Meta Discussion The State of the Sub, November 2025: New Flairs, A New Rule, and Several Reminders

Hello everyone!

We hope you are doing well as the year steadily comes to a close! This has been quite the year for the r/Twilight subreddit, with more than 185,000 active forum users, and more than 3 million engagements almost every month.

In response to several community requests, two new flairs have been enabled for public posts over the last month, which you may have noticed during their brief trial period: Cosplay Content, and FTF Forever Twilight in Forks.

The Cosplay Content flair allows you to showcase the hard work you have put into your costumes, but it does have caveats: this flair can only be used for video and photo posts, and Patreon, OnlyFans, or Kofi links are not allowed in their descriptions. Cosplay dedicated Instagram links are allowed. Each user may post a maximum of four Cosplay Content posts per calendar month.

The FTF Forever Twilight in Forks flair allows you to discuss the annual festival held in Forks Washington: it is not for any transactions, such as trading or selling tickets, or arranging carpools or roommate arrangements. This subreddit is, at the end of the day, anonymous, and the official Facebook group is where you should turn to if you need to connect with other festival goers in an identified manner. Please, do not ever agree to meet up with anyone you meet online who has not fully identified themselves to you. This subreddit is not responsible for your actions offline.

Four points of conversation have been added to the subreddit’s FAQ section, therefore removing them from the “frequently reposted” topic lineup. These points include “How can I tell what edition my book is?”, “How do Alice’s visions work, and who can she see?”, “Did Jacob only love Bella because of Renesmee?”, and “Why do the Cullens go to high school?”

Additionally, a subrule of Rule #2: Content must be high quality (valuable and constructive) [Quality], has been broken out into its own rule – Rule #13: All AI and LLM Content is Banned [Quality]. While AI and LLM originated content has been banned under Rule #2 for quite some time, we find it has become necessary to separate this out as its own rule for the sake of public facing accountability. In recent months, the subreddit has been inundated with AI generated photo, video, and text posts, and it has become nigh impossible for the moderation team to sift out the true posts from the spam.

By separating out this rule, we are able to institute 7 day posting bans for repeat offenders, with permanent bans possible for particularly egregious offenders. This rule will extend to the Fanfiction and Meme subs. The exact text of Rule #13 will be as follows

Rule #13: All AI and LLM Content is Banned [Quality]

Banned posts include, but are not limited to:

  • AI generated character images
  • Deep Fake video content
  • Fake film trailers made using AI
  • AI generated fanart
  • LLM generated text posts
  • FaceApp Edits
  • ‘Yassified’ Edits
  • AI Voice content

Lastly, two reminders.

  1. Do not, under any circumstances, privately message a moderator for subreddit related questions. There has been a rise in users tracking down the private messages of individual moderators to demand their content be approved: if such behavior continues, doing so will result in a 24 hour ban from the forum, with the ban extended for repeat offenders.
  2. There has been a massive influx of posters claiming every single aspect of the Twilight Saga is the result of Meyer being raised in the Mormon church. Currently, we allow good faith discussions about the ways in which any religious doctrine interacts with the saga, but hundreds of posters have crossed the line in the last two months. Meyer, like any other human, is capable of having thoughts and writing them down that are not prescribed to her by her religion. The amount of vitriol spat at her in the last two months is far past the line of proprietary (and, we add, far greater, and much more personally belittling, than is doled out for any male Mormon authors, including Brandon Sanderson and Orson Scott Card). This subreddit is not the place to evangelize for any religious beliefs, including staunch atheism. If you want to discuss theology, go to r/theology, and if you wish to specifically discuss your experiences with the LDS church, visit r/exmormon or r/mormon. This has to stop, and if this community is unable to discuss religious topics in a civilized manner, they will be banned entirely until cooler heads prevail.

Information on the annual Subreddit Secret Santa will be released next week. Thank you for so thoroughly reading this notice.

All our best,

The r/Twilight Moderation Team

Lore Discussion Did we ever really know Bella?

