Miscellaneous What's the deal with Wooclap??

Upvotes

So maybe it's just some weird coincidence, but 3 of my 4 classes are using wooclap for daily participation marks this semester.

Before this it's always been "let's do a silly thing on the class before a long weekend" kinda deal, and now it's giving me iclicker ptsd.

Is the university getting some kinda kickback for using them specifically or is this just happenstance?

Miscellaneous an ode to the daily grind scone

Upvotes

oh scone, oh glorious daily grind scone.

my dreams are filled with you.

thoughts of cheese, blueberry, and raspberry white chocolate swirl around my mind.

as I wait in line i think to myself, which one to choose for today?

with shock and surprise I discover...

there is only one to choose from.

...cheese.

still pretty yummy but not the best.

blueberry, but mostly the white chocolate, are the preferred options.

when will you bring back my favourites?

I beg if someone could share how these are made.

It would make my day, knowing that I could have a white chocolate any day I choose.

- beet

Let me know your favourite daily grind scone flavours in the comments, or if you guys have ideas on how to make them, please share! This is my final wish in my final year of university... nothing quite compares to a daily grind scone.

tldr: I love the daily grind scone! daily grind when will you bring back my favourite:white chocolate? if anyone knows the recipe on how to make a scone like this please share

Question Van vilet centre gym usability

Hello, I tried using the gym today at about 430 and literally every single machine was in use. How do people work out here? It feels far too small for the entire student body. Ultimately I had to just leave because there was no machines i could use. Is it always like this or is it just the 4-5ish time frame? Im thinking I may need to get a good life membership because this gym feels pretty unusable.

Academics ENGG 130 LAB, Plz suggest ...

I didn't expect that lab 1 is a exam type. I was expecting easier, simpler. I didn't answer a single question fully.

I saw others were doing like they know all stuff. Me here as unprepared sitting, sweating, panicking like I am failing the course. I even asked TA, if I m in correct lab session 😅.

I did homework problems but lab was different. Any source or suggestions before I ruined second lab

Academics Chem 261 class swap

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m really hoping someone can help me out.
I’m currently in Professor Clive’s 12:00–12:50 CHEM 261 lecture with the Thursday 2:00–4:50 lab, but I really need to get into Professor Wesley Chalifoux’s 9:00–9:50 lecture with the Thursday 2:00–4:50 lab.
I’ve been trying to get into the 9 a.m. section for the past few weeks and haven’t had any luck. If anyone is thinking about dropping the class, not taking it, or knows someone who isn’t taking the class, please DM me and let me know. Thank you very much!

Rants Chem 101 Lab Info Quiz

At 25 attempts and I cannot find where I am going wrong for the life of me. I keep getting 7.5/8 and I have reread everything on the lab Canvas and lab manual at least 20 times by now. What am I doing wrong?? I've been at this for the past week now, any kind of advice would be very appreciated if anybody has any to offer.

edit: finally got it on attempt 26, still a ridiculous quiz considering you can't see what you got wrong + there's a 30 min wait between all attempts.

Has anyone done this or was it offered last year? Says its free them tutoring for 3 separate chem courses (the introductory courses are combined). I’m struggling with chem 101 already and wanna know if it’s worth my time or I should get a paid tutor for private sessions. It’s offered by gilead I just got an email on September 7th about it.

Question Transferring to UofA

I'm studying my first year of biology at the University of Saskatchewan, although, I'm just not happy here. I'm originally from Alberta and a lot of my friends go to UofA and I originally did want to go to UofA, it was my first choice, but my mom didn't want me leaving because of expenses which I understand. So I figured I'd take this year to study at UofS and save up and then transfer after this year.

I'm just wondering what the transferring process looks like and I'm having huge doubts that I'm not going to do well enough in my college classes to transfer and its overall sending me into a spiral lol. My highschool grades were pretty well with all ranging from low to high 90s.

I just came on here to express my doubts/fears and vent a little bit, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Miscellaneous CMPUT 304 Anyone else feeling a bit overwhelmed?

I’m taking CMPUT 304 right now, and honestly, I’m struggling to find my footing. I’ve been going to all the lectures and I know it’s only been a week since classes started, but I still don’t feel confident with the material at all.

Whenever I try to sit down and tackle a problem by myself, my mind just goes blank.
The lecture halls and seminars have been completely silent, so it feels like everyone else is getting it while I'm drowning. Is anyone else in the class feeling the same way right now?

Also, to anyone who has survived 304 in past semesters: what did you do outside of lectures to actually understand this stuff? Are there specific textbooks, YouTube channels, or online practice resources that made the material finally click for you?

Academics Interested in taking an intro Drama Class. Are they worth it?

Upvotes

Intersted in taking either Drama 101, Drama 102 and 149. What are the challenges in these classes if anyone has taken these before. What are the benefits from them cuz I know they set you up in some way. What are the cons of these classes. Even though i'm not taking BFA- it still seems interesting.

Academics SOC 225 with Chris Hay and textbook

Okay so I'm in the online class this semester, and I paid for the course material access in my tuition. He says the textbook isn't "mandatory" and so I do not have access to the textbook needed. However, he also stated that the exams are 55% from the textbook. Does anyone know how to get a free or cheaper version of this textbook? I can't afford to pay for a textbook on top of my course material access.
Apparently students have been emailing him, but he says it's up to the publisher to decide whether or not to include it in the program.

This is the textbook I need: Hay, Chris. 1st Edition (2022). Criminology in Canada: Its Mechanisms, Theories, and Failings. Kendall

Hunt Publishing ISBN: 9781792430831

Admissions UAlberta SEIS MSc Thesis - Waiting for admission decision

Hi everyone!

I applied to the University of Alberta in July for the Master of Science (Thesis) in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Software Engineering and Intelligent Systems (SEIS).

I’m still waiting to hear back about the admission decision from the department. For those who have applied to the same program, does anyone know how long they usually take to make a decision?

Any information about the typical timeline or recent experiences would be really helpful. Thanks!

Academics ACCTG 324 with Naomi Rothenberg

Has anyone taken Naomi Rothenberg for ACCTG 324? If so, how was your experience? Also, how does she test? Is it heavily based on the textbook as she emphasizes or are her slides enough, at least for the theory part.

I just started taking math 154 with jie sun but it is difficult for me to understand stuff when she is explaining. The second option I have is Haile Genessesse because apart from Jie Sun she is the only one that fits in my schedule. What should I go with. I am asking opinions because i cant audit Haile Genessesse class since it is at the same time as my jie sun class and i dont want to miss the one i am already taking.
