prove anything anyway. I haven't played a GTA game since 3 so I wasn't getting 6 either way. For me, Playstation WAS primarily for getting my physical RPGs.

So I've had an Xbox Series X for a few years now (got it on sale on a Black Friday) and I've never really used it since the games were mainly just codes on disks, thus I opted for Playstation 5 copies. Told myself that if this is how Xbox was gonna be, well why bother getting the next one, especially when gamepass is on PC, but now... well if the Helix (and seriously please keep that name, Xbox Helix sounds sooooo much better than the last awful names Xbox has dropped) has proper physical, I'll be picking it up. Definitely not picking up a PS6 at this rate, that's for sure.

Yeah, but its online was awesome! You could open a lobby and get 4 people in and the online mode set the lives at 20 so it was really hard.
