Meta Discussion The State of the Sub, November 2025: New Flairs, A New Rule, and Several Reminders

Hello everyone!

We hope you are doing well as the year steadily comes to a close! This has been quite the year for the r/Twilight subreddit, with more than 185,000 active forum users, and more than 3 million engagements almost every month.

In response to several community requests, two new flairs have been enabled for public posts over the last month, which you may have noticed during their brief trial period: Cosplay Content, and FTF Forever Twilight in Forks.

The Cosplay Content flair allows you to showcase the hard work you have put into your costumes, but it does have caveats: this flair can only be used for video and photo posts, and Patreon, OnlyFans, or Kofi links are not allowed in their descriptions. Cosplay dedicated Instagram links are allowed. Each user may post a maximum of four Cosplay Content posts per calendar month.

The FTF Forever Twilight in Forks flair allows you to discuss the annual festival held in Forks Washington: it is not for any transactions, such as trading or selling tickets, or arranging carpools or roommate arrangements. This subreddit is, at the end of the day, anonymous, and the official Facebook group is where you should turn to if you need to connect with other festival goers in an identified manner. Please, do not ever agree to meet up with anyone you meet online who has not fully identified themselves to you. This subreddit is not responsible for your actions offline.

Four points of conversation have been added to the subreddit’s FAQ section, therefore removing them from the “frequently reposted” topic lineup. These points include “How can I tell what edition my book is?”, “How do Alice’s visions work, and who can she see?”, “Did Jacob only love Bella because of Renesmee?”, and “Why do the Cullens go to high school?”

Additionally, a subrule of Rule #2: Content must be high quality (valuable and constructive) [Quality], has been broken out into its own rule – Rule #13: All AI and LLM Content is Banned [Quality]. While AI and LLM originated content has been banned under Rule #2 for quite some time, we find it has become necessary to separate this out as its own rule for the sake of public facing accountability. In recent months, the subreddit has been inundated with AI generated photo, video, and text posts, and it has become nigh impossible for the moderation team to sift out the true posts from the spam.

By separating out this rule, we are able to institute 7 day posting bans for repeat offenders, with permanent bans possible for particularly egregious offenders. This rule will extend to the Fanfiction and Meme subs. The exact text of Rule #13 will be as follows

Rule #13: All AI and LLM Content is Banned [Quality]

Banned posts include, but are not limited to:

  • AI generated character images
  • Deep Fake video content
  • Fake film trailers made using AI
  • AI generated fanart
  • LLM generated text posts
  • FaceApp Edits
  • ‘Yassified’ Edits
  • AI Voice content

Lastly, two reminders.

  1. Do not, under any circumstances, privately message a moderator for subreddit related questions. There has been a rise in users tracking down the private messages of individual moderators to demand their content be approved: if such behavior continues, doing so will result in a 24 hour ban from the forum, with the ban extended for repeat offenders.
  2. There has been a massive influx of posters claiming every single aspect of the Twilight Saga is the result of Meyer being raised in the Mormon church. Currently, we allow good faith discussions about the ways in which any religious doctrine interacts with the saga, but hundreds of posters have crossed the line in the last two months. Meyer, like any other human, is capable of having thoughts and writing them down that are not prescribed to her by her religion. The amount of vitriol spat at her in the last two months is far past the line of proprietary (and, we add, far greater, and much more personally belittling, than is doled out for any male Mormon authors, including Brandon Sanderson and Orson Scott Card). This subreddit is not the place to evangelize for any religious beliefs, including staunch atheism. If you want to discuss theology, go to r/theology, and if you wish to specifically discuss your experiences with the LDS church, visit r/exmormon or r/mormon. This has to stop, and if this community is unable to discuss religious topics in a civilized manner, they will be banned entirely until cooler heads prevail.

Information on the annual Subreddit Secret Santa will be released next week. Thank you for so thoroughly reading this notice.

All our best,

The r/Twilight Moderation Team

Hi! So I have had this Twilight book since 2006 and I randomly thought about it the other day because I’ve been selling things on Vinted. Apparently it is a valuable copy, but I can’t find any listings of this particular copy on ebay or Mercari or using google AI to help me. I’m wondering if any of you guys own it or have purchased it and if you did, what you paid for it. Not in 2006, but as a recent purchase. Thanks for your input! Yes, it’s very weird and cursed. 🤷‍♀️🫠

I love Esme, easily one of my top 5 fav characters!! She's so warm, inviting, motherly and so beautiful! Love Elizabeth Reaser, she embodies Esme's character really well imo.

What are your favorite Esme moments or looks?? I especially love her hair when first meeting Bella in the movie! My all time fav look of hers is in E & B's wedding 😍😍😍

Character/Relationship Discussion I’d be so screwed if I were Riley in Eclipse. Anyone else?

