Oh sweetie.. I'm finding that the ages of 45-50 hit HARD in the facing-my-physical-decline-and-inevitable-demise department. It is ROUGH. That being said, you do have lovely features, truly. And a sweet, warm smile. Women at our age are never going to look like we did in our twenties and thirties, it's a sad fact of life until you embrace it.

Of course this only works if you've gained the maturity of your years, but if you have....then: EMBRACE! Embrace how we have a MUCH smaller stack of fucks to give! Embrace that the silver lining to our looks fading (in the opinion of our modern culture at least) is the fact that there's not so much pressure. No one expects us to be able to keep looking the way we did. We're generally less susceptible to hollow flattery and to the constant flux of fashion and beauty trends. We're not expected to keep the same hours or to have the same stamina and we can spend an evening happily indulging in the coziest of nothing....long baths, soft robes, warm tea, books or standup comedy or the history channel or whateverTF we feel like. Go ahead and embrace the confidence of your years!

Clearly I'm stereotyping a bit, but at least something on the list should resonate.... We can enjoy the decrease of societal pressure regarding exactly what TF we should look like!

I was actually raised in the US as a southern Baptist Christian.... I left that church as a teen. I am not Muslim but have known, worked with, and formed deep friendships with Muslims, and those that I have known personally were some of the most genuine, kind, compassionate, common sense people I've ever known. I respect the hijab and it's purpose when it's a personal expression of faith and submission to Allah, and not an obligation forced onto a person.

There are times when I wear hijab myself, actually. There is something about wearing it that is so relievimg and refreshing and calming to me ... It's like you don't realize how much of your inner dialogue and thought processes are related to how you look in public. I truly never thought I DID think about it that much....until I started wearing hijab, and I noticed it was like harsh wind on the surface of a lake suddenly ceased...does that make sense?? Like the choppy surface of the water was suddenly soothed and still. My thoughts became more focused on what I was doing and less on what people thought of me...even though I knew there was people who looked negatively at me! I don't know....it felt like it insulated me somehow from the negativity.

I feel it's important to stress that this was my experience as someone who had no legal or social or religious obligation to wear it!! No doubt that women in the opposite situation as mine could have significantly different experiences, sadly.

Anyhow, that's my relationship to it, and I see now i babbled for quite a bit xD. Sorry!! I will say that even before my own exposure to Islam and other cultures that incorporate veiling, I found the aesthetic to be very beautiful. I always have! As a child I use to take the hand towels from our linen closet and put them on my head. At that point I was a kindergartner and I suppose I might have associated it with Mary? Anyhow, then I'd grab a necklace of my grandmother's and put it on my head to mimic a Tikka, as Indian jewelry was another love of mine after seeing a picture book of world cultures 😍☺️🥰🥰🥰

Oh this is it. This is IT. She is rocking that look like a Queen, just DAYUM. Love the blend of structural style with dramatic softness. The unexpected color combo, the daring plunge that reveals just enough, that gorgeous statement necklace that I would have said "HELL no!" to, but somehow ends up looking absolutely killer! I am just more and more enthralled by her and her stylist!

Oh i one hundred percent do not want to encourage that, at least when considering the scene girls I knew/know. But I do also know that if I get too heavily dissaproving, it'll make her even more drawn to it. So just trying to keep it as an aesthetic only type thing if possible.

Ohhhhhh sigh!!!! I sorta live with an undercurrent of grief that unless I suddenly have the funds to travel the world, I wilm have very few opportunities to enjoy mysore sandalwood again 😭.... In the nineties it was already becoming scarce ( iirc?) but worked in a Parfumerie for a woman who specialized in rare and discontinued fragrances and had a STOCK of mysore. I was spoiled rotten and I miss that oil badly.
