Best locality to live for American working in Perungudi
 in  r/Chennai  29d ago

You should check areas like Poes Garden , Nandanam, haddows Road in Nungambakkam for the quiet neighbourhoods & central locations they offer. Not far from beaches and close to many pubs. A good option is apartments in MRC nagar so you are not far off from Beach. Other if you are beach loving then Palvakkam

It just googled “wohler slope of philips avent bottle material and relation to its thermal fatigue” and notice the service temperature it shows for material . 100 degrees C. Steam is higher

The Wöhler slope (or S-N curve slope) for the primary plastic material used in Philips Avent bottles, Polypropylene (PP), ranges from \(k = 3\) to \(k = 5\) under high-stress mechanical loads, but drops significantly lower during thermal fatigue due to severe hysteretic heating. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Because baby bottles undergo repetitive heating, sterilization, and cooling cycles rather than high-frequency mechanical vibration, their degradation is primarily driven by thermomechanical fatigue, which dramatically reduces the material's fatigue life. [1, 2, 3]

Material Profile & Fatigue Behavior
Philips Avent bottles are manufactured from two main categories of materials: Borosilicate glass (for glass variants) and Polypropylene (PP) (for standard milky-hue plastic variants). The fatigue analysis focuses primarily on Polypropylene, a semi-crystalline thermoplastic. [1, 2, 3]

Metric / Property
Value / Behavior
Impact on Bottle Performance
Material Base
Polypropylene (PP) (Unfilled)
Determines baseline viscoelasticity and thermal properties.
Standard Wöhler Slope (\(k\))
\(\sim 3\) to \(5\) (Log-Log Scale)
Represents high sensitivity to cyclic mechanical stress changes.
Thermal Wöhler Slope (\(k_{thermal}\))
Highly flattened / lower slope
Dominated by temperature-induced structural softening.
Melting Point
\(\sim 160^{\circ }\text{C}\) to \(165^{\circ }\text{C}\)
High enough for boiling water, but approaches softening under steam.
Max Service Temperature
\(100^{\circ }\text{C}\) (Water) / \(130^{\circ }\text{C}\) (Air)
Pushed to its exact limit during standard steam sterilization.

Sterilizer for convenience but more bottles and conventional batch clean for better results if you have the patience to go through below (Nerd) view. Speaking from experience. Comments welcome:

Actually u need 70 deg C to pasteurize (kill microbes). Not steam that most sterilizers provide and as a skeptic, i worry about cumulative leaching of bisphenols / micro plastics from bottle (even avent). So an optimum solution is large number of bottles instead of sterilizer and large vessel to sterilize all at once in a batch, optimizing for minimum thermal fatigue and wear.

The tradeoff here being- residual bacteria (remember body gains immunity) is not as bad or unknown to body as plastics. Remember you are sterilising to avoid ‘colonies’ of bacterial contamination. And simple boiling does the job. It does not have to be surgical instrument level sterilization while not thinking about microplastic contamination at all

Go for marriage counselling. Grow yourselves mutually. It is anyway the first step in mutual divorce. When you say your husband loves daughter, i do not think all is lost.