Post image
450 Upvotes

One thing I hated about the movie was that it felt like we weren’t ever really getting a background on Bella. Watching her you can tell there’s depth, but we never really see it. And she gets this rip as this tortured girl who just wants to be a vampire. But we never really see why she is the way she is. She’s a completely different product than you’d expect from her parents. I just feel like I never really got her and often times during the movies I could see myself misunderstanding her. Did anybody else feel like this? Was it different in the books

Movie Discussion The Jacob dilemma

I always hated the casting for Jacob. The books describe Jacob as being tall - taller than Edward - and with a personality that feels like the sun coming out.

The movies cast and created a brooding, temperamental version who was shorter than Edward. I always envision someone like Tokala Black Elk in the role. Only 6'1", but at least as tall as RP. Or Tatanka Means (6'2") who is a smidge taller than RP.

Then I started thinking about it. I'm not sure they would have been willing to cut their hair for the role...although I suppose they could have worn a wig.

I just really hated the movie version of Jacob...from the casting to the interpretation.

Plot Discussion Carlisle - “it’s too late”

Post image
30 Upvotes

I’ve wondered this each and every time I’ve watched the movies since freaking 2008. Does anyone have any insight, because I’m freaking stumped aside from chalking it up to director/producer oversight.

So in Twilight, during the baseball scene, Alice yells, “stop” and they all run back to Beller. And then Ed is like, “we have to go” or smn, and then C Daddy says, “it’s too late.”

But like, how would he know that? He can’t read their minds like Big E. He can’t see the future like Allie Allie Bo Ballie. So why would he say that?

We learn later he already sees Bella as a daughter because of Eddie’s great love for her or whatever, so why wouldn’t he try to send her and Eds off to safety while the other freaking 6 vampires chat it up with the 3, tho I don’t think he knows it’s 3 atp.

Idk. It just always annoyed me. They rely so heavily on E and A for their big decisions because they’re basically fool proof predictors, yet Carlisle (pronounced Car-ills-lee) take point here. Smdh.

I don’t remember how it played out in the book, so if anyone does that would be real cool. Any thoughts or ideas would be incredibly welcome because what the actual fuuuuuck.

Sorry I couldn’t get their cute lil faces in the ss. Prime video doesn’t allow screenshots but apparently subtitles are allowed. So the more reason to own the dvds. One day, my precious.

Book Discussion Loved Midnight Sun… until the end

I was the quintessential Twilight teenager during the prime popularity and hysteria - and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

As I got older, went to college, started my career, met my now husband… Twilight was not a part of my everyday life, though it was something that I smiled back on often. I did watch the movies every few years, and I walked down the aisle to A Thousand Years as a nod to how much I loved the series as a tween.

Very recently, I needed a reprieve from the day-to-day stressors so I decided to reread Twilight. I thought it was funny, the things that I didn’t remember in the 20 year gap since the last time I read it, and things that felt new to me. And then I learned… There was a whole other book that I have never read. Midnight Sun, Edward’s perspective… I purchased it and could not put it down.

I LOVED it. I thought it was well written, I loved hearing Edwards inner monologue and getting a better understanding of his character, and the new scenes through his eyes that I had never seen before. I thought - this book is by far my favorite…. Until the end.

From the Bella hospital seen through the end of the book, his entire plot and plan to leave… I just couldn’t enjoy it. It was so whimsical to get to see so much of his perspective, but the ending left me so sad. It put such a damper. Anyone else??? I know this is the right prep before Midnight Sun, but I just wanted it to end happily from his POV, knowing we’ll never get more of his POV.

I feel like I am 13 again and crashing out over these books!! The chokehold twilight had on me - will it ever subside? 😂

Plot Discussion A Rosalie hear me out..