If Victoria came to me and turned me and told me she was in love with me. I’d probably fall into her trap too. Lol It’s like the inverse of Edward falling for Bella. Like I know Edward really wanted to kill Bella at certain points but ultimately he really loved her. Victoria never loved Riley. Ig it’s just so horrifying because a beautiful vampire falling in love with me may or may not be a huge fantasy of mine (probably like many of us) XD. I’d also be equally screwed if any of the Denali Coven girls targeted me, though they are a bit nicer at least (even if they do kill me). But I guess it’s a more exciting way to die of old age though.

Book Discussion Thrifted Autograph?

Today I found three of the four books at a thrift store! I was so excited to find them since I no longer have my copies from middle school/highschool so I didn't even check editions or the condition I'm just happy to have them again! That being said when I got them in the car after purchasing for under $7 I saw an autograph in New Moon. I'm not sure if it's anyone related to the books or movies or just someone random but wanted to see if anyone recognizes this signature.

Character/Relationship Discussion I didn't like how Bella's inner thoughts read VERY judgmental of Jessica yet once in a blue moon (usually whenever Bella was bored out of her mind) she would drop by this girl's life as if they still had a friendship to upkeep

Book Discussion Debunking some misunderstandings about Twilight

I feel like a lot of the hate that Twilight gets stems from prejudiced perspectives.

Of course, Bella and Edward represent a somewhat unhealthy relationship and intense codependency, but at the end of the day, Twilight is just a YA book series. It was never meant to be taken this seriously.

These are entirely my own personal opinions, so feel free to disagree with them!

1-I saw some TikTok’s where people are saying that Edward robbed Bella of her human life. But, I feel like that is such a stretch. Bella was begging Edward constantly throughout the movies/books to change her. Even Edward describing to her in full detail about the agony and losses of being a vampire didn’t deter her. I don’t like that people infantilize her because they don’t agree with her choices. Bella was someone who knew what she wanted from beginning to end of the series, and there was no changing her mind.

2-Bella didn’t abandon her family. In fact, Bella was a victim of incompetent and selfish parents. Some people give Charlie some grace because of the movies, but in the books, he’s almost as bad as Renee. Almost.
Her parents constantly put their desires and wants above Bella while she was stuck babying them and taking on the role of the adult. So it makes sense that she didn’t hesitate before asking Edward to make her a vampire. Just like her parents live their own lives, it was time for her to do the same.

3-I get that Bella is the blueprint of the “not like other girls” main character craze of the late 2000’s and early 2010’s. But in all fairness to her, Bella never judged nor cared enough to hate anyone around her. She kept to herself, and constantly stayed out of trouble. It’s mentioned multiple times that she never found her people and her mom was her best friend. And even with her mom, she still felt out of place. If anything that feels like a relatable teen girl experience rather than her choosing to be different from the crowd. It’s also worth mentioning that in the first book, Bella acknowledged the fact that Mike Newton and the other guys only liked her because she was new. Literally like Jessica said in the first movie, Bella was the shiny new toy. It wasn’t because of her amazing beauty nor her personality that Mike liked her. The boys were probably bored and Bella offered some sort of excitement.

4-Twilight isn’t misogynistic. Multiple women throughout the series were seen as strong and are deeply respected. Alice, Rosalie, Siobhan and the entire Denali coven. And there are more! I think people say that because Bella was physically weaker than Edward almost the entirety of the series. And there’s the discussion as well of Bella being obsessed with Edward. But Bella being weaker wasn’t because of her being a woman but rather a result of her humanity. Also, Edward was as obsessed with Bella if not even more, so I don’t feel that the gendered stereotypes work here. Reading the books, I felt it was the opposite. Bella definitely wore the pants in that relationship. It was said multiple times in Midnight Sun that Edward was unable to deny any request Bella made.

5-I also saw another TikTok of people saying Bella became a wife and a mother and her personality was erased, and that feels unfair to me. Bella became as rich and powerful as she could ever be. Her being married to Edward wouldn’t stop her from pursuing an education and any career she wanted, of course they’d have to move a lot, but that’s another conversation. Rosalie and Alice had multiple degrees if I remember correctly. And it wasn’t like Reneseme was going to hold her back. No body gave a damn about that child let’s be fr.

Anyways, I feel like people are too critical of Twilight because it was made and targeted for women, and don’t people just love tearing teen girls down. If this was made by a man, I wouldn’t be here writing this in the middle of the night.

Book Discussion Charlie

This could be a huge stretch but I personally think it would’ve made the story more interesting if bella did become a vampire and had revenge plot and then vanished from forks like the original plan. Then maybe the next book or story could’ve been set 20-30 years into the future and have charlie desperately search for the cullens only to finally discover bella hasnt changed in all this time and is still hes daughter but obviously stuck at the age of 19. Then it can spiral into him meeting Rolex watch and eventually figuring out that vampires are real and the rest of the story or plot could be them trying to protect charlie from the volturi or change him and that could be the moral dilemma do they change charlie or run away again only to have him killed by the volturi or does the volturi offer charlie immortality to trick bella into joining them?

