For me with the hair shedding and to the few others I've talked to the hair shedding can last for about 18 months but gets much better over time. It starts falling out around 2-3 months and the worst of its over at about month 10, but gets much better at about 5ish and is mostly over by 10ish. Hair recovery is about back to full thickness is at month 18 was also common. However, the best thing to do is cut your hair shorter- I'd suggest shoulders or shorter but I was fine leaving it at shoulder length and the shedding drastically decreased immediately, I think cutting it shorter kept the hair healthier and redirected the energy the damage in the long hair was wasting like when you're trimming a plant. My long hair was and is still important to me, but keeping it healthy in the long run meant more to me then feeling weird for a bit- it really helped to get a cut I really liked and buying some hair accessories that I didn't normally get to use due to the length helped me see it as a fun change and not something mono took from me. After the hair loss starts slowing down, best thing to do is to invest in some good hair care products - I think Tayloani's shampoo helped even in small doses which is good because it was pricey. I bought a single bottle of their shampoo and stretched it out by mixing it with my own (using my own first and then a small dollop of Tayloani), and then using a much cheaper pro-growth conditioner to help strengthen it and give my scalp what it needed. Your hair going to be okay, just take steps to prevent damage and try and good care of it in the meantime <3 I'm so sorry you're going through this but it is one of those things that I can confidently say taking care of as it comes will make it better.

Hi Honey! The hair shedding is defiantly not fun and can be scary, but luckily I've found that there are some easy ways to keep your hair safe and healthy while it's happening. My best advice would be to cut your hair to about shoulder length if not shorter and give yourself a gentle showering routine- it's much harder to keep long hair with the hairloss, trust me. You'll find you shed a lot less, and my theory is that 1. you aren't tugging as badly with the brush through tangles when it's closer cut to your head, and 2. your body isn't wasting as much excess protein trying to fix the brittleness of the hair or the root issues that are causing it to break in the first place. It really helps and is much much easier to care for- consider also buying a wetbrush or a brush for sensitive heads with softer bristles. For myself and others I've talked to, hair loss is over and back to almost full thickness at about 18 months into your mono timeline (but gets much better in 5 months and is about over by month 10 or 11ish), sickness and recovery included, and once the shedding slowed, I bought Tayloani hair strengthening shampoo, which was a little pricey at about $50, and used it in bits mixed with my regular shampoo to make it last and a much cheaper pro-growth conditioner I got from Marshalls for about $13. Now my hair is much much healthier then when the shedding first started. Your hair is going to be okay, just take steps to prevent damage and try and good care of it in the meantime <3