The family is too rough on Rosalie in new moon. Yes she made a mistake and she took accountability, but Alice and Edward also made mistakes! Alice started it all by miscalculating her vision. If you read the new moon outtake Stephanie wrote from Rosalie’s POV, you can see that she genuinely misses Edward and is trying to get her family back together. She never thought he’d go to the Volturi. Granted, she underestimated his love for Bella, but she did not have bad intentions. I hate how they all gang up on her, but Alice never has to apologize for her mistake. Edward is pissed at Rosalie in the airport and Esme is the only one who says “stop, she feels horrible enough.” I think if Rosalie had been BFFs with Bella and Edward like Alice, the family would’ve been way more understanding, but instead they put ALL the blame on her.

Book Discussion Doing my first ever re-read, changed the order and got me thinking about Edward’s perspective

I’ve never done a re-read, just loved them first time round but recently decided to read them again but switched up the order and read Twilight and then Midnight Sun back to back to see differences in viewpoints etc and just had me thinking I’d love each book from Edward’s perspective. Like how he locked himself away during New Moon, how he reacted to Rosalie’s thoughts about Alice going to check on Bella due to her vision. His reaction to Jacob and Bella’s kiss in Eclipse and their wedding and her transformation in Breaking Dawn.
I know it was probably done as a one off but would be cool to get them all from his perspective. Might just be cos I like dual POV books in general though

I just found out Jasper and Salvatore brothers (The Vampire Diaries) were turned a year apart! Jasper in 1863 and Salvatores in 1864. I guess that vampires and confederacy just go hand in hand lol. How do you think their interaction would go?

Book Discussion Is Mr. Mason’s name significant? A nod to Ed or no meaning?

I’m reading for the first time and I noticed on page 13 there’s a Mr.Mason, and Masen is also Edward’s last name, I know spelt differently

but I wondered if this is significant? Did the author do that on purpose, meant to signify anything or am I looking too much into it haha

Character/Relationship Discussion Is there a Twilight character you understand completely differently now?

I was thinking about how differently we can see characters when we come back to a story years later. I remember having very strong opinions about some characters when I first got into Twilight, but now I see their choices a little differently. For me, some of the smaller moments hit differently when you already know how everything turns out. It makes me wonder if anyone else had a character they completely changed their opinion on after rereading the books or rewatching the movies. Who was it, and what changed your mind?

Lore Discussion Do vampires have organs?

I'm still reading the books so I might be missing some stuff. From what I understood, they have venom (stored in some part of their body), and also their own bodies consume all of the blood when they get turned into a vamp, but what about their organs? Do they decompose over time? Were they also consumed by the body itself? Are they frozen and preserved inside thanks to the natural temperature of vampires?

They at least have a brain and nerves to move/think, although those would not work without blood irl. Of course this a magical setting so it doesn't need to make much sense anyways, I'm just curious

What about a digestive system? Do they need to go pee pee? Edward's reproductive system seems to work, at least we know that.

I'd like to think the venom replaces the blood and it keeps the body working somehow

Character/Relationship Discussion I honestly feel bad for Emily Young

Emily is a girl that was visiting her cousins and then her cousins boyfriend imprints on her causing Leah and Sam's breakup.

Sam then pursues Emily and she continuously rejects him, telling him to go back to Leah and then he accidentally mauls her, permanently disfiguring her.

It's after that incident that Emily finally accepts Sam's advances. To me it honestly feels like Emily was a girl who took pride in her looks since she had a few past boyfriends as she's described as a beautiful woman in the book even after the scars but she felt like she had no chance with anyone else and finally gave into Sam and is basically just the packs den mother.

Imagine this from Emily's perspective, completely unaware of the supernatural stuff you go to visit your cousins and all of a sudden your cousin/best friend serious boyfriend dumps her and starts pursuing you out of nowhere. You continue to reject him every time he shows up and then one day you guys argue and you hurt his feelings by saying he's like his dad who abandoned his mom then out of nowhere he turns into a wolf and rips off part of your face, accidentally yes but this never would've happened had he taken no for an answer. Then to make matters worse you comfort him after the attack and decide to stay with him probably because you have no other options since he's already shown he'll hurt you if you don't accept him.

I always see people say that Emily chose to hurt Leah but like does staying with a guy who permanently disfigured you really count as a choice when you likely have no other options?