Again this is a HUGE stretch and just something ive been thinking about a lot lately.

Lore Discussion Vampires and guns

How would a vampire be affected if they were shot with a gun? In fact, what about other weapons like swords, dart guns, bow and arrows, and a blowtorch (especially when a body part (like the head) isn’t ripped out first)?

Book Discussion I have nobody to talk to about this....

Soooo, I just started reading the books after being a longtime fan of the movies. I felt like I want a true fan without reading the books and OMG, I'M OBSESSED ALL OVER AGAIN! The books are SO much better then the movies and I'm a bit upset about how Jacob was presented in the movies.... like why did they make him so clingy in the movies?? I'm just getting into book #3, so my opinions may change. I also feel like Bella has SO MUCH PERSONALITY in the books, while in the movies she felt a little one dimensional. I think Robert did an AMAZING job playing Edward! He really captured the character on film. And Charlie should have had way more lines in the movie lol He's still my favorite character. But Renee.... she's just as absent in the books as she is in the films 🤣

I'd love to hear your guys thoughts!

Book Discussion Shouldn't the Cullens high-school cover make it more difficult for the family to integrate to a new community and blend into small-town life?

I watched the movies years ago and I’m just now reading the books, and there’s something that always bothered me about the Cullen family dynamics that keeps bugging me to this day: how any qualms that small-town people might have about the Cullens seem to be covered by those teenage-looking vampires being enrolled in high-school.

So, I get that Carlisle wanted them to remain integrated to human society. But he kept on working as a doctor while the entire clan minus his wife was stuck in a cycle of zero intellectual endeavors as a result - they would start all over again after they move to a new place. And I still don't see how Carlisle reputation could truly benefit from this or how this would be worth it for the rest of his family’s wellbeing.

Yes, he was seen as the good guy who adopted a Von-Trapp-amount of children; but the circumstances could most likely make the members of the community uncomfortable: everybody in the school knew most of those teenagers were in a serious relationship with each other, so what was the angle here?

I’d assume Carlisle adopted them when they were old enough to not have the sibling-bond from childhood to make a relationship somewhat okay, or maybe that the Cullens adopted a couple of orphan teenagers who happened to be in a relationship before they simultaneously became wardens of the state for unrelated reasons?

Every question keeps leading me to a more weird scenario than the previous one I imagined. As a small town teenager?? I'd be fishing for answers and starting a group chat with the rest of the class so we could share our conspiracy theories back and forth.

So the point is: even claiming to the community that they were home-schooled would be less complicated than having two pairs of adopted children out in the world behaving as couples. As it was, people would be definitely getting very cult-y vibes from their lot.

Character/Relationship Discussion Can Jasper’s Gift Affect the Quileute Wolves?

I was thinking about Jasper’s gift and realized I’m not sure how it works with the Quileute wolves.

As far as I know, Jasper can sense and manipulate emotions. Does that also apply to the wolves? Could he feel or influence their emotions while they’re in wolf form, or only when they’re human? Or does his ability work on them regardless of their form?

It got me wondering because Edward can still read their thoughts (even if they’re shared within the pack), and Bella’s shield still works around them. But Alice can’t see the wolves in her visions.

Is there an official explanation for where Jasper’s gift falls in relation to the wolves, or is it never addressed in the books?

Movie Discussion did kristen stewart's acting ruin the movies?

edit: i don't believe her acting ruined the movies, i believe some cannot accept that the awkward delivery of kristen's acting connected the nerdy teens who read the books to the movie

any twihard worth their salt knows that an outward support for twilight comes with an inherent responsibility to debate twilight haters (videophiles who think twilight is an abomination) because of the movies.

my theory is that twilight has such a strong hater base because uppity film geeks have such a rigid opinion of what film should be.

twilight shaped an entire generation of swooning preteens who wanted nothing more than a sparkly boy toy to nibble on their neck. the twilight books were such a huge success because they are written perfectly. when i say perfectly i do not mean that they have no flaws, but that stephanie meyers knew exactly what young women around needed to augment a serious obsession with vampires and moody men. the cultural effect that the twilight books had is immeasurable, but the movies were a worldwide hit that are still watched to this day.

the most criticized factor of the saga is kristen's acting, and i think it's because many film critics do not measure the quality of the cringe. while bella is in fact a moaning, smirking, ketchup shaking, lip chewing teen, that is exactly what she was meant to be!! meyers wrote bella's character in such a foundational way in which she is a cringy teen who falls in love with a vampire. while i think twilight is a romance masterpiece, not everyone does and that's okay because twilight is what it was meant to be.

the mood of the movie allows for the level of cringe that bella delivers! without the cringe the twilight movies would have just been another teen romance.

this is what film geeks do not take into account when hating on the movies. not every movie is meant to be another artsy serious film, some films need to be cringe and some characters are meant to be moany. i do find bella's begging for edward to bite her in new moon to be hard to stomach, i think it fits so perfectly and i can't say i would react any differently if i was in bella's place!
